I'm going to be doing the swap over the weekend. This is my 2nd Ram. My first was an 04 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 that I put 210K miles on then traded it in on this one.

@@georgecastro6596 sure. Low miles? Here are the things I've dealt with. Upper A-arms Ball joints Ignition switch Replaced rear end, bearing went bad and tore up the differential. Our family has an 08 (240K), 13 (115K) , and now a 19 Ram 1500. Bought each one new. We try to get 250K from a truck. The 08 and 13 have the 8-speed transmission. We knew about the upper and tie rod ends, so we kept the standard tires/wheel sizes and no lift. 08 had a 4WD issue this past winter, but turned out to be a relay. 13 has had no mechanical issues, but I am concerned about the manifold bolts on this one. Seat bolster issues occur in all trucks I have had. We started using some tough seat covers to protect them...right when we buy the vehicle. I also had a 96 Dodge 1500 I got new with the 360. We got 250K out of that one. Track bars replaced at 180K. A buddy needed it, so sold it to him. He took it to 350K. Rumor has it some high school kid is still driving it.

Thankfully he purchased an extended warranty plan when he bought the truck new. It covered up to 100,000 miles. He also has a few recalls for some of the safety systems. He had mentioned that his seatbelt may or may not hold you in an accident and there is a possibility that the airbags could kill you if they deploy. If you have not had that checked out on your truck, I would suggest taking it to a dealer and have them look it over.

An older man showed me his red cloth seats on his older chevy once..was amazed how they kept like new. His secret was using a towel. And since new ive used a towel on my 14 Ram with just 100k miles and yes, still like new.even on my 13 Longhorn leather seats. Got it with 75k and a lil discoloration on the leather. Now with over 200k and still exactly like the first day i got it.just my two cents

I had a 1990 Volvo 760 turbo and a 98 S60 Volvo. Both had leather. I NEVER put armor-all on the leather but with every wash and vacuum and armor-all day (which was usually about every two weeks) put leather conditioner on everything leather. Both car's leather lasted forever until I sold them.

Having all the same problems with my 2016 1500. Exhaust manifold bolts lasted 80k miles. Snapped off 2 on the driver's side. Replaced them with "upgraded" bolts. Will so long they last. Starting to get a rattle in my front end at 85k miles, so have to chase that down. The seat bolster has been a problem in Dodge trucks for years. My 2003 3500 with cloth seats and they failed at 100k miles. Replaced the seat cushion and wrapped the seat frame with thin foam and duct tape. That seemed to help for the next 100k miles.

Those are the only two complaints and that's not even bad. I have 35s on her now for the past 15k miles and after turning off MDS with my programmer I am now getting around 16 mpg. Great video. I like the honesty. My original tires were gone at 51,000. I am about to change my second set at 126,000. Michelins. The only other issue I have had to date is the black tape as you describe. This is my second Ram and I wont own anything else. I ran my 05 to 232,500 and traded it off in 2014 for a 2013. Not trying to be contrary or anything, but...Things wear out depending on driving habits and such. I too had a 2009 and now drive a 2014, however I have had zero issues that you have. My five issues have been(in no particular order) fuel pump, wheel bearings, rust at the front panels of driver door(at less than 60 grand on both 2009 and 2014) leaking sunroofs, and by pass coolant valve. I love Dodge but they all have different issues.

I have a 2012 Ram 1500 4x4 SLT also in silver. The black tape on the doors on mine is also coming off and I plan to remove it soon. I just painted my rockers below the body line with rustoleum truck bed lining because I had rust on the right rear quarter panel that I got rid of. Added Ion Alloy 141 black wheels last summer. Ball joints still feel good tho but I didn't put bigger tires on it. The ion alloys are about 2 inches wider than the stock wheels but I'm running LT265/75R17 General Grabber ATXs. Got a set of black led taillights coming next weekend and will probably be upgrading the headlights to the newer black ones that the Rams have. My truck is at about 170k now. I think I got a wheel bearing going out front left side tho.

I put almost 250,000 miles on a 2009. A great many of those miles were offroad and on poorly maintained forest roads. I did not have a single front end component wear out! I never even had to change the shocks, lol. It was an amazing truck. I had to change the fan clutch at 200,000 miles, a/c compressor around the same time, and water pump went out at 240,000 miles. Fast forward to now, I have a 2019 and at 36,000 miles the stock Toyo At II's were worn and replaced. It is much lower in the front than my 2009 so installed some Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks to lift up the front a bit. In doing so discovered one of the front shocks was leaking and a rear that seemed to not be holding any pressure.

Bought my 2015 Ram 2500 on 6/2015 in Long Beach Ca.. I had to replace the upper/lower ball joints 10/2016 at just over 36000 miles. The Firestones Transforce from the factory wore out fast, maybe from the rotation with bad ball joints. Not sure. I called the dealer to let them know about the ball joints & also I had an intermittent vibration in the rear of the truck that no one could figure out. Truck was all stock. I have literally baby'd this truck because I'm an older man and I stay on the black top 99.5% of the time. The only thing I had pulled with it was a 2000# utility pipe trailer maybe 6 times. The Dealer Warranty guy told me in a snotty way "well you must've been rough on it to wear out the ball joints that fast" He also told me that they probably wouldn't cover the ball joints even if truck was still below the warranty mileage. Wow! $50,000+ purchase! That kind of pissed me off and I told him that this will be the last damn truck I buy from them. I bought 4 new stock 18" Michelin Defenders and still had the vibration. I bought a 2" leveling kit w/ Bilstein 5100's .....now the vibration is gone. Other than that, now at 74000 miles the tires still have plenty of tread and I do love the truck. No other problems at all.

Hey Michael you should take it to the Orange Coast RAM dealer. They seemed way better when I dropped into that dealership and had some warranty work done. Give it a try and let me know!

The reason I bought my truck in Long Beach was that I was visiting an in-law. I live in AZ. I was driving around looking at the Silverado's at Chevy dealerships as I always wanted one. Chevrolet wouldn't deal with me very good so I left. Went to a Dodge dealer and they did. My trucks already way past the mileage now for waranty work. But like I say I've had zero problems since then. I tried out a Silverado last year and after driving my Ram 2500 I just didn't like the Chevy Silverado but jmo. I thought it was smaller & not as much room and power wise I liked my Cummins better.

I've always kept up maintenance on every truck I've owned which has been more than several over my lifetime and I never had a ball joint go out at that low of mileage. The wheel bearings on mine were fine just the ball joints. I replaced the ball joints with Moog/Mopar that seem to be doing great. Have you seen problems with wheel bearings at low mileage on Rams?
