That's the way the show was --- in order for "Knots Landing" to be the success that it was (not successful like "Dallas"), on which it had lasted for 11 additional years, the break up of both Gary and Val, might've been devastated, however, it was part of the storyline, while being with Abby (that Donna Mills, herself, had saved the show, Praise The Lord)! Also, despite the breakup, Gary loved Val, even more, esp. when disgusted. If Miss Ellie (Barbara Bel Geddes) were to visit "Knots Landing", she'd cry over him, over spilled milk, about Gary getting Abby, after divorcing Val. Near the end, Gary and Val made up, got remarried.

Gary Richard Collins II Donna Mills did save the show you are right, like Joan Collins saved Dynasty. Would have great if Katherine Wentworth had have taken on Abby.

Lillimae was one, meddlesome old woman......lol.....Val had already told her that she didn't want to talk or see Gary earlier in this episode. lol......Then she gets Val to come to the parking garage at a mall, and told Valene that her car had broken down. That's why Val asks if she is ok? If I were Val, I would tell her, "the next time your old Ford LTD breaks down, you need to call AAA." lol...

Heck they had to make the angst last as long as possible, it's only when they knew they were gonna end the show that they reunited them pretty much! They were always endgame. I'm trying to watched all that I missed on plex, but they don't have it on the demand...not sure why

Nate Steinhoff To some degree I think Poor Val, but then I think about how she denied Gary of seeing his twins. The ones they had together. Then I think poor Gary. I think fathers should have just as many rights as mothers.

@@jenniferwellman5311 Val was married to Ben at the time. Remember that Gary thought the twins were Ben's until he later found out the truth. Having a stable home life for the twins was a bigger concern for Val than Gary's feelings. After Ben's death, Val let Gary see the twins and the twins found out that Gary was their biological father in Season 11.
