It depends. Nidoking and Ryhorn are ATK beasts. The main problem would be Lorelei's team so you need to either outspeed it with a high physical move to one shot everything or learn toxic and try to outlast them. It maybe a situation where you have to level up to brute force it but I don't see it being unbeatable but it maybe a run where you just have to get lucky. Also Nidoking can learn Thunder so that can help with half the team.

I found and downloaded the ROM, mostly because I really wanted to know what it's PokeDex entry was, but it also has the base stats as an image in the same location, they are as follows: HP: 65 ATK: 80 DEF: 90 Sp. ATK: 70 Sp. DEF: 85 SPD: 50 Total: 440

@@That-Fox Really interesting. The BST is less than the average of a Gyarados and Onix (which would be 462.5), with most of the stats lying somewhere between the two, but not all. Special attack is actually 10 points higher than Gyarados and speed is 20 points lower than Onix.

I've been doing a zigzagoon/linoone run in Sapphire version. The first 3 badges are brutal. Roxanne's team and Watson's Megneton are just brick walls due to the lack of TMs available in the early game.

Coincidentally, had MDB replaced Squirtle with Magikarp, his Rival would have also had a Wateronix, as I assume the palette and type swap is unique to the rom he's using, it means that any rival Gyarados would in fact, be Water Onix

I suggest a Red/Blue run with only Magmar. If you look at its move list you’ll understand why. If you want throw in no Tms for added challenge I’m pretty sure magmar would have one of if not the highest base stat total for a mon in a single run that you’ve done so far.
