When I am out on overnight, or multi day adventures, I enjoy cooking and eating a nice Cowboy RIbeye steak after a long hike to reach my camp. I season my steak, and then wrap it in three to four layers of aluminum foil, and then place it in a plastic freezer bag, and put in the freezer until I am ready to leave. Alternately you could just season and place in only a freezer bag, and then the day you are leaving, wrap in foil, and place the steak back in the freezer bag, so there is no leakage when transporting the steak in your backpack. I sometimes also cut some raw onion, and a little garlic, and a little butter, and place it on the steak before freezing, and wrapping. After hiking for six to eight hours the steak is thawed out, and ready to cook. I never use a pan, and just place the steak that is wrapped in aluminum foil right on the grill over the fire, and let it cook for around 30 to 40 minutes, turning every five minutes or so. The foil layers prevent the steak from burning, and all the juices are retained inside the foil. I also wrap up some mushrooms, peppers, and sliced potatoes, and sometimes Kale and Spinach in separate foil packages, and cook the same way, but only for about 15 to 30 minutes or so. All the food comes out of the foil piping hot, and delicious, and you can use the foil as a plate, or just bring a plate of some kind, or simply layout a fresh piece of foil to put all the food on. All the used foil goes back into the plastic freezer bag and is packed out, or placed in a garbage can if available. It's also mice to be a little comfortable when eating your steak. I have to say you looked seriously uncomfortable while kneeling and eating. I know that I would not be comfortable doing that, unless absolutely necessary. Some primitive campgrounds in the parks, forests, or natural recreational areas may have a wooden picnic table which is great. If not then a great lightweight chair and a plate suffice. I was able to pick up the Helinox Chair One Large last year for half price last year. It comes in at about 2 pounds, and supports 320 pounds. It folds up in a carry bag,, and fits neatly in my pack. I find it great to stop and take a break in a shady wilderness area, while kicking back in my chair, that sets up in a minute. Much better than sitting on logs and rocks, or kneeling! LOL! Good luck!

If it's a "bushcraft" steak, shouldn't it be how to cook a steak in the "bush"? 😉
