If you're in Australia there's plenty of nice beaches and campsites where you can camp that are close enough to drive to a nearby town if you need anything so it's pretty easy to give it a shot without buying much. You'll soon figure out what you wish you had with you. Tent, mattress, sleeping bag, eski is enough to try it. Really nice to get away from civilization man, good for the soul.

I live in Canada. Your country has pretty spectacular views as well. Scotty, despite the popularity of the Blue Mountains, if there were no tourists visiting, that area would soon be developed for industry, farming, mining, or other government lucrative ventures. It's the world we live in. Use it, or lose it. At least the landscape remains mostly pristine (except for the designated trails and established campsites.).Consider what is happening in the Amazon, or in Europe, Africa, Asia...

If you’re looking for solace don’t forget the southern end of the blue mountains. Places like starlight’s trail, Nat tai wilderness, belloon pass and yerranderie to name a few. Have done plenty of theses areas myself without another soul to be seen. Less than 2 hours from yours as well. A lovely area encompassing plenty of hidden gems the blue mountains. Nice vid again 👍

stellar sunset! As someone who lived on the doorstep of the Nasho for years, and grew up west of the Blueys, it's a place I did a lot of travel past as well. When I got into MTB however, there were so many great places around Katoomba and the scenery is stunning, well worth the drive. And if you can get a not crowded place, well worth it!

That might have been what they said but the Grose is shallow and full of boulders for a massive chunk of the way, and stretches all the rest. I know someone who has done it - portage all day long. Scotty underestimates as well - what with changes of direction and all, it's at least 60, probably more like 80k.

@@stuartmarshall7099 that I'm more inclined to believe, although, having walked from the headwaters down stream and then back around to mt Vic, and having had a bit of a poke around downstream from blue gum for a day or two - so, knowing the off track sections of the upper river pretty well - I think it's probably harder going these days than people give it credit for. lots of hardcore regrowth post fires, it's not easy.

Looks like you made it to the Butterbox Point, try Lockleys Pylon or Fortress Ridge if you decide to come back to this part of Blue Mountains. There are so many epic trails in Blue Mountains and if you come at the right time, on a weekday, you won't see many people. 90% of people visiting Blue Mountains just go to Katoomba, Wentworth Falls and Grand Canyon in Blackheath

Beautiful spot but the first thing I thought was, looks like a great place for SNAKES! I had a friend from OZ who told me there were so many poisonous snakes around where she lived as a child she learned to "crack a snake" where you pick it up by the tail and snap it like a whip to kill it. This blew my mind but to her it was no big deal. Love your escapades, thank you.

Same thing happened to me when I switched from boots to Hokas. You’ll adjust your walking to the shoe. And they’re less catchy as they wear down. Expect them to degrade fast with off trail walking. They drain so fast they’re basically water shoes. Hokas are slippery on wet sandstone.

I just finished the Jatbula trail in a pair of Hoka speedgoats. It was my first time wearing trail runners on a multi day hike (I used to only wear them for day hikes with a small pack). I really liked them, no issues with my ankles and I found them quite grippy on uneven surfaces. My boots are also scarpa and forested and I wanted something more breathable and lightweight for tropical top-end climate.

A great walk as well is Pierces Pass to Acacia Flat where you can camp the night. This walk follows alongside the Grose River. Though, this track is very popular also. I don’t think it would be possible to pack raft the whole river due to the many boulders and tree debris from floods.

The canyon is called butterbox or mount hay canyon. Did it earlier this year. The exit is insane as you have to rock climb out. That canyon not is for beginners. Another grop had a beginner with then who feel and got concussed. Can't wait until spring for the next canyon season. If your are keen to do a canyon my mate and I take a few newbies on different canyons each year and keep the harder and more dangerous canyons for just us.

Another great Australian landmark, world renown actually hence the heavy traffic. S2S makes one of the best outdoor products. Great minimalist stove. Your carry is quite durable & high end. It's best to use proper hiking boots or high tops (ankle height) shoes to prevent ankle injuries. Being a veteran yourself we're surprised that you've got city slickers runners on. As always great representation of NSW. They should make you ambassador for Outdoors Australia. Stay safe, dump that shoe & catch you on the next one.

Stunning location mate and ripper views. I've gone from low cut joggers to hi cut boots for hikes after rolling my ankle and tearing 2 ligaments. Your ones look good but that ankle support now has become a big thing for me. 2km into a solo hike and I had to walk my way back out on a busted ankle, not fun.

Hi Scotty. I was in the gorgeous Blue mountains in winter 2 years ago; I well remember, standing on those cliff tops was as windy as all get out. BTW what you were worried about happening, rolling your ankle, is exactly what I did the first time I wore my brand new pair of hiking shoes, back in March. All due to the ultra-thick cushioned sole which i wasn't used to. I couldn't feel that my weight was too far over on a stone, and I stumbled. Nothing broken, but it took me 10 weeks before my ankle was right again, I lost so much walking time and fitness :( I know why it happened and I will be much more aware the next time I try out new footwear. and Yes, please do go back to the Blue Mountains! it's a huge place, and the tourists tend to not venture that far in.
