I always assumed the chevrons lighting up on the other world was started after all chevrons on the dialling planet had been pressed, sort of like a counter or to let people know on the receiving end that there was an inbound traveller so they didn't stand in its way as the wormhole whooshes out.

I would say the same, we do know that in some episodes they are counting the time it takes for an object to be passed through, so it might make sense that if you dial in that timeframe, the address in the Stargate system is already known.

16:30 Idk, that could be kind of interesting if the first chevron lit up on 500 planets, and each additional chevron the list shrunk. Could be a plot device in a future episode. Imagine knowing the enemy is after you, and you know there are 3 planets with the same first 5 chevrons, and so you're panicking that you've been found. And then the sigh of relief when it shuts off after 5... or the opposite!

The gate lighting up on the other end is easy to answer. It's a visual trick for filming. It's not actually happening at the same time. The dialing gate starts and loads up to the 6th chevron, which indicates the gate being dialed. You can see this effect in show as the gate chevrons at the destination light up quickly. Then the dialing gate locks the 7th, and the wormhole forms. So, it's not actually happening at the same time, it's just the cuts in the show. But yes, you can see it in the show.
@Naddel_
@Naddel_ 2 жыл бұрын
so there has to be a delay between the sixth chevron encoding and the seventh chevron locking for all the chevrons lighting up on the receiving gate, right? also, if chevrons can be lit up on the receiving end without an event horizon forming, why did they not use this for fast and safe communication? All of this has bugged me from the start. My idea of this concept is, that the receiving gate never lights up the chevrons one after another, but that they all jump to life when the sixth chevron is dialed and the event horizon forms when the seventh chevron is locked.
@summoner2100
@summoner2100 2 жыл бұрын
@@Naddel_ yep, there is. Which is the basic of what they say at the start SG1. Six points in space, and all that. The 6th Chevron "hits" and the receiving gate knows there's a wormhole, so acts appropriately. That's why you do see the receiving gate in some episodes light up pretty quickly. It's all the way they edit the show as well, because you don't want to take up the time you don't have in the episode. From memory, there is one or two where they all light at once.
@summoner2100
@summoner2100 2 жыл бұрын
@@Naddel_ There isn't a wormhole initiated until the 7th chevron, so the chevrons lighting up doesn't do anything with regards to communication. It's just an indicated of activity.

I interpret the Tollan phasing question as being answered pretty easily. The person phases through only the matter in front of them. So it doesn't take the floor out of phase at all, both the person and the object are out of phase with each other, but only that. So like, some sort of geometry solution.

Official answer for second to last question "why doesn't the iris get kawooshed?" In the SG-1 episode A Hundred Days (S3 E17), Jack is stuck on a planet after an asteroid impacts near the active stargate forming a kind of molten naquadah iris on the other side. Carter specifically says that they need to create enough space between the rock and event horizon to allow the unstable vortex to expand. There are also some clips with the Atlantis gate shield active when a wormhole forms that shows what happens to the kawoosh when it is contained.
@shadoman7682
@shadoman7682 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I remember that and also where the gate was buried with the cover stones for thousands of years in Egypt to prevent a wormhole being formed. I think it was just a plot hole for that episode. I'm not 100% sure but I think the Iris needed to be with 1/1000 inch of the gate or something like that.
@TheGigashadow
@TheGigashadow 2 жыл бұрын
Carter specifically stated that because the gate was active during the impact and this is what prevented it from being "buried" due to the event horizon causing the super heated plasma to harden far enough away from the gate (further away than the Earth iris), allowing them to re-establish a connection which then created the space that the unstable wormhole dug out.
@10thdoctor15

@@TheGigashadow It doesn't have to be further than the iris, just not 'buried' as with the cover stones, just enough to allow the gate to open so they heat the rock (like Sokar did to the iris) and redial to disintegrate the rocks.

On question "What happens if you enter a gate connected to every other gate in the galaxy?"... The show originally stated that the wormhole was an Einstein-Rosen bridge between the source and destination gates. That should allow matter to travel either way, which was a constant problem where the show portrayed it as a one-way system. Later on, specifically where Teal'c, Tealc was caught in the gate's buffer. It was further explained that matter was encoded on one side, the data was sent to the second gate, and the second gate decoded the transmission. Teal'c was caught in that buffer. [SG-15:14 "48 Hours"] RF still takes time to send. Crossing the galaxy would still take 100,000 years. A wormhole would let that data transmit almost instantly, as the two ends are feet away from each other. It is theorized that such a wormhole would be a very hazardous place. Possibly so hazardous that people couldn't just walk through it. That would also explain the opaque event horizon. That shouldn't exist with a wormhole. But it would exist if it were the separation between the hazardous wormhole, and the relatively safe normal space. That would still allow for all the cool wooshy stuff, and the tremendous energy requirements. It could also explain why RF in all forms are able to pass bidirectionally. RF would be safe to pass through the hazardous wormhole. It's our fleshy bits that wouldn't do so well. The iris shield would also still work as shown. The gate reintegrates matter, and a micron thick slice of a human, or most other things, aren't going to work terribly well. It also allows for the black hole keeping the gate engaged, since there is a wormhole at the back end, we just can't see it. [SG-1 2:15 "A Matter of Time"] So, as such ... if matter were to have entered the gate [SG-1 8:17 "Reckoning Part 2"], it would have been encoded at the source gate, transmitted to all destination gates, and reintegrated there. Exactly the same way the particles of the beam were sent through all the gates.

@AurynTwo
@AurynTwo Жыл бұрын
@David Rapp I am sorry but you are wrong (and probably twice). Pegasus gates are blocked for 8 Chevrons addresses apart the Atlantis Earth connection so I don't see why they should be unlocked for a 9 Chevron address. What matter most, if you remember at the beginning of SGU, they had to input Earth Symbol as point of origin even if they wasn't on Earth (that's why they could not dial it before Eli arrived). So that address is hard "coded" and sadly for you, Pegasus gates don't have Earth symbol on them.

Don't think the chevrons lighting up in sequence on the receiving gate is a problem. The gate network obviously has some kind of instant communication network beyond the wormholes since the chevrons light up before the wormhole has formed. But the wormhole has travel time, witch means there would be a time delay between the event horizons forming on the dialing and receiving end. That time delay is what is used to light up the chevrons. Meaning the full address is already dialed when the chevrons start lighting up on the receiving gate.

I believe it was in one of the Traveler episodes where Shepard found out that Ronan's gun was one of theirs. In the ep "Prodigy" when O'Neill is shot with a zat and runs to the gate the zat effect is wearing off when he gets to the gate, so there is a time limit on a single shot because the bugs start attacking him again. Here’s my three questions: 1) What happens if you enter a stargate wormhole from the wrong side? So rather than entering from the front, but from the back. I don’t recall seeing anyone try this in any of the series. 2) In Unending, Carter uses a matter converter to produce Oxygen, supplies, even a Cello. We also see from Ark of Truth that the Asgard computer can let users “describe” what they want to produce, and the computer will synthesise it, filling in any gaps in the code as needed. Could we use these technologies to produce our own ZPMs? If we could produce ZPMs onboard 304s, they would become virtually indestructible as their shields would never run out of power. 3) In Enemy at the Gate, we see the Wormhole Drive. It has huge power requirements and it’s very difficult to calculate jumps with it. Could this be used to reach the Destiny in an instant?

On 1: you literally can't. It's actually impossible. Basically, the "entry" side of a wormhole is a black hole and the "exit" side is a white hole. I think that if someone had stepped through the Dakaara stargate when it was connected to all other stargates, the system most likely would have spit that person out at a another random stargate, and going through any other stargate would always lead to Dakaara. I think it makes sense to imagine a single wormhole exiting Dakarra and branching out to every other gate in the network, and there are likely enough safeguards in the system that a person would just be spit out at a single other gate, probably the one with the shortest wormhole path?

I think I remember reading that Teal'c once said someone tried to go through the Stargate in reverse (I assume go through the event horizon of an incoming wormhole) and it was "most unpleasant". Energy would be able to pass through but would be split between all of the wormholes like water going down a pipe. Regarding the stargates lighting up prematurely - I always took it that this would happen once the gate was successfully dialed, and was merely part of the process on the receiving end. But I guess that doesn't track temporally, because the lock and kawoosh are so immediate after that on the dialing end, and it's canon that you can try to interrupt someone dialing in (even between two DHD gates, iirc). You wouldn't be able to kawoosh if the receiving gate already dialed out. Damn it, I want this to make sense in-universe, especially for using that for dramatic effect in the new RPG lol.

unless it took a few seconds for the wormhole to connect to the receiving gate. it starts at one end and travels to the other with a short delay
@erikkarlsson9192
@erikkarlsson9192 2 жыл бұрын
@@jasonharrison25 Well yeah this, is what I've always assumed. When the gate is dialed the chevrons on receiving gate lights up before the kawoosh. It does take several seconds for a wormhole to establish on the other side and to travel through it. It's a shame it's been a bit inconsistent how the stargate works. For example in early season they could receive information from GDOs before an incoming wormhole had been established. And it chevrons lighted up one by one, which I think is a big error. Chevrons shouldn't light up on the other gate when dialing, but there are several stargates starting with the same chevron and they're all towards the same direction, but how many chevrons would be needed to be pressed before receiving stargates start reacting? I suppose like when the second last chevron is pressed maybe, but last chevron is always the point of origin so then it seems you're dialing backwards. You start with the chevron representing the final destinstion and then dial back towards your own stargate. But that should mean like a bunch of stargates start lighting up, and there arent enough chevronns to represent all differentl possible starting locations so I'm thinking there must be some other variable, like the stargate adresses should be much longer and of varying lengths. Ok I've gone on a long enough tangent already. Anyway let me continue going on my tangent; going back to GDOs transmitting their codes before a wormhole has been established, during when the chevrons are lighting up, I'm thinking that when you press the dial button the wormhole starts travelling, but the dialing signal is sent out before the wormhole starts, i.e. when you start pressing buttons, so a subspace signal/message could be sent before wormhole establishes, this doesn't explain how the SGC can receive this signal before a wormhole has been established of course, and communication should have as long of a delay as the wormhole travel takes. But yeah this could explain how chevrons on receiving gate would start lighting up before the kawoosh, as the kawoosh on an outgoing gate forms the chevrons on possible receiving gates light up and maybe gates with different lengths for their adress won't light up then, so this way only the adress being dialed or a very select few would start lighting up.

Q#1: In Atlantis, can't remember the two episodes. In one the Atlantis team found the Aurora/Orion"??", the Alterran ship that had been floating for millions of years, but the crew was in stasis, & in a VR setting. But the second episode, was Midway"??", when Teal'c & the cool but squirrelly scientist, accidentally detected the Ancient ship that was traveling from Atlantis to Earth, using FTL. My question, Why was the Ancients from the FTL ship visibly younger than the Ancients from the Aurora? (Both events happened 10,000 of years ago, but the ones on the Aurora/Orion, were super old & even if they had left their stasis pods, they would have died of old age!) Q#2: McKay's Wormhole Drive. How does it work, were they able to rebuild or make a better version after it burnt out when Atlantis returned to Earth? And to leapfrog on "webduelist's question about ZPM+304 ship", could a 304 or some variant use an upgraded version of the Wormhole Drive to catch up to the Destiny, instead? (I know that McKay ended up using the dialing the device-linking-program, to get to & then through the Midway Gate. But either use one of the Gate Addresses that the Destiny crew had previously reported, when they submitted their reports from their missions. Or use the Wormhole Drive to get to the edge of the Galaxy, ZPM powered jump to get across the Void. Then rinse & repeat!)

Love the answer you gave! Maybe the chevrons of the Ori gates would be like a white bulb, like what the Priors have at the tip of their staff. Would it have "constellation symbols and a point of origin symbol" dialing system like the Ancient-made Stargates or a new dialing system all together is another question, or did the Ori make or modify a gate to connect to the Milkyway gate network. There are a lot of questions around Ori gates that I would love to see answered in the show, and that's one of the reasons I want the next series to be in the Ori home galaxy. There are a lot of possibilities for the story, like fallout for the people there losing their gods they had relied on for so long.

I get why it might be nice to have the old cast back, but I'd like to see something different. My favourite idea would be the Ancients pre-ascension. You'd still have people who looked human, and you could have the odd time-issue that propels them forward, or alternate universes, where we can meet our old favourites, but I think it would be interesting whilst still honouring canon. We could have them meeting the Asgard, Nox, Furlings, and maybe they would be different. Perhaps we could track them as they left their original galaxy fleeing and had to deal with a new galaxy and new races that may or may not be different today. It would be interesting to see early developments of things like ancient repository of knowledge's, or that fateful moment when the Asgard doomed themselves with cloning technology. Likewise why don't we see more AI remnants? Especially because we know AI existed on ships, perhaps there was some uprising or philosophical choice. You could also introduce new races we would never know about. For example, in the Deadalus Variations we meet an almost Borg like enemy, perhaps our alliance wiped them out in this Universe but that created a rift with the Nox that ultimately led to their Pacifism. Alternatively, maybe it was them who killed the Furlings. In general also, why did the alliance between the 4 great races fall apart? We get a few snippets from probably biased sources, but it would be great to see it happening. Possibilities seem endless, and you could still honour the cast and canon, do guest appearances, but create a whole new Stargate.

I always Imagined that if you walked through the "1 -> many gate event" you would've been splinched (old dnd term where you get cut in half by being halfway through a portal or teleportation spell) Energy could easily be propagated and duplicated much easier than matter. Especially with the Gates being "massive superconductors" I like to think that it's asymmetrical for gate dialing. once all 7 are encoded it's kind of like a phone ringing. First, it reaches out to make sure there's not already a connected gate, then it checks to make sure an Event horizon can form, and then the second gate kind of answers (like a call and response protocol), and the final answer protocol is its chevrons lighting up in slow order to indicate incoming wormhole and to get out of the way. Now its got me chewing on how stargate addresses actually work in comparison to actual phone switching as it's usually just an analogy. Because phone numbers the order matters 911 is always 911 you can't cal 191 and expect to get emergency services. but if each constellation is representative of spacial coordinates then it shouldn't matter what order the symbols are punched in as the math should solve out the same (sans the POO and we all know why they never abbreviated that term) I wonder how that affects the math on possible valid gate addresses. The thing I never understood was, why the "kawoosh" never ate the iris? or the part of the ground some gates were buried in? or the stair platforms they were placed on. ya know.

You actually made a very good point about the "dialling thousands of gates simultaneously" question. Now that I think about it, when you start dialing your stargate doesn't know which gate will be its destination. It can only know that when you've dialed the 6th chevron. Maybe the gate's "computer" would start initiating those "handshake" protocols then, even before you dial the 7th which we all know is constant for any particular originating gate. That initiation is what lights up the chevrons on the receiving gate. Then how fast you pressed/dialed each symbol from your end is also included in the handshake protocol. I don't know why any computer would include any delays made by its human operator, but hey receiving gates' chevrons light as fast as the plot needs to in that episode. Plus we know that even with an established connection, it takes several seconds for matter to travel through the wormhole. So I think that there would also be seconds of delay from the moment each chevron is locked to when the corresponding chevron on the receiving gate lights up. We just don't get to see that because TV/movies are always edited to save time. Again for the sake of the plot Q: A big question for me though is how does any SG team know the "point of origin" of any world they travel to? The 1994 movie highlighted that problem, but it disappeared during the series.

From a technical point of view on how some dialing programs work in real life, the gate could be storing the gate symbols in the crystal and begin causing the true destruction gate Chevrons to begin lighting up once the first five or six Chevrons on the dialing gate have been entered. This could be accountable as the gates are periodically updated with information regarding stellar drift calculations and and possibly dykstra type network mapping for the purposes of gate network communications. This would also help explain how the Dekara gate was able to dial all known gates simultaneously. As an old school Telco guy, I can see this as a known technology.

The problem is that we're not even sure whether the Expedition knows to ask the right questions. The main target for information in the atlantis database is other ancients who all lived for thousands or possibly millions of years, all of whom would be well-informed about anything going on. There's little indication that the expedition knows what to look for; after all the closest technology is the arcturus device from Trinity yet they didn't know anything about it until they got there. The ZPM machine may be hidden in some unsuspecting corner of the city or guarded by some secret mechanism that the expedition doesn't even know the right terminology for. It's very likely that it would be done by very senior Ancients who wouldn't need to keep many records. This also seems to be a popular method of secrecy for the ancients: it wasn't necessary to write it down.

About Baal's gate override, a person wouldn't be split apart if they were to go through the gate at that time. Radiowaves expand outward, once it's released, it will go everywhere until it gets absorbed by matter or degraded enough that it lost its energy. Matter does not expand outward, it wants to remain together. For that matter, Baal's gate override is not the same thing as a typical wormhole, because every wormhole entrance only connects to one wormhole exit. It is possible that this override only opens an electromagnetic wormhole, using the gates as platform. Essentially, they're making an antenna, instead of a door. What this means is, this makes only electromagnetic or radiowaves able to pass through the gates, and gets spread through the 'antennas'. Would a person be able to pass through in this mode? If we consider the failsafes, it's unlikely to do anything. They'd just be walking back and forth in front and back of the stargate since the event horizon doesn't transmit matter in this mode. I doubt it would be perfectly safe to do this, though, as it's similar to living under an electrical pylon, which is not at all safe.

I think in order for a gate to replicate people like a Star Trek transporter accident we would need the writers to more clearly establish the principle that the Stargate is actually converting matter into an energy pattern, transmitting it, and then reconstituting the energy pattern as matter on the other end -- i.e., that matter and energy are interchangeable (as in the Star Trek universe). IIRC to date that hasn't been spelled out in the Stargate universe. So in "48 Hours" Teal'c's "pattern" (to borrow a Trek term) effectively is stored in the buffer, but it's not decisively said that people traverse the gate's wormhole as a burst of energy without any physical form. Elsewhere there are indications that travelers do in fact have some sort of sensory experience while traversing the wormhole.

I think that probably the receiving gate is contacted to check that it can get a connection once all chevrons have been input into the DHD (as we see a few times in the show), then it is physically dialled, setting the coordinates for the wormhole, these then are seen on both gates as essentially a progress bar. I believe this fits with most of what we see in the show.
@GateWorldDotNet

I'm trying to think of an episode where it actually cuts back and forth between a dialing and receiving gate during the dialing sequence. Can anyone think of one? The challenge with your theory is how quickly the sending gate connects after a user inputs the final symbol and presses the center of the D.H.D. It only takes a couple of seconds for the connection to be established. It might work on other D.H.D.-connected gates where the inner track doesn't have to spin; but incoming wormholes at Stargate Command always show the track spinning through the whole dialing sequence, lighting up one chevron at a time, for a good 40 seconds or so. (This has even been a plot point in episodes like "Serpent's Song," where Carter had to hack a rapid-dialing program to try and beat Sokar's dialing in.)

On question "How does the receiving gate know it is being dialed?" I'm pretty sure that the dialing and receiving sequence is slightly out of order. The source starts dialing, and doesn't do anything until the final chevron. The encoding event horizon is activated. *THEN* The destination gate starts lighting up chevrons, as it spins up the wormhole. It just looks like they're happening at the same time in the show, because it would add a lot of screen time watching that minutiae. The same reason they don't show the entire 20 mile walk from the gate to the destination, or waiting for ATC to give a F302 permission to land.
@thundermane362
@thundermane362 2 жыл бұрын
The connection must be activated first before either gate's event horizon (and the swoosh) can form. Because we've seen countless times that: 1) you can interrupt an incoming connection, that is during the destination gate's chevrons lighting up, by dialing out 2) if interrupted, you on the encoding gate won't get an event horizon. You just get an 'error' sound/flash. So I agree with you that there is some delay that they are editing out. I just think that the event horizon on both gates form at the same time, and after the connection is established

On your question about putting a ZPM on a Daedalus class ship to get to Destiny, I've always imagined that they would discover the ZPM creation/recharge room on Atlantis and then be able to add maybe two or three ZPM's to a ship and then open up a wormhole like they did with Atlantis using McKay's wormhole drive to go straight to Destiny. This would allow them to take everything they'd need to do repairs to Destiny, and to also integrate the Asgard upgrades along with possibly integrating ZPM technology to Destiny itself in order to not only bring back the crew of Destiny, but to bring Destiny back as well using the wormhole drive again to get back to either the Pegasus galaxy, or back to the Milky Way. I'd do the same thing with the seed ship and bring it back as well, because then you can fully restore Destiny to make it the flagship of the SGC, and modify the seed ship for other uses, and then build a new galaxy type ship with all the technology integrated into it including the wormhole drive and go straight to the background noise source. I think that would be a very cool storyline that MGM could do, but that's just my opinion.

Super awesome video! So much fun to see what other fans are questioning. I do think I have a couple answer though. For the Tollan and their shoes, I think they phase what they’re walking through, not themselves, but there’s probably some signal coming from the wrist bands/remotes that still requires them to be worn/held in order to get through. Then there was a question about the corresponding gate chevrons lighting up. I don’t think this was something they just did to be “cool”, if you pay attention all 7 symbols are put into the device and then the big center button is pressed. AFTER the big red button is pressed, the gates start to dial, so yes, the incoming gate would know it had been dialed. Even on Earth, all the symbols are input to the computer Before it dials, Walter just announces as they Lock-in. I could be wrong, but this makes sense to me!

That receiving stargate chevrons lighting up question was something I noticed too. Maybe they just wanted the receiving gate to have a warning so the characters would have time to react, when in fact there would be little to no warning and the gate would just spontaneously activate out of the blue as soon as the last chevron was dialed on the other side. Though that'd be dangerous as the ka-woosh could happen at any moment so people would have to always stay well clear of the gate.

Here's how I think the chevron dailing situation could work. We don't know the time exact time delay between the gates. Editing may show us that they are occurring at the same time, but in reality the gate must be completed and then due to time delay it starts dailing after it connects the call. We know it does take time for the connection to be made and for information to go through the gate. It's not instantaneous.

Q1: How does point of origin works? Several times when somebody dialed gate from a ship over Earth it was explained as them "Using Earth as the point of origin" but it's not like the the symbol for Earth is on the alien DHD or Stargate that came with it's own unique symbol. I understand moving the gate from one planet to another the software of the gate can be updated to a new location but for example gate from Antarctica was shown to physically dial the same symbol as the one from Egypt while in use. Q2: Why Russia owns the Stargate in SGC? Gate got beamed to Beliskner that crushed into ocean. What gives Russia legal ownership of the gate based on them salvaging it? If ISS falls into my backyard is anything I can salvage from it now legally mine? Q3: How is Destiny traveling in between galaxies so easily? Goa'uld, Wraith and even some Asgard (Pegasus tribe) and Ancient hyperdrives are unable to travel from one galaxy to another and yet Destiny with it's pre-hyperspace technology makes it in between episodes like it's nothing. Why is Aurora, frontline battleship manufactured at the end of Alteran civilization, slower than Destiny, scientific project so unimportant they forgot about it, manufacted so early in their history its Stargate can only dial it's close neighbours and the whole design of the ship is completely different than anything else we've seen from them? It's like ancient greek boat outpacing Arleigh Burke-class destroyer.
@kataseiko
@kataseiko 2 жыл бұрын
For Q2: Salvage rights are quite specific. "The law of salvage is a principle of maritime law whereby any person who helps recover another person's ship or cargo in peril at sea is entitled to a reward commensurate with the value of the property salved. Danger needs to be real but not necessarily immediate or absolute. The subject of salvage must be in real danger, which means the property is exposed to damage or destruction. The burden of proof lies on the salvor." Q3: Before the invention of the digital camera, film was what you can call "Ultra HD". When digital cameras became "normal", the image quality became much lower for a while before it recovered to what it is today. Analog film from 1990 will still be superior in image quality when compared to your average "modern" 20 megapixel phone camera. It is likely that Destiny is the best that this pre-hyperspace FTL could do. But the ancients found that hyperspace is better because they wouldn't have to plot a course around a star or other obstacles that might be between the stars, like rogue planets and such. So hyperspace is slower but also less dangerous. And advancement of that technology stalled when hyperspace technology was "good enough" to fly between most star system in a matter of hours.

A single ZPM could be used as a power source to dial between galaxies. Could multiple ZPMs be used to dial Destiny? In regards to Asgard cellular degradation, couldn’t they have just uploaded their consciousness into computers or something? Surely they didn’t have to die. Or were they just tired of grasping at straws? How long can Jaffa live? Teal’c I believe is in his hundreds but in the last episode of SG-1 he’s aged decades. How much longer would Teal’c be around at this point or bratac for that matter? The Tolans were an incredibly advanced sect of humans. Although from what I remember the Asgard never reached out to them or seemed to know about them or vice versa. Why do you think that is? Why does everyone in the Milky Way speak English? I mean I imagine it would be a very daunting task to make up new languages for every episode but it feels almost that every single planet would speak English. Also there are some worlds where their writing seems foreign but they speak English. It just appears very inconsistent. Did the wraith and humans ever come to an understanding or were they still fighting after the events of Atlantis? We only see a handful of alien races in SG1 and SGA do you think there are more out there that just never made it on screen? And for the ones that did why do you think they never came back? Like the race that could make you think that you knew them or the race that could clap their hands and make you disappear. I wanted to see them all make a comeback but they all felt like one offs with no resolution. With the ancients that ascended do you think they now know what the signs of intelligence was at the beginning of the universe? And if they do, would that mean the Ori knew as well and gave that knowledge to the humans in the ori galaxy? Could a gate bridge be made between all the galaxies on destiny’s path to reach them? Did the ancients make the FTL drive first or the hyperspace drive? The reason why I ask is because I feel like it would be infinitely harder to create an FTL drive than a hyperspace or warp drive. Sorry for so many questions, I just started the stargate series a few months ago and finished it in July and all these questions (and more) have just been burning in my head.
@Pavel_M_Mihalik
@Pavel_M_Mihalik 2 жыл бұрын
It would be useless to make a gate bridge to Destiny, because you’d have to follow Destiny’s path with a ship stacked with gates to make the bridge. And because Destiny keeps moving further and further away, you’d have to keep adding new gates to the bridge. It would be easier to skip all that and just fly to Destiny with a ship. FTL is an older and much more primitive technology. Even after the Ancients invented hyperdrive, it wasn’t as advanced as the drive provided to humans by the Asgard.

The question relating to the stargates and chevrons lighting up when someone is dialing in. I have a theory to put forth. When the transmitting gate dials the address the receiving gate does not immediately start to light up the chevrons in tandem with the transmitting gate, rather the receiving gate starts to light the chevrons up as a form of handshake procedure to verify that it is indeed the intended gate to receive the signal and that various dialing protocols are being adhered to. The chevrons lighting up is to indicate that the process has been initiated and to inform those at the receiving gate to stand clear of the "Splash Zone" so as to avoid being disintegrated and to expect visitors. In the event that someone bypasses various dialing protocols to gain a lock, this would entail something that the receiving gate would be told to disregard and the check would be considered valid (hence a bypass) and still allow for a lock. It is also known that while travel through a gate is relatively fast, it is not actually instantaneous. So the receiving gate would be unlikely to instantly receive the data it is being dialed at the same time the transmitting gate is dialing it. The reasoning for the gates showing instantaneous locks is likely just a byproduct of the production process and pacing of the story rather than the mechanism of the gate itself. When you see the team(s) dial a gate, and then instantly jump through, it is likely that the gate knows the address is valid so it creates a stable event horizon and the wormhole is in transit to the receiving gate while the matter/energy that enters is placed into a buffer while the transmitting gate performs the handshake protocols. The order and timing of the matter/energy entering the event horizon is also stored, and then transmitted to the receiving gate in those specific intervals to maintain a seamless transition. This is also likely why a lot of the time the team(s) wait for a GDO code confirmation to verify that they 1) Won't go SPLAT on the iris/shield and 2) Daniel/McKay didn't dial the wrong address This has been my theory on this particular question, and what I think the answer might be. Thank you for reading.

I have another question for you at @GateWorld.. How plausible is it that one or more of the ancients who ascended caught up to Destiny just after they ascended and "watch" the ship ever since? It would help to explain the "miracle star system" - when Destiny left, the Ancients who built that world abandoned it as well. It explains how that place with citrus trees and other "warm-climate-fruits" would freeze over like that.
