Cammed 4.7 Ram Idle comparison

This is an Idle comparison between stock and 212x cams idle on my 4.7 Ram. I got these back in 2018 from a seller on ebay. The cams are 212x regrinds of H.O. cores done by CraneCams back in 2016, Unfortunately Cranecams is no longer doing regrinds for the 4.7L. I've looked at quite a few options for my 4.7 Dakota and ive pretty much decided that swapping almost any other engine is way more cost effective and a much higher limit than this dog of an engine. It's a manual trans so i have virtually now limit lol.

Funny part is that you’d get more out of a properly built 4.7 than you’d expect given how strong the bottom end is.

I probably do, it will sound the same though since I'm still running the same exhaust. The difference between the stock cams and 212 cams is already pretty subtle.

Any chance you would sell the cams for cash + my stock cams or do you have a cam spec sheet so I can get a custom ground cam

I won't be selling them anytime soon but I'll gladly send you the spec sheet. I also came across a spec sheet for 224/224 regrinds a while back I can send you that one too. Just let me know who does your regrinds because I've been wanting to upgrade to 224s. Whats your email?

I have a 2008 4.7 ram where could I find a performance cam, I don’t know much about them but I like the how it sounds lol

Im not aware of anyone big companies that still do regrinds for the 4.7s but I would call around to local performance shops and machine shops and see if they know of any companies that are willing to do some Performance cam regrinds for you. The lopey and choppy idle is caused by valve over lap where your intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time. Typically camshafts with higher durations will have more overlap which will give a more aggressive idle. If I remember right the most duration you can get from regrinding 4.7 H/O camshafts 224° intake and 224° exhaust. I personally haven't heard of anyone regrinding the 2008+ camshafts so I can't say how much you can get out of those or if there is even enough material to regind in the first place. Best of luck!

They are regrinds from CraneCams that I got second hand on Ebay 5 years ago or so, I've heard there are still companies that will do regrinds but they are few and far between nowadays, I would get on the 4.7 facebook page and see if anyone has gotten any done lately

Crower grimds them and so does american cam. Theyre both in California.

I would get a set of 08 cams and get them regroumd. Crower wanted 400$ a cam and American was $250 for the set

🤣totally agree, If you are trying to get ahold of crane cams I believe they were bought out by comp cams a couple years ago
