Til Debt Do Us Part offers tough love solutions to those in financial crisis.
Single mom Tammy is 35 years old - and still spends her money like a spoiled teenager. When she runs out of cash, she turns to her parents to pay her monthly living expenses. Even Tammy’s 15 year old daughter knows her mom’s a mess when it comes to managing money. Gail shows Tammy the hard truths she has to face up to, including Tammy’s biggest fear - declaring personal bankruptcy.

When my first child was born my dad sat me down and one of the things he emphasised to me was the importance of telling a child NO. I never forgot that, and it served me well in all my years of parenting - a spoilt child, will bring you nothing but trouble and stress.

Children needs to learn about saving. Teens need to learn about investments, handling finances properly, budgeting. Kids of all ages above 2 yrs need to learn age appropriate chores. Things like putting toys away, making their bed, straightening their room, taking trash out, doing laundry, cooking, all forms of cleaning. Teens need to also learn basic car maintenance. Parents who give no lessons and have no expectations end with the adults who can't cook, do laundry, budget....

I had a friend who had a really good job and her husband was a truck driver. She called me crying because she didn't have any money for gas or to live on until pay day. I gave her $200. I found out she had a spending problem plus they had failed business debt. I went to see her and she had a charming house filled with a lot of junk. It was disorganized and not very clean though not awful. She took me out to see her chickens and she had a beautiful Amish chicken coop. She collected eggs and had a lot. She never offered me any eggs but talked about selling them. I figured out, I'd never help her again because it was all about her. They declared bankruptcy but God watched out for them. They needed a new pellet stove one winter or no heat. She called me and I prayed on the phone with her. Her husband got an unexpected check in the mail the next day and it covered the new stove with nothing left over. God is good!

My mom and stepdad were very poor and spent money irresponsibly ontop of it. They refused to provide me with info for fafsa for college, criticized me for ONLY working 40+ hours as a teen during school year. During summers i worked 3 jobs. Never taught me anything about money. Ive been single mom in highly contentious divorce (~100k in legal ive spent at this point) for 14yrs. My kiddos are 18+15 now. I try and give them as much education as i can about budgeting, saving, how credit works etc. now i dont involve them in money struggles, but i do teach them age appropriate financial discussions. Like when they were 6+9 there was radio ad on sign up for electric plan and get a free nest thermostat. I walked them through the math of x per month more for different power plan over lifetime of contract (2 or 3yrs) ending up costing like 10x the cost of nest. Walked them through the math and tried to make it fun. Too many adults dont understand budgeting and credit. I didnt. So i think its smart to involve kids in responsible money discussions

Internet? Go to the library. Quit reading trashy magazines, you don't have time. Buy things at goodwill and stay out of the mall. It isn't rocket science. Stay off the fast food!! Both mother and daughter have a weight problem. They can cook healthy stuff at home.

Glad she gave Kaitlyn a budget too. She will learn to cook too. How can you be 35 and not cook? Baffling! 🤷‍♀️🦘
