A real nice tour of Rathtrevor, we were there this spring and enjoyed our time on the Island. An easy drive from the Interior to be on the ocean, well worth it.

Hi Ray always nice to see my part of the world, the island you were looking at is Lasqueti, Texada is between it and the mainland. There is a passenger only ferry that runs from the French Creek Marina.
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yeah forgot about Lasqueti the smaller, lower island in front of the larger Texada, the mountains of Texada are quite high at the south end, up over 2500 feet so you see lots of it from that vantage point. goo.gl/maps/ggSmCpXaEwdP2MAe8 Last year we took the ferry over from Powell River to Texada. Has a nice little campground at Shelter Point. Cheers, Ray

I commented on your last video because we were at Buttle Lake a couple of days before you. This time we were at Rathtrevor on Oct 20 but just overnight. I too was surprised to see the rabbits. It was a beautiful day. We have camped in the new sites and although they are not as private as the forest sites it is good for catching solar power. Another great video.

Wow nice park. You have showers! In Ontario Provincial Parks, no showers due to Covid. I think it was more because they can't clean them often enough or more likely not enough staff. Your prices are great too. Thanks for the info. Just put our rig into winter storage. No AZ, TX, NM this year...

Remember the controversy several years ago with the overpopulation of bunnies at UVic? Eventually they were captured and shipped to some place in Texas. We had a similar overpopulation problem in Ladner, i think they were eventually captured and neutered at great expense. People abandon pets without considering they are an invasive species. "Cute" isn't always good for the environment.

Nice in-depth tour Ray, thanks. Ruth and I spent a few days at Rathtrevor on our honeymoon (gosh, 33years ago) before we owned an rv. Maybe time to go back now. 👍 ps. Tried a second sail switch with no luck this time. Still no ignition. I’ll probably get a technician up to the Malahat here as I have no clue now, other than maybe the circuit board. Snow in the forecast uggg we’re missing Arizona for sure. Take care, you guys. Oh, are there full hook ups in the park?

@@kristiejacobs4854 Snowshoe rabbits are white in the winter, but yeah I have never seen rabbits like that except ones that were tame. I'm sure the color variant in tame rabbits comes from somewhere, possibly a recessive gene in their distant past of being wild, but I sure don't know. They a pretty, whatever they are.

@@LoveYourRV I often wondered if a person could attach those skirts with self stick velcro on the top and sides and tent pegs on the bottom to hold it straight. Buy the vinyl material at the fabric store. I recovered the shredding seat cushions on my leather loveseat and couch for a total of $50 for the vinyl material plus superglue; works really well.

Hard to say, guess if the spot your camped isn't too windy, here near the ocean we will get lots of big winter storms and tons of rain so wanted to go with something proven to work also needs to look nice to be accepted by the RV park. If camped in drier colder climates lots of people use foam board.

@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV Жыл бұрын
Yup, August and September is wasp season on Vancouver Island. Some years worse than others. The drones are done with jobs for the season .They have nothing to do but fly around crazed and starving. We are currently in Gorge Harbour, Cortes Island, tons here right now. www.wasp-removal.com/wasp-lifecycle.php "Once the wasp nest has produced new queens and these have spun their silk caps ready to pupate, the nest is then essentially on a countdown to death. The timing of new queen production varies from year to year, but it is synchronised, so all the nests do it at the same time. This is to ensure that there are enough drones and queens to mate successfully. The adult worker wasps that are left in the nest now have no food source because there are no wasp larvae in the nest to feed the adults with the sugar solution. This is when wasps can become a problem as they go looking for other food sources and often cross paths with humans. These wasps are looking for any source of food that contains sugar, so, for example, a pub garden with pints of beer or other sugary drinks and food lying about will be a target for hungry wasps. As autumn arrives and the weather gets colder, the wasp's food source diminishes. The remaining adult wasps and old queens die off due to starvation. By winter most average size nests have died, but occasionally a large nest will survive longer if enough food is available."
