Not only do they both have T in their name, they are also water type and every single ability including the hidden ability has T in it, the only attacking move it would be able to use is rapid spin because the other moves it learn either has a T in it or is water type, and to top it off, as if it wasn't already bad enough, to evolve it would need to use a waTer sTone from the deparTmenT sTore, these two are so banned in this challenge it's actually hilarious XD

Fr in german he could've used Squirtle because its name is Schiggy, then the evolutions are Schilok and Turtok, so he wouldn't have been allowed to evolve it into Turtok. The only available starter he could've fully evolved in german would've been Bulbasaur, because Charmeleon is called Glutexo😭

They likely only added Misdreavus into the game because they needed a ghost that wasn’t part poison and because dark was a common-ish weakness for ghost. And you can only get it just before Red anyways.

Would be even harder in German. The entire bulbasaur line would be possible namewise, but the ability is called NoTdünger and the secondary poison type (GifT) has a t in its name. Squirtle and Warturtle would be possible namewise (blastoise isn’t), but the ability is called STurzbach. Charmander is possible namewise and also with the ability, but you can’t evolve it, as Charmeleon (GluTexo) has a t in it. But then: Scratch (KraTzer) and Ember (GluT) have a t in the name. To get an attack that does damage, without a t in the name by level up, you’d have to wait for Flamethrower (Flammenwurf) (in other games you’d learn rage (Raserei) a bit earlier, but that’s not the case in firered/leafgreen). So to beat the game in the early game, you would have to catch a pokemon without a t, that learns a move, without a t in it. On route 1: Both Pidgey (Taubsi) and Rattata (Rattfratz) have a t in their name. So they are not possible. On route 22: Spearow is no option, due to being called HabiTak, the Nidorans are no option due to being poison type and Mankey is no option, due to it’s ability (the second ability without a t was only introduced in gen4). On Route 2: You can’t catch Weedle, due to the poison type, but you can catch Caterpie (Raupy), but in gen3 it does not learn any offensive attack, without a t in the name and you can only evolve it to metapod (Safcon), as butterfree (Smettbo) has a t in its name. In the Viridian forest you can’t catch Pikachu, as it is an electric type and has static as its ability. There was one last option I thought about: Theoretically you would be allowed to use struggle, as it does not have a t in its german name. So you could try leveling up by defeating pokemon with struggle. But sadly there is no way to trigger struggle, as there are no pokemon that are catchable AND don’t have any move with a t in it (even metapods harden (Härtner) is spelled with a t in German). So fire red and leaf green are impossible to beat in German, without using the letter t. And in the other games: You have to start with the fire starter in every game (due to the abilities) and while every fire starter is possible name-wise, you would have to catch another pokemon, cause no fire starter starts with an attacking move without a t. So, no matter which game you play, you would need a second pokemon that you can catch before you meet someone that you have to beat, that does not have a t in its type, name, ability or attacking moves. I don’t know if there is a game, where this is possible (it certainly is not possible in any gen1 or gen3 game and their remakes).

What can not be utilized in the run: 1. Clicks text; text starts with T. 2. Choosing the character is prohibited as a character has the letter T and even if it didn't a character has height and weight which both have the letter T. 3. Every direction and button is banned because North, East, South and West all have the letter T. Or if you refer to the directions as being up, down, left, right 2 of those directions have the letter T. 4. Watch Television (TV) is banned. 5. Using Stairs is prohibited because Stairs has a T. 6. Entering and exiting places are prohibited. 7. All Routes. 8. All Cities. 9. Haunted Mansion. 10. Indigo Plateau. 11. Elite 4. 12. Choosing a Starter pokemon. Because not only does starter havethe letter T but also the frame you pick the starter on and the Trainer ID manipulate the stats of the starter and pokemon will always have stats and stats consists of the word T. 13. Each pokeon has an attack stat, special attack stat HP (Health Points), PP (power points) which all have the letter T. Each pokemon has EV's (Effort Values). Also all pokeon have types and types start with T. 14. Textboxes. 15. Pokemarts. 16. Pokemon Centers. 17. He is a Trainor with a Trainor Identification (trainor has the letter T and so does identification). 18. Fighting trainers who have T in their name (the rival's name is T). 19. Swapping pokemon and fighting pokeon that start with T (Rattata is an example that occurs). 20. Evolution has a T and is therefore prohibited. 21. The HM's(Hidden Machines) Cut and Strength has to be used to enter the gym in Vermillion City and move the boulder in Victory Road. Both of which have the letter T. And all TM's (Technical Machines) are prohibited. 22. Beating the Nugget bridge and collecting the nugget. 23. Critical hits occured which has 2 letter T's. 24. Fighting pokemon (pressing battle is necessary to do so) or using pokemon with the letter T in name, type or nature. 25. Collecteing Items that have the letter T (Poke Flute). 26. Using attacks that are type effective are prphibited because the text "it's super effective" and "not very effective" which both have the letter T. 27. "Slots" has the letter T and can't be used. 28. Can't use any typed moves as typed starts with T. 29. PC stands for Personal Computer which has a T in it. 30. There was points in the run where pokemon were at levels that their number starts with T or the pokedex entry total started with T (an example is eight). 31. The word status is used whenever you use an antidote, burn heal, paralyze heal etc. so the use of those items "status items" is banned. Pokemon even getting burned, frozen, paralyzed or a poisoned status is banned. 32. Any balls that have T in the name is banned (Great ball, Ultra Ball, Master Ball, Nest Ball etc.) Also catching any pokemon with any ball is banned as the Old Man shows you how to "catch" a pokemon by "throwing" a poke ball. 33. Any type of mail that has the letter T is banned an example is Retro Mail. 34. Any pokedex description of a pokemon that consists the letter T. 35. Catching pokemon 36. Selecting the fight option in battle. Also, pressing start or select is prohibited. 37. Using pokegear to "talk" with trainers is nit allowed. If you read the textboxes in the early game the word talk comes up a lot with rarely any synonyms, although they do exist, they are almost non-existant in the game. 38. Any stones including the everstone can't be owned or held as both have the letter T. If anything was missed would appreciate feedback.

Moving lefT and righT or if we want to get cardinal directions in on this norTh souTh easT and wesT. Though you can also argue that this is just Traveling. Let's also not forget that HP is prohibited as it stands hiT/healTh poinTs. You also can't forget that enTering places is also prohibited. You can't baTTle as there are 2 T's in that. You also can't use any pokéballs as you use them to caTch pokémon by Throwing them. WaTching Television is also not allowed.

@@Quackra Thaks for the suggestions, I have edited the list. The only conflict I had was the argument of simply traveling. Sure it may be small and insignificant but that's what this list is so I added that too. I didn’t explain that in my post because I am not sure if the word traveling is actually used in-game and there are synonyms that exist that don't start with T. In order for me to include a word the game must use the word at some point. For example, I know when the Old Man gives you the tutorial to "catch a pokemon" he "throws a pokeball".

That would mean the only way to heal is Mom at home, but you don't have access to her during a large chunk of the game, so realistically you would need to be massively overleveled to get through without healing.

Berry trees don't exist because timed events don't exist (needed a battery), the regen is just tied to step count.

I was expecting a mod where every t in the game text is erased and the idea is that you have to decipher the what the game is telling you. On second thought, removing all vowels would be an actual challenge.

ur the only other person who actually noticed this and had a working brain. it wouldnt be for wat u think tho. its not the word its self that would ruin the run. NPC dialogue at the start and in general is unavoidable to progress the story and the game. its actually the fact that starter pokemon is a term used to discribe giving the chosen pokemon to a new pokemon trainer as their 1st pokemon to start their adventure with. thats what the term means.

I actually think this is better than Type Locks, they are interesting the first few times around but a mono locke eventually just gets dull. Taking a letter away is actually really interesting and would cancel out Pokemon you might not expect
