I'm so glad you and Maria loved our little province! It's too bad you guys didn't get to the ocean sciences center. There's seals! There's also the Dungeon provincial park, which has beautiful formations. Bell Island would have been fun, it was the only place in North America to receive a direct hit from the German U-boats. They sunk several iron ore carriers anchored at the pier. There's awesome dive videos inside the wrecks. When you were in central, you also could see the Silent Witness memorial in Gander. It's was erected by Gander Lake to memorialize the Arrow air crash that claimed the lives of U.S servicemen heading home for Christmas. If you'd been here in spring, there's icebergs, whales, and caplin rolling. Tiny fish, called caplin, roll on the beaches. I have to go each year to collect buckets for my grandmother. There really are so many things to do. You're always welcome back! If you, Maria, and the pups come back, I'll point you in the direction of some cool stuff! It's so awesome seeing our island through the eyes of tourists. Safe travels to you both, as well your pups.

Oh, my Eurocentric friend. No, St. John's, Newfoundland is not North America’s oldest city. If you say oldest European settled cities, then St. John's, Newfoundland is up there, although I place St. Augustine, Florida first. Santa Fe, New Mexico might be number three. But most Americans (and Canadians) for some reason keep ignoring Mexico, which is in fact also part of North America. And Mexico and Guatemala have cities that were founded way before Europeans arrived. Olmecs and Maya are ancient civilizations thousands of years old. But I’ll name one city that was founded by the Aztecs in 1325, Tenochtitlán, now known as Mexico City.

If you include the Caribbean then the oidest would be Santo Domingo, founded by Columbus' brother in 1495. all these cities are European founded cities. The Native Americans had much older cities.
