OMG. When I first got Ruby, I managed to catch 2 Skitty and evolved 1 into a Delcatty and I WRECKED everybody in the game. Got them up to Lv100 and had hella killer moves. Like Ice Beam, Solarbeam, Thunderbolt and Assist on my Skitty and Blizzard, Solarbeam, Shadow Ball and Thunderbolt on my Delcatty. It was the best duo, especially in double battles. I wrecked EVERYBODY. Lol, I love Skitty and Delcatty so much.

@@passedjudgements4729 IIRC it's because linked moves Tail Whip + Tail Slap hit for way more than any pokemon can in a single turn. Even bosses drop in 1, 2 o 3 turns.

@@passedjudgements4729 it is mostly accorded to 2 reasons: attract and normal type. in the first mystery dungeon games there are no genders and attract works the same against every pokemon (even genderless ones). the other reason is that it has access to tail whip and normal stab moves - since move linking exists, you can link tail whip into tackle into /double slap or facade and rush through bosses quite well. especially if you have a partner like squirtle which can also join the tail whip effort. this is the run for reference: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5qTd3Srjbudmqc anyway. the world record in the video has been broken by now. also in the category it was submitted in people use meowth with frustration link spam to cheese fights apparently basically what i have noticed from the leaderboards is - the categories which allow you to quick-save and use wondermail, meowth seems to be the better choice, while in the categories which go past beating sky pillar or disallow you to use wondermail and quick saving, skitty is superior so it is one of the 2 top tier choices for speed running and arguably the best choice for normal gameplay since it learns all it needs by level up and has attract as a fail safe option. here are the leaderboards for this game and different categories if you wanna see for yourself: www.speedrun.com/pmdredblue#Any_-_ENG

Damian M an actual answer is the attract thing already mentioned, although it’s not used that much, and the ability normalize - changing all moves to normal type, which receive stab bonus. This plus the available moves tail whip, tackle and faint attack all linked make for an easy last 1:30:00 to the game (darkness/time/sky). As for the majority of a speed run in pmd2, skitty has one of the highest starting attack and defence stats, making it perfect for no WM any% runs, which is why it’s not used in WM runs as you avoid battles in WM

@@ejokurirulezz Usually your only option to hit her supereffectively is a traded machop in the department store. Her Miltank, if you're not prepared, hits like a truck with Stomp and building five rollouts, which it usually can because it's fairly tanky, and if it misses and has to reset, it can just heal itself, undoing the progress you made. I suppose you could have Heracross, if you were one of the kids who knew they existed in trees with a 1% chance in Azalea Town, but I know I wasn't. Then, combined with the low level of the trainers around her gym, you aren't really gonna be her level, especially if you're like me and try to keep all your pokemon the same level. Entering her gym 3-5 levels lower than her doesn't usually end well. Even the starter, even though I believe it's usually a Quilava by now, only still knows Ember as a STAB move and I'm not lucky with burns, and Rollout is super-effective. From what I remember, Rollout is the biggest reason I always struggle with Whitney. Usually have nothing to stop her streak of destruction with the move, and I'm never a fan of pokemon like Geodude that could probably make the fight a lot easier, too. I usually play on Crystal, which I don't think has Sandshrew (who I adore is the line is in my top ten in Pokemon), but I could be mistaken. Anyway, five month old comment, but thought I'd share some insight.

I have an idea for a challenge! Can I beat Pokemon H/G/S with only hoppip? Lemme explain: Hoppip is the worst grass type Pokemon in them games and it has many weaknesses due to it's typing on grass/ flying. It's got no stab flying moves AT ALL up and it only has one grass stab in it's learnset being mega drain at level 30- with it's poor special attack though, that isn't good. Plus it's stats are appalling, only totalling to 250 with just a few stats making it past 50; It has no coverage moves at all and I think it would be a good challenge to test you!

Actually, I found out about you because of this video. It was in my recommended. Honestly, I love Skitty. I know it isn't the best Pokemon, but she has always been my favorite, hands down. So seeing this challenge got my attention! I know it was difficult, but I'm glad you pulled it off! I actually got really lucky fighting the Aggron in ORSA. One of my Pokemon was defeated so I send Skitty in knowing she is fast. She also has Wake-Up Slap in her movelist. But Aggron's health was in the red, so Steven healed it. But Skitty held on in the next round, and she was indeed faster, so it only took three Wake-Up Slaps to put Aggron down!

Fun fact: in gen 3 dark type attacks were classified as special attacks, with it being a special attack you could of swapped it for used shadow ball for the last battle because it had 40 extra potency. I know I'm commenting late here, but it would kinda be cheating or at minimum crippling the poor thing. Assist is a metronome that draws from the moveset of the other Pokemon in the party, so I could see MDB as counting that as not using one skitty. He could catch others and gamble for their moves instead of just gambling on hers

Ruby and sapphire feel so unfinished because the team making them was time crunching like hell and the director was convinced nobody even liked pokemon anymore and had nightmares about the game flopping. Makes you wish emerald kept steven and wallace as the champion and 8th gym, and they didn't cut some of the pokemon out. Probably some weird executive decision.
