Hey Karl, just finished re-watching all the TJN videos again. Do you have footage of the rest of the trip(s)? Would you ever continue the video series? Either way, I've really enjoyed all your videos, so thanks!

Wow! I can't believe you have your own fishing rod and catch your won fish. Plus, you forage for berries too! So impressive. Great video and document of your journey!

Thanks for watching the videos! just sharing the experience to get more people out there!

That must have been quite the experience getting those gifts from the land! I'll be bringing a rod on all my future bikepacking trips for sure, one fish would be worth all the "grams" in the world!
@KarlKroll3 жыл бұрын
I agree, sometimes it isn't about saving weight and flying but about getting in closer contact with the land and streams you are traveling through!

@@KarlKroll exactly! That's why I like to travel by bike, it's just fast enough to cover ground, but not too fast.

Hi Karl, I'm trying to understand the route you took from end of Carretera Austral into Argentina. I understand you went East to Cochamo (instead of taking the ferry and cycle to Puerto Montt). What route did you took from Cochamo in order to get to the Cardenal Samore pass? The highway seems to continue to Osorno but it seems quite a detour.
@KarlKroll3 жыл бұрын
I went along some smaller roads, I believe camping along Lago Rupanco before reaching Entre Lagos and heading up towards Paso Cardenal Samore.

That giant list of gear and you didn't mention what fishing pole you use or which reel failed on you ? I want to know what you use for bait down there ? I'm from north east US but figuring fish don't know where they live and eat whatever is local for them, so what is it. Great video (they seem to be getting better as you go) keep it up and have fun.

lol, Glad you enjoy the videos! Trout everywhere like the same stuff and I usually use spinners for a spinning rod/reel. I couldn't find my exact rod/reel combo but it is nothing special. My reel is actually something cheap from a tiny gift shop in Bariloche Argentina. Rod only - amzn.to/3oqrks9 or rod + Reel amzn.to/3yjEdbW would be good options. The thing is, you will eventually break a reel or rod while bikepacking so to reduce the pain I like to keep it inexpensive. Cheers!

Just a suggestion Karl. You can pack some highly nutritious food like peanut, peanut butter, beans, lentils. A lot protein and energy for the weight. Better than escargots ;D
@KarlKroll3 жыл бұрын
haha, I do pack all those when I can! No comment on the escargot once is enough🤣

I often call my fishing pole my entertainment item when I am bikepacking, anyone else out there have a unique item they bring for entertainment when on the road?
