The Executive Director of the USC Shoah Foundation says campus protests have ceased making a distinction between what is pro-Palestinian and what is anti-Israeli. In an interview with DW, Robert Williams also urged against the misuse of the term 'genocide' and called for a broader discussion on what constitutes antisemitism.

There’s many such interviews on YT. Most protestors have apparently been trained to tell reporters, “Sorry, we’re not media trained, you’ll have to speak to the protest organizer.”

I don't see why interviews with protesters would necessarily have a pro-Hamas bias. That's making an assumption. Protesters could have a pro-Hamas stance. Or they could be protesting the brutality taking place. Or they could be protesting Israel's blocking of humanitarian aid or squelching of reporting from Gaza. Interviews would be what is called "primary sources" in journalism.

Nobody talks about boycotting or even sanctioning Russia, right? We only always talk about Israel. Oh, wait, there are sanctions against Russia. And maybe we don't talk about other conflicts because most of the Global North doesn't care about what happens in regions that are not part of it and that many people couldn't find on a map. In January, there was a publication in the Lancet with the title "No evidence of inflated mortality reporting from the Gaza Ministry of Health". His statement that sure, civilians died sounds cynical and as if protesters were making a big deal out of nothing. If you give space to somebody that pretty much mirrors the arguments of one conflict party, i.e. the Israeli government, you might balance it out by also interviewing somebody who will advocate for the other conflict party. Or you chose a more critical approach to this interview.

The belief that criticism of a country's government is the criticism of it's people/ethnicity/religion is an ethnonationalistic one. All i know is that isreali people also ain't fans of what is going on Sadly the government there is trying to play into the feeling of nationality. In isreal itself there is now a growing distance between people, who are feeling like they are once again under attack and want to do a preventive assault out of self defense and the other group just wants it all to stop but they know that they can protest but that won't change a single thing. Saddest part is that thanks to what's happening in other countries, they don't feel safe moving there either. The numbers of antisemitism are rising in the west. The protests don't all have to do with it though. It's growing because people are forced to take a side. And honestly, taking a side in this war is once again choosing between 2 bad options. Both parties did and do wrong stuff. Defending one over the other, like defending isreal for this massive assault, is kinda wrong. You're protecting the destruction of living spaces and loss of innocent lives to make an end to some rotten apples But neither hamas was innocent. I just hope this war won't escalate. The entire region does not deserve yet another war...
