It's just not my thing, there's a lot about it I don't like, especially the pacing and experience system, but that's just my opinion, it's not any more important than yours. If you love the games, that's great! I'm just happy that you're into Pokemon. Next challenge is a really light hearted and fun one! Oh and to people wondering about the mid-battle save state in that one Bianca fight. That was crash protection. As you can see from all the consistent timers in that fight on the clock, I obviously never cheated. What happened was that I realised I hadn't saved in hours and that I should save, since I had an incident a few times while playing Pokemon White with Whattageek where the game froze during a fight. Totally wrong about the rival battles. Black and White were much more story and character driven games. N is your only true rival as he has wildly different values as you while still being a very capable trainer, Charon sees you as a rival but you don't feel the same about him, and Bianca is supposed to be weak. The reason you fight whenever you meet isn't because you're rivals, it's because that's how people communicate and interact in the Pokemon universe.

I actually enjoy the dialogue in the newer Pokémon games. It makes me feel like I can actually have an adventure. It takes longer, so I feel like I'm more connected with the story. Gen V battles are the fastest in the series, and the slow xp comes from the reworked formula meaning you gain less xp from killing lower level mons this stops you from getting overleveled and keeps the game more difficult. Edit: This is getting more attention than anticipated. I wanted to add despite my differing views on gen V I still loved the video! It was super entertaining and one I haven't seen before. I can't wait for the next one

I feel like you pit a lot of unnecessary hate on gen 5. You hated on the rival battles which are realistic since you're painted as friends and would want to battle a lot. Next is the cutscenes, it's a story driven game. It actually has a good story and is pretty entertaining. The slow animations are meant to be cinematic and can be turned off if you don't like them. The exp can easily be boosted by battling Audino which you clearly didn't do what with all the complaining. And finally, the pokemon designs, every generation has bad pokemon designs. Gen 1 has a pokemon that is literally just a fetus and a pokemon that us just a pile of sludge with eyes and geodude is just a rock. Gen 2 has a flower with eyes, gen 3 has a pile of lava with eyes etc. My point being that gen 5 got way too much hate in this video and got compared to the rest of the sreies which it was trying to distinguish itself from. I personally like gen 5 and what it brought to the table and how it treated its characters, but some people just can't see that. Rant over. Edit: for gen 3 I'll just change my example to seedot which is just an acorn with eyes. I forgot slugma was gen 2.

I think the reason he hated on the designs so much is because of nostalgia and because the amount of pokemon. No one complains about the first four gens because that's what everyone started with, and gen 5 doesnt have that many players that started with it. Gen 5 has literal car keys, a sword, garbage bag, musharna the fetus, tge sarcophahus, literal ice cream cone, gears, literal polar bear, etc. The Audino thing is kinda weird because he's a casual who happens to do challenges, not very experienced with the newer gens. I think out of all your challenge videos this is the one I enjoyed the least. I did start out with gen 5 full disclosure but that's not my main issue. I don't really care what you think about the games, however when so much of the script is about why you don't like the game it takes the focus away from what I and most people watch these videos for. The comedy, seeing how you did it and the saddest part for me the sincerity you bring to these videos. In the wobbuffet video it was obviously a difficult and really Really tedious challenge. But I could tell that you were genuinely really happy about these videos success and for your fans. I didn't really feel that in this video. That's not to say that you randomly don't like your fans anymore. It's just the difference between seeing you playing something you like instead of dislike. Gen 5 had so many rival battles because it was supposed to feel like the player, Cheren and Bianca were taking the journey together so they constantly run into each other and compare via battling. Whether that works for you or is just annoying varies by the person. Frankly I'm just happy for the experience it gives.

Originally I was having fun with the video, finding it funny that Bidoof was being Bidoof because, look at that thing, it is so hilarious just to look at. But...this practically got insufferable towards the end. This changed from "How much trouble is Bidoof going to be?" to "How much can I utterly trash B/W?" Now the point about the rival battles I can certainly accept because they are far too many, no doubt. But everything about it being so slow was, ironically, dragging the video to a grinding halt with nothing but complaining. You keep saying how slow the game is, and I'm just like "Have you even played D/P?" That game was far worse with its animations. Also, excuse B/W that it actually tried to have a narrative other than "Bag Guy shows up, get rid of them and be champion." Then there was the pronunciations. Normally I give them a pass, but when "Archeops" showed up, I was like "You didn't even try." Then in like every other section, it was nothing but complaining about the pokemon designs. I didn't mind the Youngster Joey stuff, it actually got kind of funny after a while, but this I was actively going "Oh god, shut up." I just...This was not a fun watch is what I will say. I enjoyed the last ones, I truly did. This one was painful though. Just because it got painful for you at times doesn't mean the audience should experience that pain too.

I absolutely ADORE gen 5, but in terms of playing through it, it's definitely hard to play multiple times. The very frequent rival battles and the painful experience makes it.. a bit of a test of patience, and there's a lot of text to click through particularly in the beginning. But it will always have a special place in my heart :) (And the music really do be popping off, no one can deny that)

Gonna leave this here, even if this is an older video: Gen 5's designs get a lot of hate, but I have to laugh that a lot of people that rip on Gen 5's designs also praise Gen 1's. You didn't here, so I'm not trying to tear into you with this MDB, simply laughing... because Gen 5's designs were meant to mirror Gen 1 in many ways. With some pokemon there is almost a 1-1 comparison on why they are designed as they are - Namely the Klinklang line and Garbodor line mirroring Magneton and Muk, or Amoongus mirroring Electrode. Gen 5 starts you out with no other options but the new stuff, because it was Gamefreak's attempt to reset everything for a bit. You get 150 pokemon in the Unova dex. That's it until the post game. Some designs flopped because of this (Swoobat is god awful), and some are iffy at best (I like Cryogonal, but I am under no illusions that it isn't a great design). But we also got pokemon like Zoroark, Excadrill, Hydreigon, Haxorus, Golurk, etc. There are some REALLY cool pokemon in Gen 5, but people point at Vanilluxe (Which was designed by an American. ... yeah, 1 pokemon was designed by an American. Not the bald eagle, but the ice cream with a face was the one that was) and Garbodor, but gloss past because it doesn't fit their narrative.

Gen 1 gets a lot more praise because during the time that it was released, it had been considered something phenomenal (because of course that was based off that era’s standards) but since (as u have said) Gen 5’s pokémon designs were based off Gen 1, it pretty much makes it basic... since Gen 1, by today’s standard, isn’t that groundbreaking design-wise... so basing a NEWER generation on smth that is considered to be basic by modern standards, isn’t really the best thing to do, again design-wise

Hey! MDB i love you channel and your creative challenges, about the exp in gen 5, i think that's actually a good thing, because it "forces" you to beat the game with strategies instead of just overleveling 'till you are 20 levels over the 8th gym, yeah, its a pain for challenges like this, but the games are not supposed to be played like that, so it adds more difficulty to the challenges :D

I agree! I think it's overall a good game mechanic, it's just awful for single Pokemon Challenges, hence why I hardly ever do Gen 5 runs

@@MahDryBread depends of what pokemon do you use, some pokes can sweep almost anything, i recently beat pokemon white 2 with a team of only 3, Emboar, Swanna and Ferrothorn and 2 HM slaves, whatever one of them can't beat, the other two could. i only added more members to the team for the pokemon league, but yeah, gen 5 exp system is a real pain for One pokemon challenges, that's why i really admire your dedication/stubborness keep going MDB :D

While I think some of the Pokemon from it are terrible Pokemon such as Chandelure and Galvantula are ones I do have a high level of fondness for as with my first playthrough my Galvantula handled the entire league for me.

so one thing about the ghetsis fight that I'd like to mention: when you were fighting his cofagrigus, I couldn't help but kinda cringe at how you were using theif over thunderbolt. I've used a cofagrigus myself. Cofagrigus has amazing physical defense, being one of the best physical walls in the game, considering that, I'm pretty sure that while yes, theif is super effective, thunderbolt, being a special move, would have done more damage than theif, along with allowing you to keep unaware and make the cofagrigus much easier to take out. I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but those are just my thoughts on that.
