I used sterno for over 30 years and it's still a good choice sometimes. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome! Denatured alcohol with carbon felt would work too. Carbon felt speeds up burn time a little bit. :)

Great video. Cool idea. Much faster than using a Sterno can

I use the UST fuel tablets and I don't think they stink. But the black residue is annoying. But it's my go to. I do like how you have your Sterno setup

Those fuels tabs are so convenient that it is hard to argue against... agree that the residue is annoying, but man they do work well.

I'm famous now! Just stumbled onto this. Thanks for the acknowledgement. 😏 Have you ever tried the sterno-type fuel cans they sell in Dollar Tree?

Absolutely great 👍topic and video! I have just found your videos and watching 👀the past ones too. I was wondering about the the size of the sucrets tin you are using and burn 🔥times. So if you don't mind repeating the information, how much does the tin hold and how long does that burn until runout? Thanks again for everything!😎
@RestlessWonderer
@RestlessWonderer 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The tin will burn for 50 minutes when completely full. I find this to be very convenient for overnighters/short trips, but may not be practical for long multi-day trips.

Fantastic! It was difficult to be sure of the time, as I was using closed captioning on the video and it was stating fifteen minutes of total burn time, but it seems like you described it as FIFTY. HEy, technology isn't perfect, yet! I am putting together the same set up for day hiking

if you're hearing you canister stove then you have it on too high. Sterno makes for a great tent heater also.

I use the can that is the “stove” to cookie cut a depression in the soil, set the can 1 inch deep for stability. The lower intake holes are =>an inch up the can, there is one 1 inch hole at the top. I drop the sterno in then insert 2 cross wires ½ inch below top to hold pot or grill made of the cans top with lots of holes. READY TO LIGHT. To get fire closer to pot I toss some soil in under sterno can. 🤠

I have a Sterno style stove and it worked well in very cold temperatures (10 deg. F) . When trying to relight it the next day there was what looked like a film on top from when the jell cooled down. It would not light, so I just stirred the jell to break up the film and it lite right up again.

Thank you for the info... I just used my setup last weekend in about that same temp and it just took a little longer to boil the water. Also, I had to hold the lighter on the Sterno for a little bit to heat it up before it would light.

You have to factor in wind in your burn times...

I have not thought about that... also I have found that the "green stuff" does not burn as well as the purple.

Party City sell a flat of 12 cans of chaffing fuel for about $5 to $7 dollars in either red or green labels. Red burns hotter but not as environmentally safe as green which burns lower. GOD Bless you and your families
