Love KN air filters have used them on everything I have owned for years work great. Not sure I would recommend one for the CVT intake, being that the KN is a oiled air filter wouldn't take the risk of any residue contaminating my CVT belt or clutch faces.

that filter has oil on it. It is not any oil, it is a Gooey Oil that keeps particles stuck to the surface rather than allowing them to be ingested into the engine. The problem with oiled filters is, they leave deposits on airflow sensors. oiled filters were fine when we just had carburetors, but with sophisticated fuel injection systems, they are not recommended. In fact, Honda puts it in their owners manuals to not use oiled filters. I read this in my Honda GL 1800 manual..

Honda also tells you that the only filter you should use is their recommended filter which means you're putting money back in their pocket.... K&N stands behind their product pretty well and they sell millions of them around the world constantly with great success.. also proven horsepower numbers on the dyno as well.. I've been tuning motorcycles for over 15 years and I have not seen a single one of those motorcycles damaged from running a k&N high flow air filter that has been oiled properly... until I see actual results showing that it can actually damage something or actually has damaged something without a manufacturer like Honda saying so "because of their hidden research that the public can't know about or see video footage of" I will continue to recommend the k&N high flow air filter.. I literally have one on every single vehicle that I've ever owned... I've tuned tons of motorcycles including the Can-Am ryker with the k&N high flow air filter and never seen a single issue... furthermore a lot of people say that you can't use it on the other side of the bike where the CVT transmission is... Well that makes no sense either.. the CVT transmission belt spins at a very high rate of speed and generates a lot of heat it would whip any drops of oil right off of it instantly.. after 3000 miles of running this filter on the CVT transmission side we took the transmission cover apart to inspect the belt.. not a single sign of any oil or residue or anything.. obviously it won't improve horsepower or anything crazy the benefit would be that you'd never have to buy another filter... When we're talking about the CVT transmission side of this bike that is literally the only benefit of running a k&N filter... As far as the air intake side you can pick up around three horsepower or so.. when you break down the math compared to other products out there even if it only gave you three extra horsepower you're only paying $40 that's extremely cheap to pay when you break it down to what one horsepower cost.... Without seeing any side effects of it yet I have a tough time voting against it... remember every manufacturer out there is going to recommend that you run their filter that was intended for that vehicle... You might ask yourself why and I have the answer for you... You are now a returning customer putting money in their pockets and lining their bank account... Remember pretty much every manufacturer out there not to mention the dealerships out there make 80% off of their profits off of parts and services... The big profit doesn't come from you purchasing the vehicle.. the big profit comes from knowing that you're going to be a returning customer for a very long time for parts and services.. purchasing the vehicle is a one-time profit coming back over and over again to purchase their products and have your bike serviced by them is in some cases a 7-10-year profit... That's why I have always worked on my own vehicles I don't pay for an extended warranty and I have zero intentions on taking it back to the dealership if anything breaks.. I don't plan on giving a dealership, a service center, or a manufacturer one more Penny of my money other than the cost of that bike.... People like myself are the reason that companies like Honda or any other company makes a statement saying you have to run our parts... Those big companies do not like losing money...

@@BLRTUNING I was a motorcycle mechanic at four different dealerships. I actually worked beside Eric Buell in a Honda/Yamaha service department of a dealership in the 70s, back when there was a free lunch to be had by modifying exhaust systems and removing air boxes.. I also worked part time in the 80s & 90s. when changing the airbox and mufflers made your motorcycle harder to start, and made it slower. One shop I worked in in the 90s part time made customers sign two copies of a notice, that said we will do the work of changing your carburetors with a Dynojet kit that would be necessary for the motorcycle to run correctly because you’re changing the mufflers. We will do the work, but we are not responsible for the way the motorcycle runs. people would have their Suzuki intruder‘s mufflers changed to slip on mufflers to make noise, and the bikes would hesitate and stall..It would lose what is known as drivability.. kids would bring in their GSXR 600s and their CBR 600 Hondas and they would buy a new exhaust system, and the bike would be louder, but much slower. I was there and saw it happen. I still have the motorcyclist magazine issue where they tested 11 different exhaust systems on four of the current at the time 600 sport bikes. Not one of them made more power, and the average horse power loss was 7 hp. One of the machines actually lost 11 hp with one of the exhaust systems.You cannot get a free lunch anymore by changing the exhaust system or the intake. Leave it alone. The factory knows more than you do these days. Your engine tuning Is tuned from 1 foot before the intake horn on your airbox, to 3 feet beyond the end of exhaust pipe..They tune your engine for the average altitude you will be at and the average temperature, The average weight to be carried, and the average rpm just as the transmission ratios are matched to the width of the power band average. They even have to take into consideration methanol in the fuel which is corrosive to some plastics. The motorcycle modification engine specialists called fours and more in Florida recommended using the standard airbox, and not using individual air cleaners like that K and N air filters on my FJ 1200. The reason. The standard air box on an FJ 1200 gave about 6 hp more than no air cleaners at all because you lost something called velocity stack effect without the standard airbox. I had a Honda Pacific coast from 1994 until I sold it in 2020. i used it for commuting five or six days a week at my regular job, 28 mile round-trip, rain or shine. I used a standard air filter replacement K and N air filter in that machine for 24 of those years.. The same filter, all those years. I just cleaned it every year and used the gooey k& n air filter oil on the filter after cleaning it with solvent once a year. No problem because, there were no sensors to be fowled by the oil.. don’t believe me, if you’re that passionate about them, read about it in any Honda motorcycle owners manual. They specifically tell you not to put additives in your oil, and do not use an oiled air filter. Those are the only two warnings other than safety warnings I could find in my owners manual. if you’re concerned about the cost I agree the standard Honda air filters cost about three times what a aftermarket air filter goes for. My GL 1800 air filter is about $45, I was able to find paper air filters on eBay for $18 free shipping. I was going to put a K and N filter in my gold wing until I read the warning in the owners manual.. I learned years ago that the factory knows more than I do. When I started listening to the factory when I road raced motorcycles.. I won six road racing championships, and I was two time national champion AMA, and WERA organizations. Because I left the machine alone and learned how to ride, I didn’t experiment with aftermarket things.. I didnt have to experiment, And I have learned to go by the factory recommendations on everything from spark plugs, to tire sizes, To piston clearance, to ring end gap, to Numbers of miles to replace the crankshaft. I did all my own work, the only work I could not do was cylinder boring.. you can go ahead and promote any aftermarket accessory you want, I am just repeating what it says in the Honda owners manual. No oiled air filters. Have a nice day

I do have video footage and draggy GPS data, and drag strip Time slips showing that aftermarket parts and custom tuning can be a very beneficial and make more horsepower and more torque... These bikes along with all of the newer bikes on the market regardless of the brand are extremely held back from the manufacturer. Remember these bikes have to sell on a global scale they're not worried about pleasing one specific individual they're worried about pleasing an entire globe... They have to meet emissions laws around the world, they need the bike to get the optimal gas mileage, they also have to meet insurance regulations and not fall under a sportbike category so they appeal to the masses... Through a restrictive exhaust system, a restrictive intake system, and tuning work the manufacturer is able to control the emissions and the air to fuel ratio. we showed on the dyno just by getting rid of the exhaust and switching it for a opened exhaust, and getting rid of the air box completely and switching it for a more open air intake system with a high-flow filter you could pick up 14 horsepower... Considering the bike only has 67 horsepower from the factory at the back wheel that's a tremendous number.. now when you stack a custom tune and recalibrate the ve tables the ignition timing and the air to fuel ratio, add in maximum torque and maximum load settings and remove the top speed limit built into the ECU you are talking a serious number when it comes to the horsepower and torque improvements... I'm not here to argue with you you can believe whatever you want to believe it doesn't matter to me. What I am here to tell you is if switching out the exhaust the intake and doing a custom tune didn't make more power and show things at the drag strip, and on the dyno motorcycle tuners like myself would have been out of business a long time ago... I wish you were here locally in the Vancouver Washington area I would be more than willing to let you take my Can-Am ryker out for a spin... of course they're not the fastest thing in the world they were never meant to be. Obviously it doesn't compare to any sport bike out on the road however next to a stock 900 Ace it will blow the doors off from the takeoff at the starting line and that stock 900 Ace will never catch back up... I have proven it multiple times and so have many of the customers Can-Am rykers that I have tuned... Did you know that just by retuning a motorcycle and doing a custom tune even on a stock bike makes way more horsepower than it came from the factory... Of course the thing to remember here is on average tuning the bike and making more power usually means making less gas mileage... As the saying goes you have to pay to play... anyways I respect your opinions and what not it was great speaking with you. I mean zero disrespect whatsoever. I tune motorcycles for a living this is what I've done for a very long time.... Literally what I sell is horsepower and how I get there is modifying the bike... If what I did didn't work I would be out of business... The fact of the matter is you cannot have a customer bring you their bike and you tell them I'm going to put an exhaust and intake on it for you and then I'm going to custom tune the bike to meet those modifications.. give them their bike back and have it make less power than when they brought it to you.. in a business sense that simply would not work the idea of it is not even feasible. It would be impossible to manipulate or lie to a customer like that and have them 100% believe in you... I truly stand behind my work and if the customer isn't happy I'm not happy.... In the world of things that I do I let the customer know right from the beginning,, when we are done your bike will not be the same. It will make more power it will make more torque it will be faster off the takeoff and it will probably pick up a few more per hour on the top end... If it does not then bring it back and we will put it back to stock and refund your money..... In 15 years I have never refunded anyone anything (I've never had to) and I have never had a single customer complaint (NOT ONE)..... Anyways with that being said I completely understand that modifying a motorcycle especially a newer one that is under warranty is not everybody's cup of tea... there is tons of people out there that will not modify their bike and we'll leave it completely stock.. there is nothing wrong with that... Like I said earlier if you want the bike to make more horsepower and more torque you have to pay to play... I completely respect your opinion and understand that everything I'm saying here is all based on my own personal experiences in 15 plus years of doing this..... If someone else out there in the world has had different experiences then they are going to be talking about something different than what I'm talking about and their opinion is also going to be different.... I completely respect that... I hope you have a wonderful day it was great talking with you...

@@Jodyrides I would also like to add something else on the original topic of the k&N high flow air filter having a little bit of oil on it... did you know that if you take a look at the airbox placement you will see a hose coming from the top of the motor going straight to the airbox.. that hose is your PCV,,, positive crankcase ventilation... It feeds moisture, unspent fuel, and oil back into the airbox. IT IS A VERY NASTY MIX THAT A CATCH CAN WILL SHOW JUST WHAT IT'S PUTTING BACK IN THE MOTOR ON TOP OF YOUR VALVES.. The airbox on this machine does not have any sensors plugged into it. (THIS CONTRADICTS YOUR ORIGINAL QUOTE SAYING A K&N FILTER WILL FOUL UP ANY SENSORS) All of that unspent fuel, moisture, and oil gets fed directly back into the intake of this machine. this is both on the 600 model and the 900cc model... I can assure you the little tiny bit of oil residue that may possibly come off of the k&N filter iS not going to do anything but get deposited right in there with unspent fuel, moisture, and oil coming from your PCV... If you are unfamiliar with where the sensors are on this bike and how to remove the airbox and whatnot and you'd like to understand more about how this airbox and factory intake system works. I do have a video showing the treal performance intake system install... We get rid of the airbox and all reminisces of the factory air intake system completely and replace it with a aluminum tube and a big open pod filter. There is no sensors to disconnect... Here's the link to that installation video it's a 35 minute video if you watch the entire thing you will have a complete understanding of how this intake system works versus the factory one and you will see that there is no sensors whatsoever that come in contact with any air before it gets spit back into the motor.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqLaiYCretmbY7c

Bill my 900 ace has 1900 miles on it so can I take the ome engine air filter and put it on the cvt air filter side? I’m putting on a k& n engine air filter on the left side
@BLRTUNING2 жыл бұрын
Yes that's what I would do. Your filters need changed every 6,000 miles so you can hang on to the one you're not using and then when the other one needs replaced you can replace it with the one that you just replaced with the k&n filter that's what I did

Yes prices on everything have gone up and it has affected us tremendously as a business. No business wants to raise their prices and potentially lose customers. Unfortunately we have had to raise prices on some items but on items that we manufacture even though our cost for supplies has gone up we have not raised prices.

I think this filter will let too much dust through and damage the engine
@BLRTUNING2 жыл бұрын
No that is absolutely incorrect. These filters have been around for a long time K&N has been in the business for many many years. This is a high flow filter designed to allow more air through therefore making more horsepower and torque. I run a K&N filter on every one of my vehicles and I've tuned more than 3,000 Can-Am rykers around the world tons of them use these filters and we have never seen any issues whatsoever.
@servantsoldier52072 жыл бұрын
No difference 🤔
@BLRTUNING2 жыл бұрын
The filters on both sides are exactly the same size. You will pick up more horsepower and torque by switching to a k&n high flow filter on the engine air intake side. Switching to a high flow filter on the CVT transmission side won't get you any more horsepower or torque but you will have a lifetime filter that you won't have to replace but you can just clean it every 6,000 miles
