I tripled Temu plates, wrapped them a few times tightly with duck tape and they stopped 5.56 with Seperate shots👍

What a fun video! My expectations were blown away almost as much as the rear plate was after catching the 7.62 round!
@jamesbuccigross692011 ай бұрын
Its helpful that they have the ballistic gelatin behind the plates for their tests, that really shows much better the effects on a human body the impact of the various rounds have, regardless of whether the round penetrates the plate or not. You don't have that when the plate is set up by itself or with a hard backstop, like a cement block or hard wood. Regardless, even if it doesn't penetrate, you may live if hit, but you won't come away unscathed, although bruises or a broken rib or two, or even some other non-penetrating internal injury is preferable to having, say, a 7.62x39 round make a tunnel through your vital organs. At the very least, these plates are better than nothing.
@PhantomLlamasDen11 ай бұрын
We realized our first set up was not the best on our initial single plate test. We learned from that one. Someday it would be great to get a torso and even a throwaway plate carrier…but that will have to be for down the road! Also 100% agree with your analysis. Better than nothing. Not ideal (obviously). But far better than taking a round in the chest! Thanks for the comment!!

The 7.62 was a bit odd. What ammo brand did you used for 7.62 also what was the barrel length of the AR for interest sake? I've seen other videos where it took far more layers of 3A soft armor to stop a 7.62(the fact that it was soft armor could be why it was), so if that was american made 7.62, then it was probably trash. But who knows, do enlighten if I made any oversights. Now that I think of it, if those were PE plates it could also make sense, it's a dense and strong material, but the glue doesnt hold well, so the faster, thinner and sharper 5.56 could've made it to drill through the plates faster before it could get a chance to deform🤷♂️
@PhantomLlamasDenАй бұрын
I could be wrong at this point but for this video I believe I shot a round of my actual Tula ammo. I remember specifically not using my steel core stuff for obvious reasons lol Barrel length for the AR was 16” (technically 14.5” but you know…pinned/welded..)
@c03_psychie20Ай бұрын
@@PhantomLlamasDen Oh yeah, tula is good. Hmmmm....the only reasonable thing I can think of is that the 5.56 was perfect for that short distance penetration with a fast and sharp enough drill to funnel through the PE fibers🤷♂️

@jungleginger2809 it happens a lot. Searching for bullet proof plates, and some diligence in looking at the stuff that pops up will yield good results. Just be careful of the ones that say hard plates or metal!
@justinmurray465211 ай бұрын
Obviously they mean you are compromising the plates with lesser rounds before shooting with more powerful rounds so ya its not accurate because the plates are compromised.But i understand the cost of a new plate for each round as well.Maybe start with the biggest caliber first
@PhantomLlamasDen11 ай бұрын
The thing about it was the only round that failed in the original test was a 30-06. Which we didn’t expect to be stopped. The compromised plate still stopped everything previously. With this test, I was glad that the 5.56 sounds were before the 7.62x39 and the 30-06. But again- the compromised plates still stopped the larger rounds. We have one more of these coming in the next two weeks. Without spoiling it, despite compromised plates these SEEM to be holding to the prescribed standards….despite not being truly certified. It’s been a fascinating series. Down the road we are seriously considering doing a “one round per plate” test. Cost be damned! Lol

Banana ballistics did a 300blk vs 7.62x39 test and the results were very interesting. Many of the AK rounds appear to be under powered from what I saw on deployments. We thought the injury patterns and damage to vehicles where closer to 2700+ ft/s and not in the lower 2300 range.

I came here because I am trying to figure out what plates I could put over my existing 3a soft armor. I live in an area with a history of civil disorder after disasters (New Orleans), and typically after nasty events, only pistols were a threat. That said, I'm told by friends in Law Enforcement, that there are just more rifles out there these days. So I'm thinking UHMWP plates over my soft armor just to cover the vital areas that would put me in the grave regardless of medical aid. (And, yes, I'm concerned about my head too, I have a USGI K-pot.)

Statistically and hypothetically speaking, there is truth here. Unless you’re facing open revolt or a heavy military-backed situation (whatever that may look like). But at the same time, a higher level of protection would always be desirable. And at this cost…it’s an interesting thought..
