Keep at it when you have time and you're up to it. Been down myself. Went on an easy canoe trip with some new gear from me and friends. Campfire was all was needed. Folding firebox and Stanley cooking "kits" made it excellent.

Build a log A frame with walled off in the back and open in the front . Raised bed along one side or straight across the middle , touching virtical logs as the roof with a tarp over the top . Horizontal logs steaked up as the back wall . Fire pit in don't of the open end with a bushcraft chair for chillaxing

you can build up a solid base of rocks and mud to bind them and make it as high as you want so your fire i raised up to a more comfortable height
