@@andrewfuller3319 Not sure what you mean by the first part? I was just saying I don't remember any reason given why they couldn't try to go back and save them once they were back in the tardis at the end. Usually there'd be some reason like you can't cross timelines, or the tardis can't land there but I couldn't remember anything here. Without that reason, the scene therefore reads to me as the doctor choosing not to go back for them. And I get that the Tardis is often faulty but then there have been various times when we've seen the doctor land with pinpoint accuracy so she could at least have tried. But I suppose it's not that big a thing really! :)
@noahjones98334 жыл бұрын
They very, very easily could have. The only time when a person's death becomea a fixed point is when its been observed and is very necessary for history. The doctor once saved a man who tried to kill himself because he saw a newspaper that mentioned he was seen jumping off a bridge but no body was found, so he went back in time, saved the man, then dropped him off a few days intto the future after the newspaper was written. Had his body been found, then it wouldve been a fixed point and the doctor couldnt have safely saved em, but even then he probably could have saved the man as time wouldve fixed itself eventually. In comparison, a time traveler must never, ever observe their own future, because it makes it a fixed point (unless doing so results on a good future but still its dangerous). For example, reading a true book written by yourself in the future talking abour how your friend dies will make their death a fixed point and youll be unable to save them, and no matter what you do they'll end up dying. Tldr, yes they can be saved very, very easily. The doctor has a time machine and their deaths are not set in stone.

Based on the Confused Adipose's (a WhoTuber) theory. That 13 is trapped in a parallel universe with her TARDIS and Jack. I’m still hoping The parallel universe theory that the 12th Doctor's regeneration was so powerful it broke the Tardis navigational systems and pushed the Doctor into another universe since (Timelords can travel between universes). Once the TARDIS entered Ruth’s universe, The TARDIS struggled to enter properly. Evidence to this theory can be seen in The Ghost Monument (Series 11, Episode 2). It stuttered, failed to land properly and failed to find something to stabilise itself on from it's own universe until the Doctor found it and stabilised it with her screwdriver. "But the TARDIS gains it's energy from it's own universe." The Timeless Child plays into this perfectly. The name drops of The Timeless Child is scattered through Series 11 and 12. The episode "The Timeless Child" (Series 12, episode 10) cleared this up as The Doctor herself being "The Timeless Child" and we all thought he was telling the truth. TECHNICALLY HE WAS... Well not quite. Who else is seen through Series 12? That's right, *RUTH!!!* Ruth is the Doctor of *THAT UNIVERSE* that 13 and Jack are trapped in! All this similarity's to our universe, 13 assumes it's her own universe. She later comes across The Master which is actually the Master of Ruth’s universe. The Master just assumes 13 is just a past incarnation of Ruth (since even the Master is unaware of this universal breach.) *"But where does jack come into this?"* Back in the proper universe (our universe) Jack steals a ship to follow the Doctors last know coordinates. When Jack finds a small rift left by the TARDIS, he follows into that alternate universe just enough before it closes behind him. Jack is determined to find the Doctor and bring her back to our universe knowing the consequences of universal tampering from Torchwood experience. Knowing the TARDIS is runs off a black hole, he becomes aware of the dangers this could have on this new universe and possibly our own. Somewhere down the line, Jack becomes aware of the lone Cyberman and links up all these events to the Doctor. He now knows there's another Doctor roaming the universe, WITH A TARDIS OF HER OWN. Putting 2 Doctors in 1 place already causes catastrophe on certain timelines, 2 TARDISes with functioniung black holes colliding will cause a universal destruction. Luckily in Fugitive of the Judoon (Season 12, Episode 5). My guess is the reason the TARDIS dematerialised in "The Woman Who Fell To Earth" was because it knew what was happening and detected another TARDIS (Ruth's TARDIS) and immediately left to prevent any destruction but gave 13 the remaining shields while she fell to Earth and collided into the Train roof. Jack sets out to find The Doctor and SUCCESS! He does find BOTH OF THEM IN THE SAME PLACE, which coincidentally made it easier for him to track her! Except he teleports Graham to his ship instead of The Doctor and realising he’s in trouble, attempts to send a message in the meantime so he can hopefully prevent these events taking place leading to a TARDIS collision. *"And the Timeless Children? Isn't 13 a future incarnation of Ruth?"* {The Ascension of the Cyberman -Series 12} Towards the end, The Master appears out of a portal from the wreck of his universes Gallifrey. This is phase 2 of the universes breaking down leading to destruction. While Jack is on the run, he gets captured by the Jadoon because he’s not registered by the galaxy (since he’s part of our universe). These events will lead into Revolution of the Daleks (hopefully). (The Timeless Children, Series 12) The Doctor is later revealed to be The Timeless Child. I’m thinking that The Timeless Child was actually Ruth from that universe. The master technically overall DIDN’T LIE but he just didn’t know that Jodie’s Doctor Isn’t his Doctor from his universe but rather Ruth is. This whole episode and story arch was meant for Ruth, but The Doctor intervened. 13 believes this and is gets trapped in the Matrix by the Master in the matrix. My guess is that in that time, The Matrix was unsure whether our Doctor (13) was the correct Doctor of that universe (Ruth) since it now picks up 2 Doctors simultaneously existing. 13 then proceeds to break the Matrix but NOT FROM HER MIND, but rather from the fact that The Matrix was right about 13 and began to break from the fact it didn’t recognise Jodie’s Doctor as Ruth’s Doctor. This is very possible theory since we've seen another Doctor from another universe die from the Racnoss (Turn Left, Season 4, Episode 11). All reality was threatened after that. All the adventures the Doctor had, were turned sinister and had a bad outcome. *"The Brain Of Morbius has evidence."* Usually I'd shut down those faces in The Brain Of Morbius being The Doctor as literally Morbiuses faces since they clashed in a psychological battle, but that would mean this theory wouldn't follow through. It shuts down a potential story that could be a classic and a Chibnall redemption. The theory goes that Ruth's universe was like any other except there are only 4 universes with The Doctor inhabiting it. Our Doctor (13), The Metacrisis Doctor with Rose, Ruths universe, and the Turn Left Universe. Ruth's universe could have taken a drastic turn when her universe clashed with 13s Universe during that one mind battle with Morbius. The link with Morbius opens up so many possibilities. Morbius was a Time Lord at one stage. He knows his way around inter-dimensional travel along with Time Travel. When the 4th Doctor clashed minds with him, it unlocked something deep inside Morbuises head causing a mental link with RUTH while Ruth engaged in the SAME BATTLE from another universe. 13's mind met with Ruth's mind for a split second and drifted apart. All these years after that, Ruth's universe stayed close to 13s universe. Since Ruth's universe never really had any alien invasions and extra terrestrial encounters, UNIT and Torchwood went out of business. Because of this, The Daleks never visited 1963 in "Remembrance Of the Daleks" (7th Doctor,) it never lead to the destruction of Skaro leading to the events of the Time War. Meaning that this Universe never experienced a Time War. This reality of Ruth's was safe keeping it from being destroyed. That is until 13 fell into it. *"Ruth is every Non Canon Doctor"* Just a side theory of mine that since Ruth is the Timeless Child, The possibilities are endless. Retcons can take place to make this theory official to fit the story. Ruth has had many faces and many lives and my theory goes that all non Canon Doctors are Ruth's past. First taking place is The Timeless Child story, then comes the reset regenerations post mind wipes. Peter Cushing is the 1st Doctor, Robert Holmes 2nd Doctor, George Gallaccio 3rd Doctor, Graeme Harper 4th Doctor, Douglas Camfield 5th Doctor, Christopher Baker 6th Doctor, Robert Banks Stewart 7th Doctor, Christopher Barry 8th Doctor, with David Warner as the War Doctor, *AND THEN* The Curse Of Fatal Death Doctor's taking place (with evidence), Rowan Atkinson as the 9th Doctor, Richard E. Grant 10th Doctor, Jim Broadbent 11th Doctor, Hugh Grant 12th Doctor, Joanna Lumley 13th Doctor and Ruth as the 14th Doctor coming in as the recent incarnation. Please Chibnall!!! 60th Anniversary coming up! This would make a perfect story and would call back to the history since the plot could be *13 The TARDIS and Jack returning to the universe this show started in!* Just make no alterations on way, clear up some of your mistakes with this theory and you'll go down as one of the greatest writers to pull off a twist *NOBODY was expecting!* -Squicx

Love the message, but almost breaking the fourth wall was just, unfortunate and really upsetting. It was one of the three things I hated about this episode. Doctor Who has always been political, in 1963 there were the Daleks that were clearly based of White Supremesists (60's was the time of the equal rights movement). In 1973 we had "The Green Death" that had a plot entirely based off pollution. The episode "Planet of the Ood" was about slavery. Then The Zygon Inversion spoke about wars in general. The issue is the dialogue, NOT the message, the way the message is conveyed is the issue. Don't say "Doctor Who is too P.C these days" because it is as P.C as it has always been, it is just too on the nose.

I just think nowadays as anyone and their granddaughter can get a degree and be behind the camera, that talent+skill has gone down the pan. Doesn't help that these "messages" are also not done creatively, rather just like a political statement. Irony, has it, that LESS people will get your message as it's more boring. Doctor Who has always been political, in 1963 there were the Daleks that were clearly based of White Supremacists (60's was the time of the equal rights movement). In 1973 we had "The Green Death" that had a plot entirely based off pollution. The episode "Planet of the Ood" was about slavery. Then The Zygon Inversion spoke about wars in general. The issue is the dialogue, NOT the message, the way the message is conveyed is the issue.

Humans that stay on Earth mutate into Dregs, while some of the humans that have left become Toclafane? Almost like a weird cult. And then presumably after this PR nightmare, the truth of Orphan 55/Earth emerges and the National Trust take over conservation and restore it, leading to how it is destroyed naturally in "The End Of The World". Am I reading between the lines a lot? Yes. But to be fair you kind of have to in a show like Doctor Who.

I had found the episode interesting and watchable up until this point. First time I felt the show was turning directly against me because of its directly quoting Greta Thunberg, and therefore to my mind endorsing a kind of eco-mentalism I don't agree with. I've calmed down since then, but... Many rightly criticise modern Who's approach to politics for being too unsubtle and too one-dimensional. But one thought I had lately that hasn't been brought up: The environmental message of 'The Green Death was inspired by a genuine passion and anger on the part of Barry Lefts, who read of the issue of pollution and asked a friend what he could do to tackle the issue IIRC. The response was that maybe he should write a Who story as a way of getting his frustration out. He made sure to get the urgency of the issue across while coming up with a suitable sci-fi/horror context that gave you something else to enjoy, so the message went down better. Compare and contrast with the Chibnall era, which for my money simply seems to talk about issues because they're on everyone's lips and therefore cool and trendy, be it racism, climate change or mental health, as opposed to bringing them up out of genuine interest and concern. I don't feel any strong passion in any of the political stories, save perhaps 'Demons Of the Punjab'. I feel 'Can You Hear Me?' was affected much worse by this approach than 'Orphan 55', as the last 10 mins of that were just as patronising and ill-fitting with the rest of the episode, but more drawn-out. Also I personally found people being forced to speak about their problems and poorly portrayed in a patronizing way, then that whole Graham cancer scene being played for laughs, far worse offences than what we get here. Anyway Orphan 55 is fun, and an odd experiment in darker territory compared to other Chibnall-era stories. But yeah, it's, erm... Yeah. Then again, it's only telly, which was always designed to indoctrinate the masses anyway, and I couldn't do any better. Chris Morris for the next showrunner.

Climate change is such an important issue. Climate change is real and it needs to be stopped before its too late. But, this episode kind of felt like an insult to the whole Extinction Rebellion movement. It was this goofy mess of an episode that entirely butchered the importance of activism and also destroyed the already established rules of Doctor Who. This message was so poorly delivered, and it just felt like an afterthought. A really bad episode. I wish the way they used to tackle important topics like this in the Davies and Moffat era. And if you're concerned about climate change, there are things that can be done. The extinction rebellion movement is a good place to start! There are also other charities and organisations who are a lot more consistent who are worth exploring.

Yeah agreed. The episode wasn't great and felt very unnecessary considering there was a second episode revolving around climate change (that was much better) that came not long after this one.
@METALFREAK034 жыл бұрын
There are better ways to respond to a crisis than what " Extinction Rebellion" does. They will not help the cause. Although, I just believe this whole CC is a "crisis" made up by people who just want waste managment to supersede us wasting on things that should just really be re used again for efficiency. But the only way to get business on board with this (as they wouldn't otherwise) is to create a "crisis" out of it. Just like they did with Mercantilism or the overcrowding of our cities in the early 1800s (so we "needed" to have birth certs, death certs and forms). Business would have not done it, if it wasn't perceived as a "crisis".

No one is saying Dr Who was never "political" but how it was written was better. It was a joke or an off-line, not an entire scene (2 minutes long) of reading a speech like a backbencher would do in the Commons. This is an entertainment show, meant for CHILDREN. You are meant to EDUCATE. Not make POLITICAL STATEMENTS. Children shouldn't be subjected to political paraphernalia. That is why there are more suicides in teenagers - not just because of Dr Who - but the whole direction of our entertainment is now agenda, rather than sending a message through creavitity. As I STILL am a believer that creativity is what solves issues, problems etc rather than your own political ideological BS. No one cares about what you think - ideologically. They shouldn't anyway.
@METALFREAK034 жыл бұрын
eg of it being done better was when Sarah was first introduced (you know the sotarian episode) and she goes "I am a journalist" and the doctor goes "oh you can write now huh". At the time, there was a writers strike (about a year before) which was becuase of pay for female writers. That is how you send a message. You are not going "Hey women should be able to be paid for the same jobs as men do", no as everyone would go "you are forcing this agenda down my throat". Saying the above (paraphrasing obviously), you are making people think, especially those actually in power of these decisions.
