The best part was, it felt exactly the same as 55, only with a little more wind noise, because it was a two-ton Oldsmobile, and they didn't get excited about anything. :)

I remember as a kid (10+ years ago), seeing a yellow Diablo and a young Mr. Dahm parking in a parking lot in Irvine while with my dad. “Wow, what a bad financial decision for such a young guy” my dad said. “...dad doesn’t understand” I quietly thought. Being 13/14 at the time, I was just discovering the world. But what I remember is thinking: “to each his own.” If that amount of happiness of owning a crazy car is worth the money and time and BS&T is worth it to the man, then let him enjoy it. This has forever changed my outlook on life. Enjoy what you invest in, and invest in what you enjoy. Only then will your passion propel you to success. Investement has, will, and always will be money, time, brain power, muscle, and least of these: money. Thanks for living an inspiring life Mr. Dahm.

Max 250kph (155mph) is possible with low traffic & no wind I know I've hit the limited warning as it popped up in my dash but it doest restrict the speed so downhill even gets the needle above 250kph. Took it on the Nurburgring too... Id love to rent a Lambo just to break a personal speed record. Even budget underpowered rental cars like a Renault making

Having been the passenger in a Civic Type R (FK8) doing 179 MPH (top speed) I feel what you mean by the down-force and the feeling of the change. It's incredible how much tactile feeling I had as just a passenger at those speeds. I would love to experience 200 MPH. I'm also a very timid person a lot of the times, and reckless driving is one of the only things to give me a real panic attack (other than flight takeoffs and rollercoasters) but something about going that fast and all the sensory cues I was experiencing at 165 mph+ made me let go. If the lousy 179 I did (experience) in a Type R changed my personality I can't imagine what 200mph would do. Another strange sensation is when you push a car with nearly no down-force to it's mechanical top speeds. I've pushed a 90's V6 toyota way past 140mph and I felt a lot of those same sensations that you describe. The handling changes wildly. My current daily is a Mercedes 190e W201 it's a good thing it's slow, because I'm always trying to use my whole speedometer.

I went 120 mph in a MR2 Spyder then 125 mph in the same MR2 Spyder downhill. It's amazing how a little hill can help you reach new speeds when you are at the limit of the engine and aerodynamic capabilities. It felt like a scientific experiment, reducing variables until only change remained; how much gravity was helping. You get an eerie sense of intimacy when you are dealing with a single variable at a time especially at the limit of a vehicle's maximum potential. If you can do it safely, definitely test a car's max speed!

My lifetime top ground speed is about 165 (Speedo readout) in a WS6-1LE Firebird on a remote Indiana highway at 3:00AM. The gauge was bouncing between 165 and almost 175. It was near terrifying knowing I was one deer away from death, and the faster I went, the shorter the reach of my headlights got. You are basically rocketing into a dark wall and there is little hope you can see anything far enough ahead of you in time to react without dying at those speeds. It did get it out of my system, and it made me never want to do that again on a public road. I can't imagine hitting 200 knowing how fast things are coming at you, and what every little imperfection in the road surface does to the car. Yea, it's a thrill... but imagine what would be left of you if even one small thing goes wrong at those speeds. Yea, I'm older and wiser now, and I can say with confidence that competition on a closed track is much more rewarding in the end. I grew up a lot from that experience, and hopefully the description alone will discourage others from doing such foolish things on public roads. The risks are simply too high.
@nickelliot36794 жыл бұрын
I've had sport bikes which carried me over 180 MPH, but never 200. The wind resistance is what's so incredible-- like riding into a hurricane. Pop your head a few inches above the windscreen, and you'll run the risk of being literally peeled off the bike in a heartbeat. Another cool side effect of these speeds is how your field of vision narrows down to a small tube- all else is a blur.

I have hit the mechanical top speed of a few vehicles I have owned (and some I didn’t - thanks Hertz!) - and it can be quite a rush! Or in the case of the Festiva, quite a comedy. (Foot planted to the floor for 15-20 minutes, hitting that downhill just right with a tail wind, and finally breaking that 80mph barrier!) But other cars got squirrelly. And some you felt the front end get light and wisely backed off while you still had steering and braking. A Diablo at 200? I can only imagine.

This was a great story! I was assuming that the car probably can't do 200mph GPS verified stock. Just seems like a tall ask since you need perfect conditions and TONS of road. Doing it in Detroit would be quite hard since their aren't any insanely long straights. Either way it's crazy nowadays 35K mustangs can do GPS verified 175mph+ and cars under 100K new and stock can do 210mph+.
