Pretty cool setup. Ya I have shock forks and was dreading tossing them just to get better water bottle/bag space. Easy solution with tape, kind of ruins the look of the bike, but after 1000s of miles that should be the least of worries. Great video.

Hey Karl, just finished re-watching all the TJN videos again. Do you have footage of the rest of the trip(s)? Would you ever continue the video series? Either way, I've really enjoyed all your videos, so thanks!

For trips like these, it would be nice to bring some candy etc from your own country to give to kids like the little ones ye met here. Imagine what reaction they'd have and how they'd likely always remember the cyclist who gave them sweets

I found that the phone sized solar chargers are crap. I don't think it would work on your lighter weight setup but I use the bigblue 28W foldable panel across my back rack/panniers when riding & outside my tent on days off. It has been working great for charging my battery pack which I use to charge my lights & phone. I have the same Nitrider light & Copper Spur tent(1p) as you. I used to use a Triangia alcohol stove but switched to the MSR Dragonfly. You've got a nice setup.

Simple is good. Take what you need and leave the rest at home. As of 2022 all auto fuel in the world is now lead free and usable in camp stoves. Your waterproof orange bag makes a real good washing machine. An alternative to a suspension fork is to run your heavy-duty touring tires softer.

I'm just curious how you deal with all those bags and bicycle when you want to travel via airplane.
@KarlKroll Жыл бұрын
The bike gets taken apart and put in a box, bags become my luggage with extras going in with the bike. Always interesting but generally works out.

@@KarlKroll im guessing small toolset and some bike mechanics skills are a must. You can buy box on airport or just some city shops? Or you have your own?

This video gave me so much needed fresh air. l'm very sad l had to move to DC (wife's job) and my beloved Scandinavian Arctic Circle regions are so far away now (flying to Buffin Island to meet similar conditions is quite expensive). l can see BWCA may be an alternative playground (not even close to be as harsh, but it'll do alright for the time being). Thanks for sharing!

Hey Karl I am thinking about doing the tour decide this summer and I was wondering about the water situation I was thing of carrying two letters of water is this not enough?
@KarlKroll2 жыл бұрын
Hey Tucker, In my experience there is water available a couple times per day for the majority of the GDMBR. The great basin and New Mexico are the two outliers. I think best to join some Facebook groups for the route and get up to date information for those sections for when you ride. I think I carried ~2.5 L for the majority and then a little bit extra for the dry sections.

Hi Karl, I Loved your bikepacking trip; however, you cannot make fire there. It is strictly forbidden. In 2011, an Israeli tourist burned about 17.000 hectares in the C.A., causing irreparable damage to wildlife.
