I tested a foldable, lightweight, titanium camping wood stove. This stove is easy to assemble and store and carry. I think it is good as hot tent stove in the winter. It is made of titanium and has strong resistance to heat deformation. Heat-resistant glass is mounted on the front and sides, so you can light up the surroundings and observe the fire inside the stove.

@campingtogether
@campingtogether 4 жыл бұрын

@@campingtogether You could bank and buffer the heat if you placed bricks or rocks under and against the sides that are solid. If you planned to use this stove for an extended period, lining the bottom and back wall with 1cm thick firebrick or cement board would extend the life of the metal and allow heat to dissipate slowly and as embers die down. Great design

Try canoe camping if you can. Tidal waters are buggy and swampy usually, but rivers through wide valleys above the tidal waters may provide for you nicely. Class 2 rapids may be easily run in any canoe with little danger to equipment. I always store electronics and food and such in water proof bags and 5 gallon paint buckets with the kids on. I always double tied everything in so nothing will hang down, or move if the canoe turns upside down. Always have a knife on you. A canoe makes carrying all your equipment easy and fun. I've visited Korea as a USN sailor. Pusan, was my first port ever. It was fun and the people were very nice. The markets were quite exotic and exciting to me. I hope you have access to a great river and make use of it's upper waters above the tidal. You could easily use KZbin to make yourself a canoe in a few days for $200 or less maybe. I really dig your stoves and this video demonstrating end explaining this stove and the advantage of titanium against deformation. Thousands of icy nights I wish I'd simply had something like this. Instead I got burn scar's from doing stupid shit in desperation to keep warm. I'm not proud of how ignorant I was, but had I just had the confidence to build a simple wood stove and used it aboard my sailboat, I would not have suffered so from condensation, cold, asphyxiation, and fire. I was an idiot, and I'm lucky to have survived being so stupid, so persistently. That was years ago though. I have learned to guard against being stupid.

I hope you bought the Max version of the TBrick but you didn't, did you? I think you might wish you did. Pomoly told me not to but I still want to buy an extra burn chamber and triple stack my TBrick Max. I don't have to fill it with wood. It would radiate lots of extra heat.

I did not buy the Max version, @donolinger6904. I can't remember if I regretted that I didn't buy it last winter. But now that you mention it, I will probably want to get it this winter when I go winter camping in a couple of months 😅
@donolinger6904
@donolinger6904 11 ай бұрын
@@how-to-camp-like-jim You can buy the upper chamber if you want. You don't need to buy a whole new T Brick Max. If you really like camping like this, an extra wood stove would be nice to enable more shared camping trips. You might need extra tents too. I think Winter camping must be the best, in a hot tent anyway. It's too easy to cool off and there are most likely no insects either. Those are the two worst things about warm or hot weather camping. It's hard to cool down in the Summer, especially if the air is humid and stagnant. You can easily dry soaked gear in a hot tent as well.

I had briefly considered this stove but determined that the large glass panels were a potential weak point for cycle camping, also, the stove was larger than I wanted. Titanium tent stoves are certainly improving camp life in winter and there has never been such a range available. I bought a Seek Outside titanium Cub Stove (the model with the solid panel body, not the titanium foil Cub U-Turn version). This size is perfect for my requirements with the modifications I requested at the time of ordering.

Hot tent stove? Not while you're pulling your combustion air from directly inside the tent. The draft will, of course, pull in an equal amount of ZERO DEGREE AIR (or whatever is ambient) from outside the tent to replace it. Feed the combustion chamber with another pipe from outside the tent, exhaust the smoke outside the tent, and keep the warm air inside. Then you have a hot--or at least heated--tent Otherwise, all you are doing is ensuring your tent is very well ventilated. With cold outside air. Same thing with burning a non-vented fireplace in your house. Start a fire in the winter. Five minutes later and you are already feeling the cold drafts heading toward the fireplace, and the furnace comes on. Because the house is getting colder inside, not warmer. That's the very reason that wing-back chairs were invented. They allow you to sit facing the fire while blocking the cold drafts coming from behind you. True story.

In principle, what you say makes sense. But in practice, that is not the case. I have a Pomoly stove and tent and have used it with wind and snow outside, yet had T shirt temperatures inside the tent. Consider if the temperature outside is zero and you pull in 1 cubic foot of cold air. But the combustion process using that one cubic foot heats several cubic feet adjacent to the stove to 200 degrees. You now have a net gain. That is in fact what happens.

 @캠핑투게더 Which Pomoly stove would you get for solo 1-2 overnighters in the new Pomoly Stovehut 70 tent? I'm pretty sure that I want the folding option. So the T1 line and not the bit lighter Timber line. Which also excludes the bit heavier brick line. Thenk, I think I want side windows. So, which T1 would you get? - T1 mini 3 with 3 windows, 10l chamber, 30,5 cm long, 2,65kg, $509 - T1 perspective, 3 windows, 15l chamber, 38cm long, 3,9kg, $505 - T1 ultra, 2 windows, 20l chamber, 3,6kg, 44cm long, $575 So basically do I want a 1kg lighter mini or a bit bigger perspective or even ultra where I can put in longer woods. Cooking area I don't need so much. Also, not the side shelves, though I'm not entirely sure about that :)

I like that the side with no widows supposedly doesn’t get as hot or you could turn the brightness from you. I also heard the glass is heavier? Depends if you’re going to do anything else with that stove area. Do you need more cooking space? To me it sounds safer to have the stove as far from the mesh as possible. I’m looking to get that tent also so please let me know what you think and what poles you get. I’ll go watch more videos of what stove people use with it. God bless. Your comment helped me.

I have one of the Pomoly stoves and tipi tent. I used it last Winter with it snowing and windy. Unless the outside temperatures are approaching zero or negative degrees Fahrenheit, even the smallest stove will be just fine. Being a small firebox, you have to feed the fire every few minutes. The glass does add weight, and for the woods I burn, the glass gets sooted and becomes opaque. My model has replaceable panels, so I removed the glass side panel and replaced it with its titanium counterpart.

@@someoneofgods2620 My model of Pomoly stove is not intended to have a mesh replace the top. Frankly, I don't see the appeal for that. Using the top surface and cooking with a pot or pan is just fine. The smoke and fumes from an open top excludes its use inside a tent. Also, if you're in bear country, the stove will retain (shall we say) an 'appealing' scent. I use mine in the Sierra, and I want nothing within 100+ feet of the tent smelling like a tasty burger!

A great option for a portable stove 👍. But how reliable is it with frequent use, will the bottom burn out, will the geometry of the stove bend? It's cold here and we need to heat it a lot. And so the idea is cool!

I have an almost identical model of stove from the same company (Pomoly). These stoves are made of TITANIUM and are completely unaffected by heat and corrosion. They warp a very small amount and have a few ribs to minimize warpage. It is not a problem. Being titanium, they are expensive - typically $350 to $600. The one shown here is likely one of the models running ~ $510. What you get is something which can be compressed to a very small size, weighs about 4 pounds, and will last indefinitely. I used mine last Winter, along with a tipi tent from the same company. Even with wind and snowing, the tipi was T shirt temperature inside. However, the small firebox size means that you have to feed the fire new material every few minutes. One of the novel items is the titanium stove pipe. It is just a flat and very thin sheet of titanium about a foot wide and 8 feet long. For transport, it is rolled up lengthwise. But for use, you roll it width-wise and slip on some rings so it maintains its 6 cm diameter. The supplied gloves are only used when you roll the thin sheet, as it is quite sharp. After the first firing, the sheet takes a set, making it easier to roll it into a stovepipe. You do have to attach 3 guy lines to support the pipe. Otherwise it can readily topple and buckle the pipe The assembly and disassembly of both the stove and pipe can leave soot on one's hands. So bring some soap and/or gloves stored in a baggie. Another suggested item is that just before firing it for the first time, wipe all external surfaces with a degreasing agent. The reason is purely cosmetic. The titanium takes on a bronze coloring when first fired and any fingerprints and oil will permanently affect the coloring. I did a half-assed job of wiping mine, and I can see spots I missed. It's no big deal, but it would look nicer if I had used an aggressive degreaser that does not leave any residue. Lastly, I have mixed feelings about the glass. It is refractory glass and can handle the heat. But a lot of wood types leave soot on it, rendering the view opaque. Supposedly, if you only burn hardwood and get the fire hot enough, the soot will burn away, leaving a nice view. Where I camp, softwoods are the main staple.

@@gregparrott can you use this in a tiny home?
@gregparrott
@gregparrott 2 жыл бұрын
@@noctilucent7396 If the 'tiny home' is located in a city, regulations will almost certainly prohibit any wood burning fireplace or stove. If the home is on your property, in the woods, (e.g. a hunting cabin), there may be no regulations 'Tiny' is a relative term. But if 'tiny' is less than 10' x 20', is decently insulated, and not in sub zero temperatures, it certainly could. But as I mentioned before, the stove's small volume means that you have to frequently feed it fuel. It might be possible to make it last a bit longer if you started with small stuff to get it going, then loaded 2 or 3 blocks of long lasting oak, optimally sized to max out the stove's interior, and then throttle down the air intake. Maybe large chunks of mined coal (not charcoal briquettes) would last longer. Barring some optimization like that, you really need to feed it several times per hour, and even more if you're burning smaller sticks, etc. If you don't absolutely need the super low weight or the compactness of a stove that folds up, I would buy something bigger. A stove that is a bit larger is the 'XL' model of the 'Gstove'. It weight ~15 pounds, is made of stainless steel and is not collapsible. It too does not hold enough wood to burn more than ~2 to 3 hours at best. There are larger sizes are made by many companies. One of the largest titanium stoves, and is a bit bigger than the Gstove XL is made by 'Four Dog'. These are also made of titanium and are very expensive (~$800 to $1000 plus accessories)). If you don't need the super light weight and/or aren't willing to pay the 3X to 5X premium for titanium, just look for a steel stove that is reasonably thick and preferably has some brick liners for the bottom. (Note: Thin sheetmetal stoves quickly wear out). I think Cabelas sells one. Or just look online for 'Outfitter tent stoves'. One other thing. A tent vents a lot to the outside, which offers some margin of safety against carbon monoxide poisoning. But if you use such a stove in a well sealed house, you should buy a carbon monoxide sensor/alarm.

I SAY that's a cool little stove, but, there's always a but, lol, those little holes on the side where you connect the sides to the bottom of the stove. Does smoke come out of the sides from those little slots? I thought I saw some smoke coming out of those little slots. Really would like to see in the daytime running. That away you could see the gray/black smoke if it came out of those little slots. At night you wouldn't see it as much. I like your stove better. It just looks like your stove is better built, sturdier, heavy duty, like a MAN'S STOVE. The other like a dainty woman's light weight stove.... haha... And I'm a woman & would rather have your stove... lol... oh I'm being silly now.. I really like your better. IMO! I get so hungry when you cook that Ramon. You make some of the best looking to. But I'll pass on that spam meat.. My Grandma use to cook that stuff when I was young all the time. I just got burnt out on it. I'll eat it sometimes, but can't eat it all the time. But I'd like my rice soaking up all that meat juice, yes, sir & pour a little bit of that Ramon soup to... yummy, yummy..... lol... Great video on the stove. I really liked it, but I still want to know about the smoke. Have a great day/night. Be safe & happy cooking/camping, Chris from Missouri

Thank you for your favorable comments on my stove. Of course, I admit that mine is not perfect. However, there seems to be something special. So it seems that the subscribers are showing interest in my stove. The smoke leaking from the side wall connection joint is because I completely closed the damper. I am aware of this phenomenon, and I know that it is a common occurrence due to incomplete airtightness in stoves made without welding and I wanted to inform you. However, I don't think this is a big problem if you use it when you're awake, not when you sleep in winter. When the damper is open beyond a certain level, smoke is discharged with heat through the flue, so the inside of the stove becomes vacuum and smoke does not leak out, but air is sucked in. I think you will understand well. Thank you again for your interest in my stove. Have a great weekend!
@MrRegnes
@MrRegnes 3 жыл бұрын
Heat rises, doctor. One of the basic principles of wood stoves. You start a small fire, the heat rises out of the pipe, thus creating a vacuum in the box, which draws in more air to feed the fire. Positive pressure, thrugh the stove, so I don't think you'd ever see smoke coming out of those pesky little slots. Au contraire, once the fire is going the vacuum in the box would be drawing air IN through any minor fissures in assembly.
