Can a Chiropractor Fix a Misaligned Jaw?

Well it all depends on what the cause of the misalignment is. However in most cases probably - yes!
Most people don’t even know that they may have a misaligned jaw. In fact a partner or loved one may hear you grind your teeth at night, whilst you are fast asleep. A common reason for grinding teeth is holding stress in your subconscious.
Chewing is often done one sided, i.e. we prefer chewing in one direction more than the other. However just like you wouldn’t carry a bag on just one shoulder, the same is true with our jaw joints. We want to ensure we get equal movement through both sides.
We have two temporomandibular joints (TMJ) in front of each ear. That’s where you can often feel some ache or pain from teeth grinding or too much clenching of the TMJ. One of the main muscles that creates movement of the TMJ is the temporalis muscle which spans over the side of the head, commonly causes headaches in this area.
As chiropractors and osteopaths we are trained to know about the deeper connection between the muscles round the back of the neck and the jaw area. So a misuse of the TMJ can have a profound knock on effect to the rest of the spine.
One way of treating the TMJ is via the spinal joints and nerves. Another is by holding onto the jaw joint itself and performing a direct manipulation. Remember that although this can help, we must still consider the overall lifestyle that may be the root cause of the problem.

I have a misaligned jaw. I opened and closed my mouth a lot to unplug my ear from a cold virus that went to my left ear which kept plugging up. I’ve seen several ent drs had hearing test list a little hearing during cold virus that showed sensory neural hearing loss. It caused terrible dizziness not vertigo but dizziness suddenly loss of balance ear pressure in my left ear. I was opening and closing my mouth a lot to get the ear or eustacian tube to open my ear up. It went to my right ear eventually. I had sinus problem but it finally went away. But now my left ear is affected and my right jaw is out of alignment. Causing me so much pain. It’s been this way now since I had the cold virus that lead to me opening and closing my mouth to get my ear unplugged. I’ve seen an oral facial pain specialist diagnosed with myofascial pain syndrome. I’m currently in physical therapy for neural manipulation. So far it hasn’t been helping. The last time I went, she did a lot of neural manipulation on my left jaw. She said that’s where it was coming from not my right jaw. So she did some gentle manipulation inside my mouth and around my left side of my jaw. But it erupted and made my right jaw so painful. I was hoping the pain would come back, but it has. This whole week the pain has been terrible around my right side of face under my jaw my jawline the lymph nodes under my jawline. My right side of my head. Nerve pain shooting up in the back of my head side of my head.along my cheekbone around my eye and the bone around it. Right now my back molars are sensitive and very painful. Just the whole side of my head is killing me. I wish I could get some help thinking of maybe seeing a chiropractor who specializes in it. What are your thoughts. Any help would be appreciated. Excellent and clear video, thank you! I have a mid aligned jaw due to a direct impact in sport (punch in boxing). I have had this for three years, with clicking jaw on both sides (tighter on the right), tight neck muscles, grinding teeth, headaches, change in posture etc. Would you recommend a tmj adjustment over a dental treatment then to solve this mis-alignment. Thank you!

That's a great question. I would recommend a well rounded assessment to determine the most appropriate treatment plan. The chiropractor would be good for finding the source of your joint dysfunction, but will not be as qualified in most cases as a dentist who can provide you with intra-oral work. Hope that helps 😁

@@slime4ktjay870 yes bro, I found a jaw/TMJ chiropractor. It’s 90% better, but still not back to 100% health. I’d consider looking into a dentist too as well as chiro

Can this correct a class 3 underbite perhaps in conjunction with upper palate expander . It's not an extreme underbite. I'm a mouth breather with a narrower upper palate . Trying to correct it without surgery. Thoughts on this and this jawtrac device?

Living with TMJ is misery. I’m seeing a chiropractor but will they be able to fully fix the jaw only god knows. It’s really hard to understand where the problem is and which way to go about fixing it. Mine is due to an injury and just lived with it.

Get a proper xray of your face, to check for facial fractures, skew teeth causes a tilt in the head, a tilt in the head causes scoliosis and back problems.
