Every race can be racially prejudiced, but racism requires a certain power and control, either economically, socially, politically, etc. in your favor. We don't have that. As the brother mentioned, whites can just say a black person did something and the police will likely believe it and may arrest or even kill that black person. That is part of the racist power structure. A police officer is not likely to arrest a white person if I claim they did something. Being white, you are many times more likely to be given the benefit of doubt in any situation, than a black person. We do not get the benefit of doubt, especially from police. The police are much more likely to shoot a black person than to give them the benefit of doubt and say it's possible this person is not a criminal. A white person in an expensive store can the benefit of doubt and be assumed to be able to afford anything in the store. A black person in that same store does not get that benefit of doubt. There will be an automatic assumption that this black person can't afford to be in the store and he will be watched or possibly have the police called on him to possibly lose his life. That's what racism looks like friend and I don't see that happening in the day to day white experience

So this story was just recently after leaving my moms abusive x. Im adopted and of Asian decent just to clarify. so I was out eating with my family one afternoon having fun and all of a sudden we hear a commotion at table next to us. We listened and one black lady and her husband were arguing with the waitstaff pointing to me calling me a C word. You can probably guess what word I’m referring to cause its just as bad as the N word only for Asian people. So she was mad cause I guess she assumed that the waiter was doing favoritism toward me since I was asian and this was an asian food place. She pointed at me and my family who were not asian and brought us into the argument she was making to the waitstaff. My mom talked to the women and it turned into a huge argument which the lady threw racist insults toward me, all while my mother tried to ask her why she was being so hateful toward me and that we were just minding our own business. The lady then said that I need to get thicker skin if I cant handle her and she began ranting. She said you white folk and asians are the problem with world all while her husband sat there doing nothing to calm her. I get where she was coming from with the arguments, but not all white and asian people are bad. There is a bad apple in a basket once in a while yes, but my family adopted me a non white, so if were racist like she said all white people are then how is that possible? Any who it scared me shitless cause I never had a racist experience before. So the lesson is yes. Anyone can be racist regardless of race. All we and the other customers were doing was having a good time and someone can turn it into a problem. Please dont be that person who does that.

This is the big problem: "how do you define racism?" When you ask someone this of course most of the time they will get defensive when you want to argue because they feel like their opinion on what racism is is what it is for every other person and every dictionary in the world.
@condeandrew57454 жыл бұрын
But this is why we have the dictionary. Oxford regularly analyzes how people use the English language and comes to a consensus for how people use a particular word. Micro transactions was wrongly used to describe game items you buy and now it’s definition was changed. People change languages. The reason racism hasn’t changed is because people generally feel the same about racism, that anybody can be racist.

When I got jumped and kicked and called racist names, it seemed like black people can be racist. Being in a position of authority is BS. Racism is "the belief that different races possess distinct characteristics, abilities, or qualities, especially so as to distinguish them as inferior or superior to one another." What Dwann was speaking of is the power structure, or Institutional Racism. That's a different discussion, but a real problem. I didn't become racist after getting jumped because I had too many people in my circle that I care about, who happen to be black. I've actually been told by some African-Americans that I made up getting jumped and called racist names-some people cannot handle reality, but for the most part, people are good.

Racism is not about power, It's about prejudice rooted in hatred and the believe that once race is superior over an other. That's the definition first, people are trying to wade away from the dictionary meaning to say that htye cannot be racist yet colorism is supposedly on the same level as racism and black people are being accused of it? Which one is it? Racism is about hatred and supiority and considering someone else inferior on the basis of 'race'...

@@peacheskong2245 You just said it yourself. Prejudice rooted in hate. Minorities come from prejudice rooting in fear. They fear white people because what they've done and what they're actively doing. Minorities can definitely be racist to other minorities. However, they cannot be racist to white people. The difference between the two is that no minority has ever held power over another minority. Therefore, no minority has a reason to fear another minority when it comes to their history together. That means if a minority is racist to another minority, it's based on hate. However, minorities can only be prejudiced to white people as they don't hate them they fear them. White people have never faced any oppression or discrimination from minorities. Only other white people. Therefore, they also have no reason to fear minorities based on the history between them which means, white people can be racist to anybody except other white people.
