Growing up my neighbor was a HAM operator and he talked to Russia,Germany and all over the world. He set up a large tower antenna and beer can “trap”, so the construction workers that were remodeling our house had a high power CB and talked to Australia (I live on the side of a “mountain” facing South in Honolulu) because of my neighbor’s antenna

I have the ft5d and use this adapter below from Amazon that you can charge radio with usb-c NFHK USB 3.1 Type C USB-C Female to DC 12V 4.0x1.7mm Plug Adapter Charger does half to be 12v. Nothing less than 12v will work

Unfortunately no one in my circle is experienced with this stuff so it’s been a struggle to find frequencies and repeaters that are active/have a fair amount of traffic. I am very green to the subject. I’ve messed around a little with repeater book and have gone to one mtg at a local radio club to meet some people.

Had an SWR of 3 and dropped it to 1 with a tuner. That was without the counterpoise wire attached at all. I'm gonna toy around with some bonding/grounding though and see what we can do.
