It's incredible... Really, i've seen many many documentary on K2, many tragedy of died alpinists, many stories of mans who left their teammates alone in the death zone due to the harsh conditions.. Now i see a man with his ski on his shoulder reaching the top without additional oxigen, drinking a redbull and goind down. It's mindblowing, i really can't understand it.

My highest respect for the climber and skier, but also for the drone pilot. They have set a new benchmark. The only problem I see is, that drones will be less used for safety then for higher risks -see ABS -Syndrom. Good Luck to all of you!
@bertfarin87554 жыл бұрын
Wow, amazing cinematography and a quantum leap in practical use of a drone. I imagine purists might be appalled. But how can you dispute the efficacy of rescuing a stranded climber, or delivering medicine up high safely via drone vs. putting the safety of a climbing Sherpa at risk. Seems to me, that is a fair trade off. Skiing down that knife edge band of snow along that ridge line was awesome.

Bert Farin The real leap is how to hack a DJI drone.
@trilltron28854 жыл бұрын
Good point, so often Sherpas are tasked with rescue operations, much better to send a drone instead. My only worry is that as mountaineering becomes more accessible and popular, id hate to see a clogged airspace of 100s or even 1000s of buzzing drones on climbing routes.

When Bartek asked DJI for help with modifying their drone so that it can fly at the altitude of 8 km above the sea level they told him that it is totally impossible and they refused any assistance. Agree the team deserves a lot of praise for helping potentially save lives and achieving an unreal first ski descent. Still, Red Bull sponsors Bargiel so they very much help such athletes achieve these feats. Without sponsorship this journey would likely be more dangerous (by limiting resources due to cost) or not even take place as Bargiel maybe would just be working a more standard job to earn a living.
