Dunsparce is actually based off of the Tsuchinoko a yokai and interestingly almost every decision about its design has basis in myth. The wings allude to its ability to double jump, the nubs on its chin are for its poisonous nature and even its shape as Tsuchinoko are very plump. Even its movelist has a lot of layers to its inspiration. Like with roll out is its ability to bite its tail and rolls up into a ball and roll around. If you want all the details Gaijin Goombah did a video about it.

Dunsparce is based off the Tsuchinoko, a small, flat, serpent from Japanese mythology. Sometimes depicted with wings, sometimes not. The name isn't so much of a pun as it's a cutesy version of tsuchinoko, taking the "noko" and adding "chi". Like how a kid would talk about their pet.

I think the mistake may have come from the anime, since they did get at least one or two Normal-types mistaken to be a Ground-type. Also, personal story, Dunsparce was the first full odds Shiny that I have ever caught. I caught it in Pokémon Black one day out of luck.

Silver was my first Pokémon game and I did indeed think Dunsparce must be a ground type, maybe ground-flying, because of the Pokedex description. I also thought it must be great because of its rarity. Ha ha.

I thought it was part ground. Gen 2 is the one I never played and whenever I encounter one it had some groundish move, it’s colors and the drill threw me off too. You learn something new everyday.

Dunsparce always made me think of the Japanese mythological creature "Tsuchinoko". Its depicted as a flat-ish bodied snake that is rather fat with a very small end tail. Its also supposed to be exceedingly rare and if found grants great luck and fortune. Kinda like how its encounter rate in the original game was so low and tied to swarm mechanic. You just had to 'Luck out' to get one easily, else you'd be running around in dark cave early bumping into walls back and forth.

Always think I'll get bored of these but nope. Every week. Here I am.

Challenge idea I've almost completed. Fair warning it is a bit tedious. The challenge, newest capture only. Any time you encounter a wild Pokémon you have not captured you must capture it and use only that Pokémon in battle until your next encounter. This means only training against wild Pokémon you have already captured and against trainers. It's interesting to see how you can try and manipulate encounters by only training in specific areas to ‘save’ an encounter for a later battle, like against certain gym leaders or significant battles. If you fail to capture a new Pokémon for any reason you must reset. If you encounter an evolution line you have already captured you must not capture it again e.g. already caught a Caterpie then encounter Metapod you can kill the Metapod for xp or flee but cannot capture it. Additional rules: evolutions allowed, HM slaves not allowed, no repels, (this makes it quite difficult, maybe outright impossible depending on the game).

Dunsparce is one of my favourites :) It has beaten my friend's teams by flinching/paralyzing all their Pokemon :D

Dunsparce is one of my favorite pokemon in general. I remember the first time finding it in Gold and thinking it was some super overpowered mons. I love using a Serene Grace/Ancient Power set in Gen 8.
