I can’t see them ever having Gohan replace Goku as the MAIN protagonist, but Super Hero’s success definitely proves that people wanna see him in a more prominent role than what he had before the movie. To expand upon what you guys said about them alternating protagonists, they could even do arcs mixing character dynamics. For example, having Goku and Piccolo go on an adventure together, then an arc focusing on Gohan and Vegeta. It’d be interesting seeing characters that don’t normally interact with each other clash dynamics.

What people dont realize is gohan ssj2 transformation was so strong that he literally was stronger then his buu arc ssj2 self and goku and vegeta . Gohan potential is that high whenever he transforms. Gohan unlocking beast literally awakened his potential at a godlier level ! It's possible, but the story has to be written around gohan's reactive nature, and piccolos passive - inquisitive nature. They arent proactive characters like goku and vegeta. And for the love of goodness have someone else besides Goku learn Kaio Ken, like all the human Z fighters. Piccolo's regenerative nature would make him a very viable candidate for Kaioken.

Gohan has never been the right character to take the main character role. It doesn't make him a bad character, just not the right one. He's a family man and should stay on earth to fulfill the goal that future gohan was unable to. Gohan is not fit to continue goku's legacy, ideology or any torch that makes goku, goku. I think the stories splitting makes sense, since most of the cast has to stay on earth and i'd like to see more stuff with goten and trunks, maybe being galactic patrolman or awakening an ancient evil since they are thrill seekers themselves good job with that geekdom.

I didn't say "He was never meant to be a main character", he obviously was built up for it, I said he's not FIT to be the main character. There's a difference. at least for dragon ball and I stand by that, reread my comment, He doesn't fit any of Goku's ideals beyond just being strong, now you can argue that he doesn't need to, and we can argue about that, but with the way dragon ball is written Gohan is someone that should stay on earth to pursue his scholarly dreams, it shows that what trunks fought for was worth it, because he lives the life he's always wanted. He could've played his role up as a hero, to be different from goku, but Goten and Trunks have taken that role instead. Right now, if dragon is to have another protagonist, it has to be someone who is willing to take up goku's role, his morals, ideology and perspective on life and to live as a martial artist. Gohan does not live like that, nor does he want. He's a sleeping beast waiting for his time and that's not a role befitting of the protagonist of dragon ball. Whether you think Z was supposed to be the story of Gohan or not it's irrelevant, Toriyama saw the flaws in making Gohan the main character and I agree with the decision. Now if you wanna talk about whether that was a good decision or not we can, but let's not mischaracterize my arguement.

Another thing is some fans apparently don't believe multi-tasking exist. I've literally heard it argued "Well Gohan can't maintain his strength because he wants a life of peace." It's like they think you either have to train all day every day like Goku & Vegeta, or not train at all. No in-between whatsoever. Which is quite frankly ridiculous. I honestly think Gohan can settle down, have a family, get a job, and with just minimal training, even as little as 2 or 3 hours in the afternoon after work, maintain his power perfectly fine. So Gohan can wake up, go to work, come home, train a couple of hours as the sun starts to settle, spend the rest of the night relaxing with his family until bed, and that's all Gohan needs. I think people forget how easily Gohan can gain power. This is a guy who went into the time chamber with Goku as a base Saiyan. In LESS then ONE YEAR Gohan obtained Super Saiyan, Mastered Super Saiyan, and surpassed Goku in power (yes people Gohan was more powerful even as a SSJ1 then Goku). Gohan does not need to turn into Goku & Vegeta to maintain his strength. Even just a small, just a tiny bit of effort towards training, no more then a couple hours at most out of his day put towards training. And I see no reason Gohan wouldn't be able to easily maintain his strength. So this whole repeating story arch of Gohan getting stronger just to lose all his power, this story arch needs to die. Gohan CAN have both a normal Earthling life AND be ready to take any major threats that approach the planet. I mean hell, even GT realised Gohan can do both. But Toriyama can't?

To go a little bit further, the broly, moro, and the superhero story are prime examples of how to use the characters. One story was about Vegeta and Goku. One used all the characters, and the other was about the earth based characters, and that's a great format for storytelling.

It's like if Goku caught up to fighting Beerus in Battle of Gods without even the special god ritual, but just power that apparently was in him the whole time as per usual. Gohan had the power to turn SS2 against Cell because of his anger potential, but he still had to train for it to be of any use when it came out in the first place. Just another Raditz headbutt wouldn't cut it anymore with Cell. And Gohan is, like Broly and SS2 Kefla, able to catch up to super saiyan blues with seemingly just his own ordinary mortal power... Even though it's been shown in the Copy-Vegeta arc that regular ass Vegeta can effortlessly solo SS3 Gotenks at that point

Here are two scenarios I was thinking they could do to make Gohan the main character: (1) Create a storyline where Goku Vegeta & Broly go off to other universes and train their versions of Saiyans or just have them go on some multiversal adventure of some sort. Just a plot scenario where you can take them out the picture without killing them off, which brings me to my next option; (2) I wouldn’t “kill” them off per say, but maybe seal them off in another dimension or universe where time stops, maybe introduce a new villain or underling of Black Frieza that has the ability to manipulate space-time.

There was a moment where Gohan showed that intelligence in the anime in the Tournament of Power where he told everyone to stick to the strategy as the Team leader for Universe 7. Here is a thought, make an arc with a dual threat between universe 6, 7 and 11, Frieza is the villian and his force is multi universal, the dragon balls shut down all of the angels and gods. Most of the pride troopers have been defeated, Topo and Vegeta are forced to become gods of destruction to get their angles back, now split the cast between these universes.

I think to have a duel story plot they have to reevaluate how they make villains. Dragon ball likes to have 1 top villain a arc and maybe some subordinates. If we were gonna have two stories then they would need at least 2 main antagonists. And if they aren’t careful we might end up with a fairy tail or bleach scenario where every important protagonist gets a fight but they chop around and it gets predictable and cumbersome watching 12 important battles a arc I would love master goku. Pan, uub, and broly as students would be so cool. I also think your right with the u6 saiyans.

All these ideas aren’t inherently bad. The problem is with the writing. You could do any story idea. Being grounded or going galactic. If the villains aren’t written good, The characterization is bad, or the world building is bad. The stories going to be trash. So if they do either of these I hope it’s just reading good. Like the concept of Suspension of disbelief. When I use that I don’t go by our world. If it doesn’t make sense in the world that they made that’s when I start asking questions. Heroes on Earth and heroes in space? It's almost like they forgot all about the Moro arc. The way it was written to separate characters and yet still incorporate such a large cast is probably one of, if not the main reason it is one of the best stories in modern day Dragon Ball.

I think the movie missed a small plot at the end to power scale Gohan a little right at the end. By Gohan powering up to beast mode Goku and Vegeta could have sensed his power during or right after their fight. You know like they both sense his power level and acknowledge with the usual “Huh, what is that power!” type ish. @@KamiAnimeS1 though I always loved how he was way more grounded and family based than goku I would love for gohan to have the chance to have some big implications in arcs going forward, he’s always been teased as the strongest character but we’ve never really seen him stand beside other characters showing off that power other than the android arc. If Toriyama and his writing team were smart they would do this.... Have Goku Vegeta and Broly explore the larger universe(s) and world building they have established. Go a little out there ans get kinda crazy While having Gohan Goten and Trunks handle all the battles that come to Earth and threats that come to Earth Theres so many stories they could do. Toriyama had his shot, built it up and it came to a perfect climax in the Cell saga… then he just said F it and brought Goku back. In order to do so he had to make Gohan and co make the dumbest decisions possible so Goku could come back.

I feel they went and created the god of destruction and the angels after then they created the Kai’s. Sense they have they have been using these Devine beings and groups that are essentially emulating Goku (angels) Vageta (god of destruction) gohan (the Kai’s). Gohan beast imo emulates the Kai’s even more, and it ties into his power being unlocked by the elder Kai. We’ve seen the former grand surprise kai from the Moro arc that showcases they all have immense power and magic and was only defeated by bud once he was weaker several thousands of years later. I would really like to see Gohan go off with the Kai’s and do some training with them and hone in his new “beast” form, or develop a mastered “beast”.

One - I think Toriyama should have stuck to his guns on having Gohan be the main character of the Buu saga. The stuff early on in the manga with him training Videl is some of the best stuff from that time. Two - the ship has kind of sailed at this point, and I say that as a Gohan fan. In general I think the series needs to embrace its ensemble more. With Gohan and Piccolo able to hang with the big dogs now maybe we’ll get more of that. Tenshinhan glow up when?

Doing the story like that as of having multiple stories going at once, would also be a way to keep the franchise going. I keep seeing people online trying to still say that Super is not really canon but GT still is. It was even said that it was the other way around. They can still bring Super Saiyan 4 in the canon by ways of Broly. Maybe there is multiple versions of Saiyan God form, as in Super Saiyan God that deals with one side of the Saiyan power with Goku & Vegeta and then you have Super Saiyan 4 with Broly, that deals with the raw power of tapping in the Great Ape form like Super Saiyan 4 does. Cause in the Broly movie, it hinted Super Saiyan 4 with how Broly could still tap into the power scale of the Great Ape.

I like stories where the mantle is passed on. But in Gohan’s case, he really doesn’t have the drive to be the main character. He’s not curious enough. He would need to become a hero again like Great Saiyaman since he doesn’t have Goku’s innate desire for a fight

The worst part about Gohan’s writing is that they keep the scholar and fighting separate. Gohan seemingly loves learning yet he doesn’t care about ki or 12 unexplored universes? Gohan being more proactive and learning to appreciate martial arts through enlightenment rather than depending on his instincts would’ve been much more compelling than a regressed Goku relearning lessons he learned back in DB.

Well Videl does have a Dojo, Gohan probably helps her when he’s not working on his studies. Which I believe Gohan’s studies is on the Spiritual “(Different) Path”. It’s along the Statements embracing who he is and not relying on SS, because it’s ONES TRUE FORM.(Saiyant’s etc.) We’ve already seen Vegeta get Surprised from Spirit Control training with his blast Explosively Manifesting. Vegeta’s was just a Blast explosively magnifying from Spirit. Gohan learned to Trigger a Full Body Spiritual Manifestation from his Past Experiences and Studying/Training.

Nope. I'm in the bottom 0.1% where I don't want Gohan to do any of that stuff. The guy has had his shine multiple times in various arcs, in multiple movies, made his dreams come true, married the love of his life, had a kid, AND has his extracurricular activities. I say just let him basically be the unknown small-time hero of Satan City, or wherever he is if needed. I want him to be more of a family man and live his life in peace.

These are great ideas but I would say that they have shown hints of other characters being positioned as the main characters other then Goku or Vegeta such as Trunks acting as the main protagonist in the anime or Granolah being a misguided protagonist of his story but even though I agree that they can make another arc with Gohan as the lead, I would say they should build up the characters that they introduced in super more like Hit, Jiren, Merus, Broly, Universe 6 Saiyans, and Beerus more due to them having more flexibility with their character development and tension of them dying due to not knowing about their future.

I would count the android and cell saga as duel arc’s i think you definitely don’t get one without the other, and they both essentially do what geekdom was referring to as far as multiple things happening in a arc that aren’t necessarily focused around Jeyese, Goku, and Vegeta hell I would say those to art in particular are the most different in all of Z in how that whole thing was structured

The ending of the Buu arc set up Goten and Trunks to be the hero’s I like that idea. Gohan can become a new mentor to them, train them and fight along side them AND maybe be the new brains of the team and let Bulma retire? Also, really wish Tien would have had a kid Trunks & Goten’s age, maybe introduce a younger namekian too

I recall how overpowered gohan was in the dragon ball z movie 10 When He was Actually Somewhat on par With Broly To the point where his blows can briefly stun Broly. Lol And the kicker is that the writers in original translation had Gohan train because they assumed gohan would have been the main character who keep up Training. So it's very interesting that in the movie Timelime Gohan actually trained During the Seven years.. It's funny How terrible the english localization can be Because people that read english translation assumed Gohan was rusty. Of course my major Gripe about the Film is that everybody should have sensed Broly and Should of Jumped Him... There is no way that Vegeta Would the remain out of the fight.. Same With Piccolo. The moment Broly woke up and Powered up everybody should of have sensed Him in the film

No, but I would be open to more Gohan focused arcs if they did something new with him. Gohan, since really Super started, has been running in circles as a character. Super Hero tried to do something different at the end, revealing that Gohan still trained (which is pretty weird given some of the things that happen in the movie and where we are), but it was still mostly the same thing.

I do believe that Gohan will never be a main character, or main character material, mainly because of what Geekdom101 said, because although there are a lot of characters wanting a normal life opposed to always fighting, it is like, they never look for trouble, so the creators have to make it to where trouble looks for or finds them, like usual bank robbers or pretty criminals that Gohan can deal with on a regular basis, but then it goes to other big things like some random conquerors just come to Earth to try and conquer it, and then that is when Gohan has to really step in. It might be a a constant plot thing to create and put more trouble and enemies against Gohan just because, like the give him no peace in his life, because that his how these things work. Gohan would find no real peace, rather than the Goku thing where Goku looks for trouble and he prepares for trouble, and he has found peace with his way of living, but Gohan doesn't want that, Gohan wants a family, he wants to have fun with his daughter, he wants a life, he has to have stuff happen to him every time. Maybe Goku being universal or even Multiversal can work, like a green lantern space thing, and Gohan is a more down to Earth hero, maybe that can work, but let's see what happens.

He will be the strongest for a flash of time before he goes back to his regular life again while Goku continues to go beyond and leave him in the dust again. Just like Vegeta, he will only ever be top dog for the briefest of moments before Goku figures out the next stage of power and ultimately take the mantle of #1 again as always. Goku will never play second fiddle to anyone longterm, even if they are Jiren or Broly or Beerus, he will get to their level one way or another
