A tip for cutting bolts place a nut on the part to be cut out of the way. When you remove the nut after cutting it restores the thread at the cut making the bolt easier to use. As to 5 months of refit that is nothing I think Project Atticus went 5 years before they were cruising properly. Even when you are in the water there will be more to do and of course it will be a constant task of maintenance and upgrades. However each task completed makes your lives safer and more comfortable. BTW repairing refairing and glassing your keels might be something to consider since it would stop further degradation and will definitely have to be done at some point.

Great work on this one. With those voids and bubbles, I found that you can keep going on that almost indefinitely, you just have to decide a point at which it will be ok for the future. and when you get work done like this on the injectors, remember, you are not just paying for the work in minutes you are paying for all the experience and knowledge that the guy has built up over many years, or at least that should be the way of it.

Adjustable spanners. Will always slip when you have to force the nut. Hence the busted finger. It could have been worse. They also round off bolt heads and nuts. A good set of ring and open ended spanners will save the gear and your fingers and knuckles for your Piano playing days.

Tip for cutting bolts...... if you have room, screw a nut onto the bolt and run it right up to the head past where you want to cut it, then do your cut, file off the burrs and unwind the nut. The nut will clean up the thread as you remove it making it easier to get the bolt started in it's new home. Hang on in there, you'll be on the water before you know it :)

The injector spill pipe. If it can be removed, clean the complete injector body and the spill pipe. Put the spill pipe in the freezer, or fridge. Place the injector body in a vise. Remove the spill pipe from the fridge, place it in the hole and give it a couple of sharp taps with a copper drift. If it won't come out of the hole, try as best as possible to follow the same procedure. It was originally annular riveted..

@@WildlingSailing I would say you got off lucky. Some resins wont set up if the ratios are wrong. They are all different, West is 6-1 and some 2-1 with brands in between. The chemistry is vastly different from polyester, The mix ratio adds enough bonding agents to the right amount of resin, too much or too little of either leaves excess in the pot that cant "mix" or bind. Imagine a dance floor with 10 woman and 20 blokes, you will get a 50% partnership, with the rest standing around doing nothing except getting in the way. Whatever is on the can, best follow it.

I made a page on my blog that explains the essentials to know about working with epoxy. I finished my boat (14m double hull canoe) in epoxy wood, and I'm scared when I see you using the epoxy. Properly preparing the surface is essential for perfect grip and good hold over time. The epoxy is really waterproof and does not allow water vapor to pass through, for example, I am concerned that the protection of the chainplates will retain moisture and cause them to rot faster than leaving them as is. The basic principle to remember is either we completely coat the room, or we put a lid on it, but never make a basin in which the water or humidity will remain and make everything rot. My blog page archiprog.blogspot.com/p/resine-epoxy.html

When you were testing the movement of the rudders I thought you sounded concerned with the fact the outside (of the turn) rudder turns less than the inside one. Don't worry this is normal on cats designed by Rod McAlpine Downey. It's called the Ackerman effect. The outer hull of the boat will follow a less tight circle than the inner one. It's supposed to reduce drag in a turn and on a car resistance through the tyres scrubbing on the road.

Impressed at your willingness to 'get stuck in,' both of you. You really do need to use proper spanners instead if the adjustable. They are OK in certain non critical situations, but I was taught never, never on an engine or any machine where access is tight. They are too clumsy, liable to slip and I've seen so many rounded nuts and blooded knuckles. If you can find them, there are spanners where the business end is hinged which is great for difficult to reach places. I loved Nadiyana's performance on the piano. I would love to see you use her playing to end your videos. It is so soothing.

Fancy using a bloody adjustable spanner on injector pipe nuts! Blimey, Mark! Anyway, 150 euros for setting those injectors up sounds fine - particularly as they look like they were shimmed. If you'd used an injector socket you wouldn't have buggered the leak off nipple, have you tried giving it a couple of firm taps down? Glad you had them set up, I'm sure you could have done it yourself, but you'd probably have been poncing about for ages! Can't wait for the splash! I was going to go out on my old tub tomorrow but, after all this fine weather, it's going to chuck it down. Much love from the Forest of Dean.

It might not seem like much now but if it’s the cause of a persistent fuel leak at sea, a fire danger and something you rely on for tacking then get the motor bulletproof. I think you did the right thing in paying to have those injectors fully restored. Looking good.

Impervious to oil and fuel. Clean the surface well, mix according to instructions and let cure the correct length of time. I would stick with the original formulation of the product. Good luck..

The song was great! From the USA if you could play a few notes of Born to Run…much appreciated! It’s true your both breaking down barriers and doing it all yourself. Your blessed to have each other. Love your videos on Friday! Blessings and best prayers!

You 2 are crazy in a positive way. You have taken on this project and so many would not. You will end up with a nice boat / home just because you did what others would not. Just keep doing your thing the way you think is right for you, because it is right for you. You will make mistakes, we all do. You will have bad days, we all do. We will not all have a nice boat though )))))))) + the adventures.

Use a nut as a guide and to help the threading after the cut instead of tape on the bolts. Loosening the nut off the cut bolt should re-establish, or help anyway, the end threading, especially if removed quickly while bolt is still warm.

Always have a nut screwed onto the bolt before cutting down, once you screw off the nut after cutting it will make sure the threads at the end are smooth and not crossed in anyway. Helps the bolts thread in and out easily without any problems

Hey Nadiana, I saw on sailing UMA when they were fitting their door locks they glue them in place first to get them lined up perfectly, this allows them to drill holes and insert screws perfectly as well and makes it easier to get the best possible fit :)

A trick for when cutting bolts, put the nut on first all the way on. Make your cut. Then unscrew the nut and it'll straighten out any metal burrs etc

On the fuel return pipes; I suggest you clamp them on to prevent the possibility one comes adrift and lets fuel run into the engine bilge area. Easiest way to do this is to clamp them with a twist of wire or get correct miniature screw clamps. Just make sure you use something for peace of mind.

Hey you Two, great job so far. Loved the piano playing. Just a tip if you don't mind, I find myself cringing every time the shifter gets dragged out when the correct sized spanner is so much better for your pinkies and also the bolt or nut. I realise you most likely do this and use the shifting wrench only when the camera is out :) Your boat has so much character. Cheers Guys.

Nadiyana, my mom sold the piano after what she thought was my sister. But, was me. 😕 As for Mark, those cheap paint bushes can be re-used! We just cut them off, making them stir sticks. As for the Crecent/Adjustable wrench, known as 'knuckle busters' they have a new aka thanks to you. Now known as fingernail busters! 😲 Ups & Downs are normal. You both are getting there, keep smiling 😃

Good job guys, the injectors have a copper washer at the bottom that gets hard when compressed if you got new ones change them or take them out put on the fire till red to re soften them, the return pipes can be drilled out and replaced by a copper pipe and some JB weld good luck

Congrats. The boat is coming along beautifully. Re: 150 Euro for the injectors labor, that is $175.00 US , which is not even 1.5 hours of labor. A bargain to have them done professionally, and look how well the engine runs.... ! I don't recall if you have done this already, but I strongly recommend you re-pack the two prop shaft packing glands, before you go in the water. Nothing worse than finding they leak after you just put in and have to have them hoist the boat out again. After years on the hard, the packing material will have decomposed. Be sure to do it now. Lots of videos on how to do it, just get the right size packing gland material. I find the traditional cheap stuff is just as good as the fancy Teflon stuff, so I recommend you go regular material.

If I remember right, the prop shafts have those volvo "dripless" (yes, in quotes, because they do drip sometimes) rubber seals on it, they oughta be okay for a season still.

Before you hacksaw through a bolt or threaded bar try putting a nut on it first. It gives you something to rest the blade against and also sorts out any burrs on the thread when you back the nut of. Try it.

Yes there is a slow setting epoxy designed for hot locations. The slow set gives you working time and that is what you need on hot days.

@@WildlingSailing no big deal just as long as you do not use slow set epoxies below a recommended temperature which is use about 60F. That these temps the cure takes just too long. And if followed by a cooler night well the process even slows more.
