Love watching this. I recently lost my partner to the dreaded "C" and I am going to give up work, buy a van and head for the sun wherever that is.....not sure if they get sun in Scotland but I will be certainly look for it. Honestly, live life to the full, do all the things you dream of and do them whilst you have good health. As I keep getting told "You Cant Buy Time"" and how true that is.

Sorry for your loss 💔 Yes, you are right, time waits for none of us, it's important that we live our dreams, not wait for them to happen. Enjoy the project of making the van suit you and enjoy the road, perhaps we'll meet parked up in the middle of nowhere some time and exchange traveling tales.

Paul, make sure you use rust primer and silicone to seal around every screw you drill through the floor bed.. Looks great so far, you 2 are a joy to watch👍 And I share your carpentry ethos.. Measure once, then cut till it fits.

Ex UK, from Barnsley/Sheffield areas...now living in Thailand for the last 13 years. I have to say I'm loving the outdoor videos of yourself, your good lady wife and other camping buddies I've also subscribed to. It really is great to see some of the places I've hiked before and often camped with my beloved old Springer. Keep up the good work and I'll keep checking the updates on your new found skills as a van converter. Love to you both.

Ah now Paul, you know this cosy, comfy van will spell doom for the poor auld soon to be neglected tents? I don't camp in a tent nearly as often as I used to now that I have the comfort of a vintage hymer. My partner was never one for camping so now I find I really have to make quite the effort to make myself go camping, I'm enjoying the comfort of a warm camper in remote locations during the winter, apart from lockdowns of course. Good luck with the converting 👍

Don't copy EXACTLY though, because he's missing on checking he's not about to drill through a pipe or into a loom, and he's not sorting out the fresh metal holes with something to keep rust away. Heavy undercoat works, or silastic, silicone, paint etc.. Anything really to cover bare metal.

Considering I do carpentry for a living, and have done for a little short of 40 years, I have a black sense of humour watching others do the same. I am sure with a plethora of KZbin videos to scan and the cups of tea flowing you are both going to get there and you will know exactly what has been done to the van and that it’s done correctly. That alone has got to be worth the effort. If I were doing the same as you guys I wouldn’t even vaguely consider buying one already done. It’s not just the saving of money it’s the knowing for certain that it’s done right. I am interested in the choices you make for the fit out as there are some great designs doing the rounds on KZbin that you can pick and chose from and add to as well. Best of luck to you both.

Paul, get yourself an account at your local timber merchant. They are often 30% cheaper than the high street retailers. I'm sure a local carpenter can recommend one. Wickes cladding (9mm) is the cheapest I could find but on the whole you pay more in the big stores.

Others have said about treating with rust primer. Otherwise, great job so far and in line with own ideas for visiting son and his family in North Wales, small enough to park on our South London driveway. And carry tools to help with his and our daughter's diy. Glues like what you used are good for sticking those roof battens to metal with some flex to absorb vibrations. Could have managed without screws. The micro splinters from pressure treated roof battens are nasty and difficult to get out. Wear gloves unless you have hands toughened by lots of manual work. Wear masks and vacuum up dust from the Kingspan (nasty stuff) and the treated battens If don't have dust extractors on your tools, have one of you hold the vac close to job as other cuts. My generation didn't bother with health and safety in such work with many regretting it now, if still alive.

If you look up the Restaration couple an English couple they done a van a few years ago ,he made the bed so it could come out quickly so he could use the van for other things ,just a though ,you should have glued your wood buttons on the floor not screw them down that can create rust on the floor ,too late now though ,good luck on your build mate ,old jimmy
