It's bizzare journalism to compare the C919 to the 737 without the A320 family of aircraft. In many ways the 737 is an antiquated design that's be resurrected generation after generation in the name of cost saving (which ultimately lead to the MCAS situation). You also fail to mention the immesnese support the C919 will receive from the domestic Chinese aviation market as most major Chinese airlines are, at least partially, state owned and hence will receive a lot of pressure to purchase these planes. This will undoubtedly help the the C919 in terms of sales with 1/5 of the global aviation market backing it. Unlike the MC-21, this will help the C919 mature and improve.

China has a lot of friendly countries who would welcome C919 so initially China would be able to stretch C919 to fly overseas. It is totally understandable that China has enough of paying high prices to foreign companies. Chinese engineers are well-trained and hard-working. They have built moon and mars landers. Of course China will eventually fly Chinese planes in China and not planes from the US or from Europe. The same with cars in particular EV's and other high-tech such as electronics. And potentially they will be more competitive than Europe and the US and take a dominating share of the international market. It is deserved because the Western CEO's, CFO's and stockholders had dollar signs in their eyes seeing China as a huge export market for technological products so they could gain more money. The Chinese liked the products and learned how to produce them themselves even more efficiently than the Western exporters. Those who play with fire eventually get burned. Who knows what will happen but it is good to see China growing up and taking care of itsself. In the meantime the Western technological industry is becoming ever more entangled in bureaucracy, regulations, audits, short-term optimization and seem to lack research in their core products to make any real advances. The fact that the traditional dominating car-brands totally missed the EV-transition shows that investment in innovation is largely insufficient in most Western countries.
@dasbubba8412 жыл бұрын
Obvious pro-China propaganda aside, the West dominates in aerospace technology. This is because it is a capital-intensive, research-intensive field that has a very high barrier to entry. There is a reason why the Chinese Airforce is still dependent on Russian engines for basically all of its aircraft (China's domestic engines still have tremendous teething issues). And Chinese development is still highly dependent on government support. What the government sees as a priority gets massive support, while other sectors are left to starve.

However if the rule changes and China will have to go it alone then all foreign planes can only be allowed into China if Chinese C919 could go to those countries in reciprocation. The supply chain manufacturers would want to supply parts to C919 so not all western countries would participate in sanction against China. On balance China intend to make C919 in the same way Being and Airbus do but it will have a contingency plan. China is of course can get parts and technical support from Russia. The 737 sucks. Is there a new model for 2022 or something? I've been on the 737. It's not debatable. It's the worst Boeing probably. I remember the plane from the 90s when it was also the worst Boeing. Some Airbus was worse once, but I'm not really a reviewer and don't have the right to make a final statement (or anything which can be considered a judgement). That being said, Chinese manufacturing has never disappointed anyone. They also make disposable toys. It's an insult to the world to insult Chinese manufacturing (are you really a terrorizer?).
@ambergris570510 ай бұрын
This video is so US-centric it's funny. It's like "China is dependent on the Boeing and the 737, and wants to be independent!" when then it shows that there are more Airbus aircrafts sold in China than Boeing's. Then it's "the 919 uses older technology than the 737 Max or even the A320 Neo", whereas in reality, Boeing is playing catching up to Airbus, with the outdated 737 airframe being stretched between the A320 family and the brand new A220 family. Plus, it's really concerned by the impact of trade disagreements between China and the US; while also acknowledging two minutes later that the 737 Max itself is a very international product with suppliers from everywhere and especially Europe, so China can easily bypass some of those trade concerns by ordering in Europe rather than the US... It seems like the people doing this video were a bit blindsided by their own American view of the world, and that's a problem, because it left out some crucial bits out of the information: the vulnerable position of Boeing with an ageing product lineup and no current future plans while Airbus is ramping up the charge; the added competition of a third player determined to break the duopoly; the repeated safety scandals who are preventing Boeing to respond to Airbus's charge and are increasing the latter's lead; the emerging (though fragile) relationship between China and Russia's respective platemakers which grants China access to a wide, decades-long and proven expertise; the fact that the Comac 919 doesn't have to be the perfect plane already, it's a learning ground gearing towards upscaling and bringing future world-class products... But yeah, this video could have been much better than it is now, just like Boeing could have been. I guess in that sense it's been faithful?

Boeing 737 series was designed 50 years ago thou it continues to improve/upgrade on many things, like engine, control system, materials, over time. But the backbones and basic design in 737 are never changed. Becuase it is pretty much re-designing a new plane from scratch if you want to leverage the current aerodynamic concept and technology. This process will take many years and Boeing is seeing that it will lose the competition with Airbus. So Boeing took the short cuts to compete with Airbus, the most obvious evidence is the oval engines with the lowest ground clearance. Boeing even did not tell airlines that 737 Max is equipped with MCAS and no information is displayed in manuals so airlines do not have to spend time and money for extra pilots training. There are tons of issues we can discuss 737. C919 is a much modern airplane in terms of design and build. It is better than 737 in my mind. I would choose C919 over 737 Max if there are options.
