I had the same issue with our pathfinder. 2 kids, 2 big dogs, and a big cargo topper wasn't enough room. Made a wood platform in the back that can fit carryon sized luggage under the dogs and made a world of difference. But a third kid is about to push us to a suburban so there is still room behind the 3rd row.

When my heeler was a pup she would puke all over when we would go on extended trips. Our vet prescribed Cerenia tablets to ease the nausea, which seemed to help the most. Not in conjunction, but we'd also use bonine or Dramamine. Don't know if you've explored those options. Anyway, the 21st century family wagon rig is looking bitchin!

Congrats on a beautiful 1st time camp with the awesome Lexus. Was wondering why you do not utilize a roof storage box like the ones made by yakima or thule. Is the wind noise excessive while in highway speed on the way to the trail/camp site ? Are the roof box shape and dimentions too limiting or too tall ? or just not your style ? The Ortlieb duffel looks waterproof enough to handle the elements; has it been tested in a drive home during a rainstorm ? Thanks.

We have the previous FSR hub tent and really love it. The new one is interesting. Really like the bigger door but don't know how I feel about the sides being blacked out unless rolled up. Interesting choice. The bedding is what takes up so much space doing a ground tent. Getting two of us comfy and now with our own little guy coming along there's a lot of stuff.

Why is no one making affordable hub tents. The closest to budget are gazelle and to get one big enough for a family is still over $500. Its the same materials as a standard tent. Roof tents made people think under $1k is budget for a tent.

I agree, RTTs have kind of made a bubble in the tent industry. Honestly the outrageous cost of real estate these days is probably contributing too lol

I’ve got a Kodiak Canvas 10’ x 10’ tent, which is great, but the thing weights 80lbs and takes a long time to set up since each steak needs to be pounded into the ground, but it’s very comfortable and nice to be able to stand and have all 4 of my family inside, but still being up on a roof does feel a bit safer with less shuttling of gear inside and outside the vehicle.
@franny52955 ай бұрын
I bought a gsi slim fold table and it's really nice. It's just big enough to be helpful but small enough to tuck out of the way. Edited to add: You know, they make closed trailers specifically for camping. The one I saw is about 5k before tax and I will definitely have to save for that but I bet you could afford it if you wanted to. I'm also 5'2" tall and widowed which means anything that goes on top of my SUV, I have to climb the truck to put it up there and get it down which is probably not safe. It would give you plenty of space, you can take it off, you'd have a garage to store it so you won't have that worry about it growing legs and walking off. Might be worth your while if you're camping with your family. Edited one more time to add: That mattress topper, I take one too and squeeze it into a sleeping bag compression bag. It works great.

I went from rooftop tent on my Tacoma to a trailer (converted truck bed) and love it. My truck stays pretty clean and minimalistic while camping, which I like. The trailer does add challenges sometimes on the trail but I’ve had more positive experiences than negative. I’m sure your family would enjoy and appreciate the open space inside the suv.
