The financial world is gradually becoming aware of climate change. Initiatives are multiplying, showing the reality of this awareness and, even more so, the action taken: actions in general shareholders' meetings, green bond issues, disinvestment in fossil industries, etc. While we can welcome this development, on the obvious grounds that nothing substantial can be done today without funding and insurance, it is legitimate to try to assess its scale and impact. This is the subject of this intervention by Alain Grandjean, who, after recalling the ecological, social, economic and financial issues, will take stock of the mobilisation of the financial sector and identify new levers for action.
Conference by Alain Grandjean, environmental economist, founder and partner of Carbone 4, a climate strategy consulting firm. In 2013, he chaired the committee of experts of the national debate on energy transition. In 2015, he and Pascal Canfin submitted the report "Mobilizing Climate Finance - A Roadmap for Financing a Carbon-Free Economy" to the President of the Republic. In 2016, together with Gérard Mestrallet and Pascal Canfin, he submitted a report to the President of COP21 for carbon prices aligned with the Paris agreement. He is co-author of several books on ecological transition including "Financer la transition énergétique : carbone, climat et argent” published in 2016 (in French).
