Dunsparce is actually based off of the Tsuchinoko a yokai and interestingly almost every decision about its design has basis in myth. The wings allude to its ability to double jump, the nubs on its chin are for its poisonous nature and even its shape as Tsuchinoko are very plump. Even its movelist has a lot of layers to its inspiration. Like with roll out is its ability to bite its tail and rolls up into a ball and roll around. If you want all the details Gaijin Goombah did a video about it.

Thank you for admitting that the "Blaine's team" run was just an Arcanine run. You should have started with Ponyta because it starts with ember. I never thought Dunsparce was ground type. @@freckdgaf4834 You are absolutely correct. Dunsparce looks like a first stage pokémon that should evolve. Dragonflies have a larval stage. It swims in the water and becomes a dragonfly when it gets enough nutrients. Mosquitoes also have a larval stage that is water bound. In pokémon Dunsparce is found in the Dark Cave east of Violet City. This cave has a large water source and is so dark flash is needed to see. Dunsparce has what looks to be closed eyes.

Dunsparce is based off the Tsuchinoko, a small, flat, serpent from Japanese mythology. Sometimes depicted with wings, sometimes not. The name isn't so much of a pun as it's a cutesy version of tsuchinoko, taking the "noko" and adding "chi". Like how a kid would talk about their pet.

It is REALLY good this early on, and would’ve been even better on Dunsparce because of serene grace. 70 base power, 20 PP. You can get it right after nugget bridge if you encounter the camper blocking it as low as possible, letting you slip past. It’s similar to return, in that almost anything can learn it

You probably could rollout sweep agatha once you have speed. Speed ev rollout dunsparce probably beats elite 4 below level 70. Defense Curl rollout is easily the best move for solo challenges from my experience.

They are supposed to be some this kind of small sand snake with a very flat, wide belly. There is no evidence that they actually exist. As far as I can tell, they are a bit like Big Foot or the Loch Ness Monster, there are claims of sightings once in a while, but no scientific evidence that holds up.

I love Dunsparce and I'm totally hoping it gets some love in Scarlet/Violet! But I definitely always think it's ground type! Every time!

When it comes to Dunsparce, I was told when I was young when he got to lvl 100, he evolved into a Dragon/Ground type.

Fun fact: if you randomize a ROM in order to randomize TMs and make them 100% compatibility (ie any pokemon can learn any move), but don't randomize natures, Serene Grace Dunsparce is a great pokemon for a move like Tri Attack.

Definitely thought it was ground type, and when i saw Drampa was coming out for Pokemon Sun and Moon, and I thought "IS DUNSPARCE GETTING AN EVOLUTION?!" Unfortunately, that wasnt it.

When I first played the gen 2 games, I thought it was a ground type as well but quickly discarded it after I discovered it was normal typed with weak level up moves. I was surprised by how good it's coverage was in this generation, but I also expected it to win at a lower level as well. It seemed like Agatha was the big problem.

I thought for sure that Dunsparce was a bug type. Or maybe bug/rock. Ground makes sense too. But normal? Ok then...

Grinding on lorelie isn't the best idea because you are gonna lose to bruno afterwards. In a run that you are using return you don't want to faint cause your friendship is gonna get lowered meaning that the output of return is gonna get smaller despite you leveling up. But I have to admit that your videos are very entertaining

When you run specs dunsparce on low ladder showdown you can always get something out of it lol, fire blast ice beam thunderbolt + special move of your choice is like the most hillarious thing ever if it did something. Even a trolly max speed thunder wave+flinching moves set is quite fun. Love dunspace

Dunsparce reminds me of the small dodongos in the cavern in Ocarina of Time. They dig out from the sand in the game so that's why I assumed it is a ground type.

So I never thought he was Ground type but it would make sense. It has a Drill for a tail and all of its Pokedex entries talk about it burrowing underground. I as a kid thought Dunsparce was a Dragon type for some reason and held that belief until fighting Clair.

I think the mistake may have come from the anime, since they did get at least one or two Normal-types mistaken to be a Ground-type. Also, personal story, Dunsparce was the first full odds Shiny that I have ever caught. I caught it in Pokémon Black one day out of luck.

Silver was my first Pokémon game and I did indeed think Dunsparce must be a ground type, maybe ground-flying, because of the Pokedex description. I also thought it must be great because of its rarity. Ha ha.

I thought it was part ground. Gen 2 is the one I never played and whenever I encounter one it had some groundish move, it’s colors and the drill threw me off too. You learn something new everyday.

Dunsparce always made me think of the Japanese mythological creature "Tsuchinoko". Its depicted as a flat-ish bodied snake that is rather fat with a very small end tail. Its also supposed to be exceedingly rare and if found grants great luck and fortune. Kinda like how its encounter rate in the original game was so low and tied to swarm mechanic. You just had to 'Luck out' to get one easily, else you'd be running around in dark cave early bumping into walls back and forth.

Challenge idea I've almost completed. Fair warning it is a bit tedious. The challenge, newest capture only. Any time you encounter a wild Pokémon you have not captured you must capture it and use only that Pokémon in battle until your next encounter. This means only training against wild Pokémon you have already captured and against trainers. It's interesting to see how you can try and manipulate encounters by only training in specific areas to ‘save’ an encounter for a later battle, like against certain gym leaders or significant battles. If you fail to capture a new Pokémon for any reason you must reset. If you encounter an evolution line you have already captured you must not capture it again e.g. already caught a Caterpie then encounter Metapod you can kill the Metapod for xp or flee but cannot capture it. Additional rules: evolutions allowed, HM slaves not allowed, no repels, (this makes it quite difficult, maybe outright impossible depending on the game).
