“Can’t learn anything super-effective against fighting-types” actually, Bidoof can learn Pluck via TM, and you get that in Floaroma Town, so it could also potentially have been useful for the grass gym. You only get one copy though, so you’d have to keep it for the rest of the game for all the Heracross. Rattata can also learn it, but Meowth can’t.

Just wanted to give a suggestion of how you could've maybe beaten this: if you had a Bidoof with Simple as its ability, you could use Curse to get +2 Attack +2 Defense -2 Speed, and then combined with Rest that should give you a decent shot against the elite four! Either way, fun video, and I'm looking forward to the next one!

I thought of this, but I think the one issue that he'd have with simple is that stuff like intimidate and sand attack become even more obnoxious. Simple's a pretty cool ability, but I dunno if it's a game winner here.

have you thought of using nature gift in your runs? it's a 1 use move per battle, but its a customizable attack that can make battle much easier. at least it can make some battles a little easier

Oh man, what a fun run! Bidof, to me, in alot of ways just has that lovable derpy look that pokemon like Ekans have. Like... its hard to explain, like its just an animal doing animal things? Like when you look at Blastoise its got that whole "Im a turtle with guns, rawr" or Meowth has that "Im like a cat... but gangsta!" But Bidoof is just so normal, and I love it

13:50 If you haven't, please consider using your buffing moves more. You can use Defense Curl more than to just empower Rollout. If you can get 6 defense increases you'll take less damage, so Lucario will heal less from drain punch, and you'll have more time to hit it and the other pokemon. And more chances for Ice Beam to get a freeze.

Curse + Return Simple Bidoof is the most common set for it and it's evolution, plus in later games its given both aqua jet and waterfall (as a bidoof I think it already learns them both as Bibarrel) making it a really good lower tier competitive mon.

I'd love to see MDB do a Gold challenge run with only Seaking (oil paintings, oil paintings, Seaking). The Special split in Gen 2 means its STAB moves hit about as hard as a first-form starter, and its coverage is laughably bad for a fully-evolved Water-type. Barring that, some more Meowth runs would be cool too. :)

Spoilers for the video: One thing that you can do in an impossible run like this is that you can evolve your pokemon to see if it's impossible with the whole line or if you can beat with its evolved form. For example, if you are doing a MEOWTH run in platinum and you realize that it's impossible to beat your rival you can use PKhax to change your level to 99, than lvl him up once more to evolve and try again.

I actually completed this exact challenge around lvl 90 a bunch of years ago. Simple + Curse is the way to go with EV training, and I grinded a bunch of Heart Scales and money for TMs so I could change my moveset regularly.

Things you missed: -Bidoof's other ability, simple, is one of the best in the game. You should have used it + Curse. You would build insane ATK and DEF. Your ideal moveset should have been return/curse/yawn/ice beam. I believe you could have won the run with this moveset. Not picking Simple ability kinda doomed the run at the beggining. -You tend to forget that move relearner and move tutor exists in theese games. Idk why. You tend to think the ONLY solution is leveling up and trying again and again. Aqua tail and last resort are learnable in platinum for example. And getting the shards to trade for the move aren't hard. And rollout is very bad and unreliable. -you should try to use the move relearner more. I am sure you could have one shot that lucario with super power, which your bidoof learn at level 41. You waste more time grinding than adapting. Idk why you do this.

have you ever considered in these runs when you know you've failed the main challenge of you just start to remove rules and see how many rules remain ) so if you're super stuck you can use items, if that doesn't unstickl then you can use multiple of the same pokemon....after that then it's a complete failure, but would be interesting to see if items would help these stuck situations
