Hi Scotty, I am in my late sixties, and grew up in the country. Hunting was a part of life. Having a WW2 veteran for a dad, I was given rifle and a shot gun at a very young age, and strictly taught all the safety rules, and hunting skills. I haven't fired a shot in years, I fully understand and appreciate your reasoning in regard to hunting. Thankfully we have good people out there, that are continuing the work of controlling the numbers of feral, 'introduced species'. Learn the skills, and do your bit to help manage these species. I am not surprised to hear your story, I have seen and heard your concerns in many videos you have shared regarding feral populations of pigs, goats, deer, rabbits, foxes, cats and dogs. The damage they do to the environment and to our native species, they have to be controlled. You have at least one subscriber now, that supports you whole hardheartedly in this new project. Congratulations to you and Laura! on the birth of your son, enjoy your family time Scotty.

I agree with your view and I think hunting is something that people should be entitled to do, if they wish. I don't however think deer should have a seasonal restriction, they are a pest and are spreading to quickly in NSW. You should be able to hunt all Australian feral pests all year round and they should allow hunting in National Parks at certain times of the year.

Congratulations Scott, Laura and Colby. A new family. Your move to hunting is a natural progression from fishing and gathering bush tucker, and, as you say, hunting removes feral pests so go for it. One of the great things about your channel is your up front honesty about the decisions you make with regards to your philosophy about engaging with the natural environment. Hunting your own meat (and fish), growing and gathering food is being real. Good on ya.

Congrats Scotty, hunting is the natural way forward for living an outdoor lifestyle. The process of harvesting wild animals and consuming the meat and feeding your family is very special. I think a lot of people have lost the knowledge to harvest wild animals and it’s a great skill to develop and pass down from one generation to another

The hunting talk is 100% correct. I have had the same goal of trying to get a deer to process and have the meat. Also have a look at your Class R licences for state forests in NSW. There are so many places, which are beautiful to walk/hunt. If you have any questions let me know.

Loved hearing your thoughts on hunting. It’s not something I would watch just because I’m squeamish, but I enjoyed hearing your reasoning and seeing the photos. Completely get it and agree with how disconnected we’ve become from our food (as someone who has farmed beef cattle!). It’s sad. On a brighter note - congratulations on your beautiful boy!! Squeeze every moment out of this time with your wife and bubs. It’s so special and it goes by so fast!

Anyone who has a go at you for hunting your own food needs to wake up to themselves, they didn't have a problem with you hunting fish did they!, our property is 100% subsistence harvesting. We grow our own food from the meats to the vegetable even the grains that we make alcohol for fuel and our consumption. Oh and if anyone thinks we are rednecks... We live in Northern California and my husband harvests part of our meat too (deer, black bear, and turkey). It makes you appreciate your meals that much more. We know where the meat comes from and that it's been harvested humanely and given thanks over. Venison backstrap is my most favorite meat ever! That meal looked delicious, your venison cooked perfectly! Cheers.

Congrats to you and Laura on the arrival of your son - hope mum and bub are doing well and you’re coping ok with the nappies and lack of sleep! Don’t worry, we’ll all be here when you’re able to get out and about again. Agree totally with your stance on hunting. Modern society had a terribly disconnected relationship with our meat and food in general. Factory farming of animals is of course terrible though I would add industry scale production of vegetables and grains is no better for the environment or animals either. Growing, gathering and hunting your own food is how we’re supposed to do it. Do feel free to share some of it in your videos (though I suspect KZbin itself won’t be kind).

Your skills and knowledge will give him some memorable times. Tip for the camper dad: start really soon. If mum is up for it, babies transport well.
