I love my Kamp-Rite Oversized tent. For help with condensation, I run a small USB powered fan.

I have the single person version and love it. It's great for quick overnight camping trips. Easy to deploy and setup, easy to tear down, and the rain fly is super easy to put on. I've camped in it down to about 20 degrees F, and found that it held a lot of body heat and kept me pretty comfortable.

Your welcome. Although, it seems like this model might be out of production, as I can’t find it on Kamp Rite’s website anymore.

THANK YOU ! Your video was actually very helpful for my decision. Almost all of the review videos I have seen sounded like the person was afraid to say anything negative for fear of losing a potential sponsor. They have lost a subscriber and you have definitely gained one. I may soon be starting a period in my life of literally living "in a van down by the creek". I have a small RV that is very comfortable ( if I am comparing to a tent) but I will have to choose between that ( 10MPG ) and a much newer subcompact pickup that will allow me to actually travel a bit ( 40+ mpg ). It will just be me and my Yorkie companion so I have been spending a lot of time looking at this as a possible option. I had not even considered condensation and was really surprised to see the extent of wear on your unit. I think I may revert to researching larger single wide tent cots which will store and travel better and stick to the ones that breath as you referenced. Thanks again !

We have ditched our rooftop tent for a Gazelle T4, just tried it out for the first time last weekend, we loved it. We do have backpacking blow up mats we use
@MattKester

Ain't nothing wrong with that setup. Once, a long long time ago, we had a T4 Plus. It was a bit overkill for our needs, but I definitely appreciated a lot of the features and Gazelle's price point, especially since we bought it in 2019 before the world went to hell.

The wife and I use a Oztent RV4 I picked up used a two inexpensive cots. Dogs sleep under the cots everyone gets a good night sleep. Takes a bit longer to setup but not terrible.

Very good review. After a long time I literally just pulled the trigger on the KR oversized tent cot. Hoping to make car camping a tad more enjoyable, as well as lessening the amount of time spent in hotels while traveling for work.

Thanks for a good honest review of the Kamp-rite. I'm also seeing the "new" wearing off of a lot of roof top tents.

One of the best Kamp rite reviews on the tubes! Great breakdown. Just picked one up myself for solo camping in the PNW great set up as you said condensation is killer when using the rain fly. Still figuring it out myself. Would love to see an “expedition” model as you called it. Even if priced near an rtt I love not having to throw it in the roof and easier to put away. Another option for solo campers is the Teton sports instant tent with cot set up.

Great review of the Kamp-rite. Respect the honesty. I still love my Oztent. Just spent another week overloading in Utah and Colorado and it is a great 4 season tent - still the fastest setup on the market.

Great review Matt. This is the first time I’ve seen you. You did a great job with your video. You have talent speaking and being on camera. Good work! I have a couple of these tents. My girlfriend lives in Brasil and can’t get a visa so I let my 2 dogs sleep on her side. They love it. They usually freak out in the middle of the night protecting me. I never know if they are barking at a Grizzly or a chipmunk. One of them caught a coyote and was going to kill it but we saved it and it bit my son’s hand. I had him get rabies shots.

Since you're already separated by the centerline pole anyway, it seems like you could put two Kakadu Blockout cot tents side by side and have a truly rugged option that better addresses the complaints you have. Plus some room for your awesome camp dog. Just a thought.

If you used an oversized air mattress could a person sleep across the middle of the cot?
@MattKester
@MattKester 8 ай бұрын
I doubt it, that bar is really pronounced, plus the height of the air mattress would reduce the interior height of the tent, making getting in and out and sitting up really difficult.

Good review. I have the Kamp-Rite tent cot XL (basically the single version of this product). My biggest gripe is that unless you have the doors/windows fully open and a nice breeze outside, you are going to get a lot of interior condensation. I've NEVER used the 'rain fly' simply because the space is already too hot for summer and warm spring camping, and when its cool or cold, the internal space is perhaps not ventilated enough to maintain proper oxygen levels (obviously the double tent may have better ventilation with respect to this). I agree that Kamp-Rite needs to take this to another level with better ventilation (especially at the peak). Perhaps also add something like a "bimini top" over the two fiberglass poles that support the roof of the tent. In this way, and roof vent would be protected from wet weather. And since with the single version, I only used one door, I think there must be a way to anchor poles on my exit door side, and then anchor a tarp on the opposite side, and run that tarp up and over the tent-cot to create an overhang that a person could stand up under when they exit the cot into poor weather conditions. BTW- Mine did not come with any sort of mattress. But I do use my Therm-a-rest Basecamp mattress inside it. That works quite well, even though the cot somewhat sags in the middle more than traditional cots would.

I think if you're looking for absolute ease of setup and transport, the tent cot is the way to go. If you're looking for maximum comfort, cot in a traditional tent.

You should compare it with the Teton Vista 2. It has much higher headroom, no center bar, taught canvas cots, built-in pop-up frame, very well built.

I’ve had 4 different tent cots, one l did not like at all and returned it. Agree totally with you about the Kamp-Rite. Most modern tents have mesh roofs, the K-R design is simply outdated, causing warm weather camping to be problematic. My only other gripe is with all the openings (12 ! counting the fly). l find the loop and barrel tie backs a bit awkward, they should use velcro. The placement of the tie backs on the side entrances are also poorly positioned, causing the door openings to droop way down, which l find to be a needless nuisance.

If you wanna know how to stop the consensation problem and the camp right it’s easy go to Walmart buy the waterproof Scotchgard spray and spray the inside and the outside of the fabric let it dry for at least 24 hours and then you will not have any more problems with the condensation are used to be homeless for six years and I’ve had two of these and with the issue that’s also a pretty easy fix I built and invested in a upgrade by putting straps that I personally made underneath the tent cot to brace it up so that it’s not so saggy now I’m a single person and it was just me but I never had any issues as a matter fact I’m watching your video because I’m fixing to buy another one I currently live in a hotel where it cost way too much so I am necessarily going camping for about a month or two because I’m tired of dealing with the stressful situations but the point I wanted to make is by the Scotchgard spray the inside and outside soak it down let it dry and you won’t have that problem anymore

The lack of proper ventilation when using a rainfly is just lazy engineering and inexcusable. Ventilation always needs to be a top priority in my book. The fact that after many years they have still not addressed this is discouraging.

In my (limited) experience, rooftop tents are a total pain and too expensive fir what they are. It seems just like the rooftop baskets it’s more of a thing for show. Everyone feels they need one. You m in a resort area and I see so many (along with the sprinter type vans) at Airbnb’s and not camping. The “off road” crowd is a funny lit which apparently has money to burn Cheers
