My dad had the amigo, similar roof (colour and shape!) Damp/wet roof always an issue especially when cooking ( boiling water for pasta big no-no! Steam condenses on cold canvas) However, it was a fun vehicle and though I never camped overnight in it, I used it as a day van several times and always enjoyed tea or a meal in it. Engine wouldn't pull a greasy stick out of a dog's behind though! Best I ever got was 55 ish (think I qualified for membership of the dangerous sports club that day!)

Wow! Will, you've just sent me back in time. My dear old dad had two of these iconic little beast in the late 80s and the 90s. I still love to see (rarely now sadly) a little Fiat Amigo. Very quirky and compact, but tons of fun to be in, camp in and to drive. Dad's had the 800cc engines, so super economical, with that little engine right in the centre of the seats upfront. Thank you so much for this, I'm sitting here this evening with so many wonderful memories floating around inside my head. My dad had a 1981 model. Its roof externally looked identical but was hinged on the offside. The bed layout was three singles upstairs! One was across the cab, one pushed out and the third unhinged and dropped down from the roof, leaving a narrow gap to climb through for the three occupants upstairs. Downstairs could sleep two more! Just incredible that five adults, albeit one not too tall could sleep in it. Thanks for the video.

No power steering means move the vehicle very slightly forwards or backwards while turning the steering wheel at the same time , you will soon get the hang of it . Also a pic of the original steering wheel would be good as it seems to be a little sporty number (completly age correct) but I bet the original was bigger 😉

I had an Amigo years ago. It was quite old and not complete. I slept in it a few times, on one occasion, it was in a gale and was rocking like mad. Sink had a hand pump, fed from a 20l plastic can under the sink with another for wast. Gas canister was in there aswell. I used it for my hobby and daily transport, unfortunately the breaks needed a lot of work and before I got around to fixing it some lowlife stoll the sink/hob out of it so it ended going to the tip.

06:57 There should be a small knob right in the middle down at floor level near where the choke lever is. Open that and heat comes from the engine in the back! You have extra dash mounted gauges that I have not see before too. Best thing about my dad's one was the sound system - plodding through Yorkshire in 1985 listening to Eric Clapton is a lifelong memory.

I had 2 of these! Second one was a fiat amigo - even quirkier roof on those, rigid not canvas and slid out both sides to make a massive bed twice the width of the van. Mad thing, wish I'd kept it!

You need to find someone to lend you a Bedford CF250! Similar vibes, though a bit bigger. Reverse and first are next to each other and every gear waggles like neutral. Never lift the clutch too quickly as when going for first at a junction is say it was a 70/30 chance of going forwards. 2.3litre - very torquey, but only 4 gears. Went on a lads holiday in one at 18 and loved it and ended up buying it from my mates mum a few years later.

My grandparents used to travel Europe in a 1960s dormobile, which didnt look much older than that '84 campervan...which is strange.... I used to love the smell when I'd camp out in it on the drive as a kid in the 70's and 80's. Thinking back, that smell was probably damp and mustiness 🤔Oh well, happy days 😂

When making a bolognaise, just add your pasta to the sauce and it will thicken up and cook the pasta at the same time. We do this when camping to reduce the washing up and pan usage

Hey Will I had one of these a good few years ago and it was a 4.5 berth ! If I could find a good one I’d swap my c class Motorhome tomorrow best wee van ever The push was over the back door upstairs you had a single down both sides and a small transverse bed over the cab area the gap was in the middle of the van and downstairs the bed went all the way from the cooker to under the steering wheel. God I miss that van but they are like rocking horse doo doo. And there was me the wife and three kids, ( I had 4 kids but I can’t remember where she went ) 10 out of 10 from me.

Wrong I had one and toured france and the UK the base Fiat the conversion was made by Spacemaker named after their roof system also ha a VW spacemaker the roof material was a nightmare regarding condensation concept fine but the build standard was a bit suspect using chipboard.

I am amazed at how big the sleeping area is! I mean, you can actually fit in it. I was also surprised at how well the space was used in the seating and 'kitchen area' - you have certainly tried worse! What a clever 'tiny camper van'. Love it.

Love that! Its the same sort of roof as fitted to my VW Viking - very space efficient but a bit temperamental and very prone to condensation when you cook ( the canvas is a weird rubberised material that is very water resistant but gets cold - and smells pretty horrid when it gets mouldy!).
