Because lots of guys get compounds (not all of course) because they get into hunting to "prove themselves" instead of just hunting. They want something they can draw back themselves without actually going through the difficulties of a bare-bow recurve. Then when they eat deer tag soup every year they blame the tool instead of their lack of ability as a hunter, they then lash out at anyone using a better tool.

On the other hand, maybe the compound archer can shoot through the hay bale to hit the target. I've seen enough of those arrows fly straight through hay bales and still travel a good distance. I still like my modern longbow though. I've tried compound, and it's just not the same satisfying smooth draw feeling. A compound bow feels so much more like a gun after a while. And while I am also a bit of a gun nut, when I'm doing archery, I want it to feel like archery. I don't want my archery to feel like a gun. It's also why I probably won't get into crossbows much. They're definitely cool, but way down on my list. That being said, I'm not sure I'd mind too much if my gun felt more like archery. Not sure why. Also, not sure how that would work AT ALL. Just a funny thought.

on our small 3d circuit here in BC I'm always surprised by what makes compounders mad in a shot. Usually it's that little branch or leaf that blocks the perfect view of the shot. And yes there will always be someone to be offended by something we do. Whether it's shooting plastic targets, or pieces breaking off a target and not being cleaned up, cutting a tree to make a bow or an arrow, what our non wood arrows are made of, using feathers from birds, using polycarbonic based vanes when we could use feathers, the list could go on, and on. Just wish the people that read the complaints had the wisdom to be able to say , nope sorry you are just to sensitive .

Clay...I just passed your name and channel on to a friend of mine who wants to delve into the traditional archery challenge. I got my first re curve bow when I was 8 years old..and was introduced to archery deer hunting at age 13. At age 17, I killed a buck on October 18, 1984 with a wooden compound bow made by Mike Fedorah...I was the first in my family to enjoy the sport of archery and archery hunting...since that time...my brother, his son, my son, 2 cousins, and their sons, and many friends have started archery hunting because I introduced them to the sport. I took on the challenge of traditional archery the year my son turned 12... that was14 seasons ago and never looked back. I absolutely love the simplistic challenge. I will continue to hunt with my 65# Martin re curve as long as my body will endure the chore of drawing my bow on cold November mornings...feet and hands freezing on an aluminum platform 18' above Mother Earths surface. I like shooting all bows, even cross bows and compounds when I have the chance, and I enjoy watching a skilled compound shooter dial in their gear since those arrows just fly so hard! But I wouldn’t wanna own one since I’d never use it. Longbow is my love, but I really enjoy recurves for their speed and beauty. What always gets me is when I see a couple guys w a tool belt and a big ol stabilized compound bow complaining about a 5” group at 50 yards… spending more time fiddling w sights and what not instead of just adjusting and paying attention to their bodies and breathing. Focusing on the result and not the process will usually give you a bad result. That’s why I love to sink one into a piece of foam at 60yd w a recurve in front of those types of archers, not to brag, but just to show it is indeed possible if you are aware of yourself and your bow and your arrow. To me, a near miss is as exciting as the hit, and gives the opportunity to learn from each shot. It is satisfying to shoot center shots all day, but it’s also maybe more fun to overcome a shot problem by re setting the body to perform it properly. Bottom line for me is: archery and hunting is a hobby, meditation, and pursuit of self. That animal is a representation of the self, and to attain it I must become aware and focused on everything in the moment at once. The whole year of work and practice and tuning and learning comes down to a moment.. so for me trad bow is something that serves an end in many ways and will always present an opportunity to learn instead of show up to the range, shoot a few dozen arrows and fiddle my sight or whatever and then call it good til deer season starts. I need something to do, and like anything else, if you do it enough then it you become very good at it

1. Recurve can reload much faster than a compound. 2. Recurve is much easier to maintain. 3. Recurve is way cheaper compare to compound. 4. You don't need all those dangling equipment in recurve. 5. Recurve were meant for mounted archery, try that with a compound.' The only thing compound is better at recurve is the precision over "long" distance, within 20 yards recurve can just be as accurate.

Having shot both recurve and compound bows, I would say the other shot that is not readily made with a compound is a quick shot that requires a draw and release in a single movement. I haven't shot any new (last 20 years) compound design either but, I was never able to draw and shoot without pausing to let everything stabilize after the break over.

I agree that a traditional or recurve is a lot quicker to aim because it's instinctive, but if you have your arrow nocked and your release attached, you can be lined up and fire very quickly. I noticed this after I installed a kisser button on my compound bow. I just pop up aligned pretty much instantly.
@johnmadden66565 жыл бұрын
@@triela420 I shot my compounds instinctive (mostly, I have shot sights). But I always had to settle the bow after the break where a recurve is just once smooth movement. And I have seen people that could bird hunt with a compound so, maybe it's just me.

A highlight of why using any certain equipment (that's legal of course) isn't cheating or "not real hunting". People these days seem to want you to run down a deer and bare knuckle box it. It doesn't matter how good you are with any equipment, if you don't know how to actually *hunt* then you wont see a damn thing. A recurve, or ANY trad bow, beats compounds - in rate of fire. You can load and fire trad bows multiple times for every shot of a compound.
@vaportrail2265 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure this is true. It's basically the same thing, right? Nock an arrow, draw, release. Maybe I'm missing something
@BooDamnHoo5 жыл бұрын
@@vaportrail226 Compounds have fairly complex arrow rests but the the real kicker is the annoying release. Most have d-loops but even those without d-loops are the same: hooking a release device to the string, drawing back and having to pause to get the sight picture all lined up, then release. On a traditional bow you quickly set your arrow, draw with fingers and just release. It's a much faster process. I'd bet even a moderately skilled trad bow shooter can load and fire 3 to 4 arrows with good accuracy in the amount of time a compound shooter can fire 1. I have a compound and bare bow traditional shooting off the shelf and I prefer my recurve to my compound, even though the compound is more powerful and capable of higher accuracy. On my compound I have to thread the arrow on carefully vs my bare bow, hook a release device to the string, draw, pause and line up my shot, etc. My trad bow is much faster. String an arrow, finger draw, fast sight picture and fire. Easy peasy.
@vaportrail2265 жыл бұрын
@@BooDamnHoo Those are good points. At my archery club we have races where we shoot balloons and the fastest time wins. Generally comes down to skill. I use a WB on most of my compounds which isn't too complex. Several of our compound shooters shoot instinctive and draw three fingers. Personally I'm faster with my horse bow using thumb draw but I still lose to compound sometimes. And I have beat barebow recurve shooters using a trigger release with my hunting rig, usually when they miss a lot. I'd say a highly skilled trad shooter will have the most effective rate of fire. If that makes any sense? Just my experience.
@BooDamnHoo5 жыл бұрын
@@vaportrail226 Seriously interested, what modern compounds are able to be shot by finger draw? I have an old one that doesn't have super shallow cams so it's unlikely I will derail it AND it has a 40 inch span so the angle on the drawn string isn't too much to allow 3 finger but from what I've seen or read, virtually all modern compounds have one, or both, problems (shallow cams, short/compact span)

Why don’t you learn then?? It’s addicting. Just don’t get caught up in the “oh my bow is $1000 so I’m better than you” stuff. It’s a shame that hunting is so commercialized. That’s just my two cents though.

I'm flagging this video - that hay-bale reminded me of a dog I once had; this is highly offensive and insensitive. Quick, I need my safe space NOW!

Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine kzbin.infoUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older.But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.
