For this challenge I held my breath everyday for 20 days to see what would happen. I used free diving breath holding training to see how long I could hold my breath, with the end goal of holding my breath for 4 minutes. A 4 minute breath hold is something that I saw in Mike Boyd's video and wanted to give it a try and see if I could get it in 20 days. Here's how it went, and I hope you like my breath holding video.
Have a great week guys! Cheers.

Love your channel but you really need to add a disclaimer to this, people might get the idea that they can practice underwater breathholds solo. You can drown in a rubbermaid tub if you blackout. The first rule of freediving is to never, ever, ever practice holding your breath in the water alone!

Yeah, i tried a meditation by Wim Hof once - and it stated in the info to not do it in or under water. Sidenote: My first try of holding my breatch with that meditation/breathing technique got me to 2 minutes.

Make sure you don't practice underwater breath holds alone. Read the Oxygen Advantage. Helps cardio, sleep, and I can hold my breath for around 4 minutes now without having practiced breath in holds, only breath out holds. Obviously that's breath in though.

Seeing a lot of people suggest Wim Hof method to help but you should never combine Wim Hof breathing with holding your breath in the water. I love Wim Hof method and practice it almost every day, and I also have been doing freediving tables for the last few weeks but you should never combine the two. Wim Hof breathing greatly increases the chances you will blackout in the water because of the effect on your CO2 levels. That's why Wim says to lie down or sit while doing it.

Dreaming about drowning is a serious sign that you have sleep apnea! If you are really having dreams that you are drowning, you need to get yourself to a respiratory specialist right away and have a sleep study done.

Wim Hoff breathing method is an easy one to get long times. My absolute peak is exactly 5 minutes. Though, its a thing that works better when doing the session, right and fully. Outside of it, i dont know if it has any lasting effects. Also trying some box breathing. Havent tested myself underwater, where it counts, but ill do at some point.

would this translate over to actually swimming? like having to take less breaths when sprint swimming?
@harley2166
@harley2166 3 жыл бұрын
It would help but maybe not as much as you think. Sprinting is very anerobic based whereas this breath holding is very passive. To improve on your breathing for swimming(or lack there of) you want your body to be working the a similer condition, so forcing yourself to breath less often when training will have larger benifits than a passive breath hold

My Best holding breathing was 2:30 on land and under cold water was 1:55, comment how much u got?(if u want) by the way its better if u breath in and out in medium speed in your nose or mouth 35 times then it will remove most of the carbon dioxide and let u be able to breath in much more oxygen without it I don't think I would be able to hold my breath that long, (by the way I was able to do this as a beginner).

You should never combine Wim Hof breathing with the freediving. By all means practice them separately but WH creates a real danger of blackout if you try to combine them.
@_Bachi_
@_Bachi_ 3 жыл бұрын
@@Cuse330Ci you will black out if you hold your breath too long under any technique. Free divers notoriously black out and have to be revived in the water, some die.

@@_Bachi_ Yes, that is true, blackout is an inherent danger to any breath hold activity BUT Wim Hof breathing greatly increases the chance you will blackout during a dive if you do it immediately before the dive.
