For some reason guys that beat women can't guard Evans. We upgraded in talent and character

Fun fact if you haven't seen it yet. The Lions are the 4th team in NFL history to start the season playing back to back against teams they went up against in the playoffs. The other teams this happened to went to the Superbowl that season. 1966 Packers, 1984 49ers, and 2007 Patriots.

I think that if Davenport doesn't play, you will see Pascal and Levi on early downs. Then Houston on pass downs, or Levi or even maybe Wingo.

I just watched John Gruden speak about the two teams. He mostly spoke about Tampa. He also spoke about pressure being put on the Lions. I just hope that we are missing Davenport and Iffy. It’s going to be difficult to beat these guys. They are good.

Buccs have an elite screen game. Washington had the worst defense in the NFL last year.

I didn't really think Washington looked physical or fast on Defense last week. Small sample size, so it's not fair to judge them yet. I do think that the Lions Defense will play with a very different level of intensity.

I think I understand the logic of Tampa going for two in that situation. Please bear in mind I'm merely speculating here, so I might be completely off base. Well anyways, I believe the idea behind it is that they're playing on the road, and wanted to play for the win in regulation, t9 avoid overtime. If they convert the two point conversion there, then they only need a touchdown & a 1 pt PAT to win. Even if the 2 point attempt fails, they still have a chance to tie, with another TD & a successful 2 pt conversion. I assume they felt that trying for the win in regulation gave them a better chance at victory than if the game went to overtime. The argument could be made that waiting to go for two if/when they score a second touchdown would be preferable, but I feel like it would be much more difficult to execute, since the Lions defense would know for sure that failing to stop the Bucs means they lose the game. I hooe this makes sense, as it's still pretty early where I'm at, and I'm dealing with a bit of a sleep med hangover atm.

Wanting or not wanting to avoid overtime shouldn't even factor in here. I don't know what the exact break-even rates are, but with the NFL average 2pt conversion rates hovering around 50%, the chances of (make your first 2pt attempt and an XP kick) + (make your second 2pt attempt and win in OT) are strictly higher than making two kicks and winning in OT.

Well they did, but the offense sold lol. I was so frustrated watching them March into the redzone like 4 times and get nothing out of it.

Idk if the lions defense can stop the bucs but I so know the def secondary needs to make plays for the lions to win

In Brad we trust...theyll find a way. Well take our lumps early in the season, but by the end of the year, we'll be close to a top 10 defense. As for Cam Sutton he was hot garbage all year. We pulled guys off the practice squad and even had to pull guys off the street to play secondary. Anzalone was flying around all game against the rams, with Reader nowhere to be found yet on the field. Branch in particular looked sloppy missing two early tackles and a pick last week, so much so he apologized to HCDC saying it wont happen again. The short Preseason and that Labor day weekend layoff didnt do the league any favors as their were some extremely sloppy games played.

Evans straight up blocked on that TD play. If that's not a penalty, then there is no chance to prevent free releases.

Oh I agree. It should be called, but they rarely do call it. When it is called on the Offense, it seems very selective.

I thought Evans did a really poor job of it, but, that is possibly related to the fact that the Bucs are not a team that relies on picks/shield concepts to get open. So their WR's, the "Screener", are not as smooth at doing so without risking a penalty.

Well, you have 4 guys out on the defense in the secondary, which is definitely where the lions are going to throw the ball. So I think it's not going to be anything like last year's game. Because detroit is going to rip the ball a lot and tampae will not be able to hold on

What game was Ben Johnson watching? I think this Bucs game is one of his worst performances as an OC in a long time. We already know about the slip at the half. We just didn't execute at a bunch of different levels. Glassgow looked bad. Hutch was absolutely insane. Arnold has to learn to use his hands better when he is in contact with WRs. Branch had a nice game.

What do you think about the Lions having no pass rush last year, adding 2 players, 1 known for injuries, 1 known for run blocking, and both of them being injured by week 2? If brad sells out last year for a star corner and edge rusher we would have a ring.
@brandonbaty2291
@brandonbaty2291 19 күн бұрын
Who are you referring to? I’m confused. Davenport and Reader? Reader isnt “injured before week 2”. He is healthy FOR week 2. He is far more than a run blocker, he commands double teams to free up the pass rush. Also, “selling out” for a what you perceive as a ring would tank the team financially moving forward and there is no guarantee that it would have produced a ring. But it WOULD guarantee losing a lot MORE talented players. We can be in the conversation for rings (plural) if we continue drafting studs and being smart with free agent signings. There’s an infinite list of “star” free agent signings that arent team fits, that work on paper but never come to fruition on the field (like 90% or more). If we had a decent (not even great) secondary and a space eater or decent D-linemen on the team last year, we could have a ring too. Hence what we added in the offseason WITHOUT mortgaging the future.

Have a feeling that Evans is gonna have 12 for 175 and a TD. Lions still win bc the run d will make the Bucs 1 dimensional. That seemed to be the idea last season. Worked until it didn’t vs 49ers
