The Gen 7 hate is so severe that he skipped over all of the gameplay improvements and new standards Sun and Moon set: - Regional Variants - Removal of HMs in favor of Ride Pokemon - Putting Rotom into the Pokedex (Which Gen 7 does the best out of every iteration of this concept) - Ultra Beasts establishing the concept of a class of pokemon that are distinctly different from regular Pokemon (Carried over in Paradox Pokemon) - Z moves establishing new battle mechanics that can apply to *every catchable pokemon* instead of only a select few (like Mega Evolutions) - Totem Pokemon being the precursor to raids *and* Alpha Pokemon in Legends Arceus *and* Titan Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet(He only touched on its relation to raids) Like, I get that people don't like how dialogue heavy Sun and Moon are or that the routes aren't as expansive. But those issues are *worse* in Sword and Shield. At least Sun and Moon gives you the agency to walk from point A to point B on your own without getting stopped by 3 NPCs who inist you need directions to a location you can *see on the screen*. Lastly, while Scarlet and Violet suffers from the worst bugs/performance issues of the franchise and some really bad graphics, it's arguably one of the best stories we've gotten in the series too. Not to mention the characters, I think the only one people legitimately hate is Geeta, and even then she's not really that bad she's just bland compared to the rest of the cast. Most of the other rankings are completely understandable but the general disconnect for these three is mind boggling.

@UtopieKid2 ай бұрын
Regional Variants were one of the best additions to the franchise, agreed. The removal of HMs came with the price of incredibly dumbed down level design, ultra beasts and Z-moves suck. The former look incredibly stupid and the latter was terrible from a gameplay perspective since you never knew which Pokemon carried a random one-button nuke, plus the animations were way too long and the trainer dance when executing it looks incredibly stupid. Totem Pokemon were okay but they basically were the substitute for gym battles and that was underwhelming whereas raids in SS and SV were side content. Performance issues affect the experience in open world games a lot more than they do in linear games because you spend a lot of time just running around, hardly a surprise that it severely affected his opinion on the games.

Most of the hate for BDSP (which is valid imo) comes from the fact that the last remakes we got were ORAS, and we wanted Sinnoh to get revamped in a similar way. We went from firered leafgreen, having 386, heartgold soulsilver with 493, Omega Ruby Aplha Sapphire sporting 721, to Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl with… the same 493 from Gen 4… You’re telling me a 3DS can fit 800+ Pokémon, also regional forms, and mega Pokémon models on one cartridge, but this Nintendo switch cartridge, which we’ve seen them hold massive games like Xenoblade and Skyrim, can’t handle the generation eight nat dex? That’s a load of Bouffalant manure. BDSP had the potential to be the competitive game for generation eight Nat dex. Instead, it was a barely functional inferior remake. The only thing it had going for it over ORAS was not shiny locking the starters and legendaries.

13 reasons why BDSP are the WORST remakes of all time: 1. Faithfulness: Unlike other remakes, BDSP literally copy/pastes 90% of diamond/pearl(2006). You cannot copy almost everything from a 2006 game.. (Remember its a remake not a remaster!). Almost everything is copied: All dialogs, the storyline, the chibi art style, the national dex, old pokemon encounters and even the Poketch were copy & pasted to this game. Pokemon games have been improved in the past years and had many quality of life changes like 3D art style, overworld Pokemon encounters and reusable TMs. None of these changes were adapted to the game which is just sad. This game is too faithful and faithful sounds more like a excuse for lazyness. 2. Not-Platinum-Based: So they copy & pasted 90% from the old Sinnoh game but not based on Platinum? Diamond & Pearl had several weaknesses and Platinum fixed many of them and included many Quality of Life changes. Here are some Platinum improvements over Diamond/Pearl: It extends the storyline with additional content, new dialogs, new characters like Charon and a new map Distortion world (loved it). The rival was a bit too weak in Diamond/Pearl which was fixed in Plat. The Poketch has a reverse Button. It has the battle frontier. And finally: the Sinnoh dex which was baaad in Dia/Pearl was fixed. The bad sinnoh dex in dia/pearl has only very few Fire Pokemon (very weird). Gym leaders were forced to use weird mons in the main game like Electric gym leader using Octillery or IceType gym leader using Medicham (WTF? Despite Sinnoh having enough Ice/Electric mons) and also many sinnoh mons were restricted to the postgame. Thats means many of the favourite sinnoh mons cannot be used in your team for the main story. But Platinum fixed this issue and created a NEW sinnoh dex which fixed all these issues which made the main story like a sinnoh game. ALL of these great changes of Platinum where NOT included in BDSP. This means BDSP uses the OLD sinnoh dex, OLD dialogs, OLD storyline, NO new character like Charon, NO distortion world and NO battle frontier. That makes BDSP a worse Sinnoh remake than Platinum which was released in 2008. (Imagine a 2008 DS game of the same Region beats you in ALL aspects. WTF) 3. EXP-Share & Friendship-System: One of the most hated features is the EXP-Share system which often leads to WAY more exp than in the past games. In my opinion, the EXP-Share is not too bad. BUT diamond/pearl were not designed to be played with the new EXP-Share system. So if you include an EXP-Share system, you have to increase all levels of the pokemon (from opponent). But they didnt which makes the difficulty of this game too easy.Basically, my whole team was too oveleveled. And the friendship-system is the worst luck-based system i ever saw. A feature that increases the Critical hit-chance,removes paralysis, lets me dodge 100% accurate moves and even lets me survive moves with 1HP. WTF did you smoke gamefreak? And the worst is that, you cannot make any of these optional. Because of that many players who love to do a nuzzlock in Sinnoh, prefer the old DS games. 4. No Innovation: This game not only copy & pastes the majority of its content, it adds nothing new to the game. Lets review some good remakes: HeartGold/SoulSilver (HG/SS) were Gen 2 remakes and included some storyline from Crystal and added many new stuff like the pokeathlon, battle frontier (from sinnoh), gen 1 map/storyline, a complete national dex and the pokewalker. HG/SS were not copy & pasted, but actually remade the game and added good new stuff. Also Alpha ruby&omega saphire (ORAS) have new changes like new art-style , new designs for Team magma/aqua, new Mega-forms, new Primal forms, changes to dialogs and storyline and the complete national dex. BDSP on the other hand does not provide any kind of major change in the game which makes this game really boring. It does have a new Underground which has overworld pokemon, but that is nothing special for 2022 and the ramanas park was neat but nothing too exciting. 5. Underground/Super-Contest: The old underground allowed to create your own living room with furnitures and set traps to troll friends online. Both were removed for a statue system which is really boring. Collecting statues and the effects of the statues are really disapointing. The Super-Contest used to be a fun-mode where you had many different options and varities and had to have good reflexes to do the correct moves at the correct time. Now all you have to do is Press A at the correct time and use 1 attack. That makes this mode so boring and disapointing. I mean, was it really that hard to let the player press like 4 different buttons instead of just 'A'?? 6. Art-Style: Many of us expected a modern review of Sinnoh in a 3D human like Art-style. But they decided to go for the Chibi-Art-Style. Everyone has different tastes but in my opinion the Chibi-Art-Style ruins many serious moments of the story line of this game, especially vs team galactic. It feels like all the emotions of the characters were removed. The reason why it was used in Diamond/Pearl was because of the limited hardware. In my opinion the Chibi-Art-Style waas the wrong decision and does not suit a switch game at all. 7. Only Gen 4: BDSP has a national dex which includes the pokemon from Gen 1-4 which is basically the same as Diamond/Pearl. As a player who would have loved to see at least some Pokemon from Gen 5-8 in Sinnoh, i am very disappointed. At least some Pokemon post Gen4, or some new forms or at least add Sylveon in this game. Not even mega-forms were included in this game. The fact that 95% of the megas are from Gen1-4 and the underground being the perfect place to grind the mega-stones, makes this decision even more disapointing. The reason why diamond/pearl was limited to Gen 1-4 was because there werent any other new pokemon. The reason why BDSP limited the game to Gen 1-4 is because of lazyness.. 8. PVP: On of the worst things in this game is everything arround PVP. The worst disrespect a main series pokemon game can get, is when GameFreak calls that all the competitive tournaments including the world championship will not take place in BDSP (WTF?). Unlike Sword/Shield, you have no option to search for PVP matches which makes it way harder to find battles. But the worst thing is the grind for a PvP team: TMs are not reusable (WHY?!). For some important TMs like Earthquake, you have to grind for 80BP (WTF. Thats a lot of Grind). Also you cannot catch pokemon with hidden abilities except those from poke radar. To get the hidden ability you have to grind for the ability patch for 200BP (WTF. Grind competitive to create a competitive. Nice system). By putting important PVP items behind such ridiculously high grind walls, it makes creating a PVP team disgusting. 9. Events: The events were also copy & pasted from Diamond/Pearl. Same Shaymin event, same Darkrai event. And other events are only accesible if you bought other main series pokemon game (Why..). And finally some garbage "events" which include some useless statues. Meanwhile, the 3 year old SW/SH getting better and innovative events like new PVP cups/tournaments and some legendary shinies. In my opinion the events in BDSP are disapointing. 10. Bugs/Glitches: Holy Moly! This game had so many bugs and glitches! You dont even need hacks, when the game itself has to many glitches. Many of them where completely broken. Many Pokemon clone glitches and item dupe glitches ruined the game. You could even get infinity money, create your own shinies (WTF), make your pokemon 6IV and let any Pokemon learn any move. I used to be in a discord for trading in BDSP and because of the glitches, the trade market was only about getting shiny 6IVs etc. Not to forget to mention the soft locks which made you restart the whole game which can happen for example in the ice gym. Usually every games has a few bugs. But this one had too many and too many game breaking glitches. A very hyped game like this shouldnt be developed by a 3rd party company.. But Gamefreak had other plans.. 11. Controls: The controls of this game feel weird and uncomfortable. Characters move in a grid which looks so weird during the storyline. The pokemon who follow me often block me in a bad way. The underground has many inivisible walls which makes moving in some rooms horrible. And finally the control with the cycle are the worst. The cycle in pokemon games are a beloved feature but in this game.. It feels so uncomfortable moving with the cycle, I sometimes even prefer walking. 12. Standards: A 2021 game should adapt the standards from the latest games (Sword 2019). The BDSP-standard isnt nearly as good as Sword/Shield. Many items, many attack moves, renewable TMs, dynamax, new pokemon, old moves without heart scales, more customization,max Raids or ranked battle stadium. None of the mentioned were adapted into this game -> BIG Downgrade for 2021 pokemon standards! 13. Price: Dia/pearl/Platinum: 40$ and Copy/Paste BDSP with Bugs:60$ -> Bruh.. Conclusion: It feels like GameFreak didnt want to do a Sinnoh remake but wanted to milk some money by releasing the highly demanded Sinnoh remake. The fact that, they hired a 3rd party company who never developed a major game, only supports this theory. Not forget to mention that, BDSP had a giant day one patch which was essential to enjoy the game. The fact that they released Legends Arceus almost 1-2 months after BDSP release also supports the theory, that they didnt care at all for this remake. Because of the release of Legends Arceus, the hiring of ILCA, the amount of glitches, the boring events, the exclusion of VGC, the 0 Innovation in this game and the fact that the majority of the game is copy & paste of a 2006 game (Dia/Pearl) which is worse than a 2008 Game (Platinum), makes this game the worst remake of all time in my opinion.

For BDSP what I don’t understand is why give us platinum dex mons when you can’t get their evolutions until the postgame. You can catch Gligar in the underground but because it’s an almost identical remake you can’t evolve it into gliscor during the main story without outside help because in DP the item to evolve Gligar was locked in the postgame because the DP dex doesn’t have most of the new Sinnoh evolutions in it.

While I understand newer players might need more help, it's not fair to alienate your longtime players by forcing it on them. Ultimately, I think they need to implement a difficulty setting or at least a choice for players to skip the tutorial session that those that want/need to extra guidance can have it while the players that know what a Pokemon is(because they always feel the need to explain it to us) can get on with the adventure.

Even the Wild Area, this big open expanse of land and.... There's nothing really there except pokemon and raid dens. No cute/interesting story interactions, barely any trainer battles. I'm not one to hate on the games, I dont even care they didnt have the full dex in (Neither did Sun/Moon/Ulta for that matter), it's the fact it's an entirely shallow experience.

While I get Sun/Moon aren't for everyone, I think the Ultra games get a bad wrap. This is the first generation to remove HMs. The Exp share can be turned off so the player can choose when to level the whole party. Zygarde cells are a fun, casual side quest throughout the game. Ultra wormholes add a ton of legendaries and ultra beast battles like the wormholes in ORAS and random mon to encounter. While I think it's a little random, the Ultra Necrozma fight is a good challenge. Repeating the elite four has several alternate fights for you to defend your title. Team Rainbow Rocket is a fun boss gauntlet. SOS chaining is one of the most satisfying shiny hunting methods once you put in time to get a team for it. The Pokemon Archipelago is a fun side thing for growing berries, geting treasures or training. There's also optional areas and caves that can be revisited in the post game. I think the unskippable cutscenes give the game a bad reputation, but I've been going through to 100% the game and even just getting all of the TMs makes you see all of the side content I missed my first time. But it's personal preference in the end.

Deducting points because they dont explain everything about a mechanic thats deliberately meant to be unexplained is a little silly imo. The appeal of Paradox Pokemon and Ultra Beasts is that the player is meant to infer what they are, ESPECIALLY with paradox pokemon. IDK man maybe its different for other folks but I find that stories get cheapened when everything is explained and sometimes having some loose threads for the player/reader to piece together can give that piece of fiction an extra kick. Spoilers for SM/USUM and SV + DLC What we can infer about Ultra Beasts is that they come from alternate realities and are meant to be the Pokemon equivalent to alien invasion and invasive species that wreck havoc on ecosystems. We know that Ultra Space (the space between dimensions) is filled with Ultra Energy and the Gen 7 box legendaries are naturally atuned to it and can freely travel through ultra space. Necrozma can also travel through ultraspace but it feeds on that ultra energy. Ultra energy is also what causes Z-moves, and Beast Boost, and is essentially a form a light, and that are very important for the health of universes. We don't get more information on Ultra Beasts because they're a natural phenomenon in another world, meaning research opportunities are sparse, but they're just alt-reality pokemon, there's obviously infinite potential to explore there because any ultra beast is going to be just a piece of its natural ecosystem.. What we can infer from Paradox Pokemon is even less because they're brand-new discoveries and are deliberately kept secret from the general public due to where they're found and why they were brought to Paldea; literally almost no research has been done on them, the dex entries pull from dubious sources and paranormal journals -- they technically don't even have names in the traditional sense.They're the Pokemon answer to cryptids, and unearthly creatures from out of time you would see in pulp science fiction: dinosaurs in the center of the earth or robots from an apocalyptic future. We know that they were supposedly pulled out of time into the present, but due to the straight up contradictions in their existence, players started to speculate that they were infact figments of imagination brought to life by the Tera Phenomenon, which already seems to have some reality-bending abilities. However with the DLC the implication is that Paradox Pokemon come from alternate timelines, likely from the past or future, but from timelines that are likely disconnected from the timeline of the present-day story of SV. I think the Terastal phenonmenon is honestly as well-explained as Mega evolution and Dynamaxing (arguably better than Mega Evolution since there's technically two origins of mega evolution, kinda? The ultimate weapon and the ancient meteor?): they originate from an ancient legendary pokemon with that has a ridiculous power that has limited reality-warping abilities that allow Pokemon to change type, can allow for time travel and is weirdly corrosive? Pretty similar in concept to Dynamaxing, but with different applications; they just don't focus on the legendary compared to previous games until the DLC, and for once it's not portrayed as a villain, but just an animal with a over-powered defense mechanism. The fact that Terapagos arrived on Earth 2 million years ago makes it almost impossible to infer its origins or why its Terastal power exists, and that's the point. I think moreso than any other game in the series (except Red and Blue) SV's story deliberately leaves things to the imagination because of the atmosphere it's trying to create which hinges on its mystery. It answers things to an extent but leaves things to the imagination. Now I think it mostly pulls it off, but even I'll admit that I thought the DLC might have left a few too many things unanswered (HOW DID KIERAN REVIVE THE LOYAL THREE THO)

We didn't have new types since the OG gold and silver. Also the steel type was nerfed, not resisting dark and ghost anymore. That really changed the balance of the game alongside other changes like for the grass and electric types and they really didn't do anything like that before. The safari friend was really a neat feature to get hidden abilities and the breeding section was really overhauled making it way more accessible. That was the first gen I bread a lot of the pokedex and I know it was the same for a lot of ppl. @browncow52106 ай бұрын
As someone who was around from the start, here's about how I would work the generational duo entries based on quality of the system they're on and what came before: #9: Sword/Shield. Just plain bad. Almost no redeeming qualities and the postgame is paygated. The dex and megas were cut, and they lied about the reasons why. Outclassed as an RPG by DQ11. Maybe it's unfair because I skipped, but what I've seen really hasn't changed my mind. #8: Ruby/Sapphire. Very regressive from Gen 2. No content outside a bad playthrough story. Sacrificed freedom for a linear narrative that got copy/pasted over and over for most future games: 8 Badges in predetermined order, pointless friendly rival, and an evil team trying to catch an apocalyptic hellbeast to destroy the world for stupid reasons. Having opposing teams to try to add variety between the two versions was a neat idea, but they bungled that by barely having them use their elemental types. Music was too screechy to be enjoyable. Outclassed as an RPG by Golden Sun. #7: Black/White. Would these characters please SHUT UP?! It's frustratingly linear and story focused, but the story isn't interesting until the finale (which I admit was really cool), so it feels like I'm spending all my time mashing A through dialogue or biking back and forth until Audino spawns. The entire region is a straight line where you're literally handheld onto the first route. Recently did a Nuzlocke to try to make things more interesting, and it still felt like a slog. At least the postgame is decent. Good city/route themes, but underwhelming battle themes. I guess the biggest issue is how inconsequential they were in terms of new features, making them feel like filler. If you were to remove one generation and it's contributions, Gen 5 would be the least impactful. Way too many features were locked behind streetpass or a defunct online service that sounded like it was barely useable when it was running. Forcing you to play the main game with only new mons was a neat idea, but they compromised by probably having the worst designs in the franchise. Too many of them felt like 'we have gen 1 Pokemon at home.' Why couldn't you even farm berries without the dream world? The flaws aren't aggressively bad, but there are a lot of them and there isn't a whole lot positive to say here either. Definition of mid. #6: X/Y: Story was boring and way too easy, but this was pretty much the best time for the competitive scene. They finally corrected Gen 3's sin of the effort value system by making it transparent and giving you an easily accessible method of EV grinding without needing to consult the internet. Breeding for perfect Pokemon is reasonably doable for the first time with proper time investment. Also, Mega Evolutions were a great feature that gave specific old Pokemon a time to shine. Also some that really didn't need a buff. Fairy types were added, but I'm not sure if that really helped or hurt balance. Online access was peak in Gen 6. I have to dock them badly for the group xp share though. #5: Sun/Moon. Probably the second most story heavy games behind Black and White, but the story is finally original this time, and it revolves around some of the best characters in the series. The repeated story of Gen 3-6 had gotten really stale, so they finally came and shook things up. The boxart legend isn't going to destroy the world. Instead it's a friend that you watch grow who helps you out when you need it. The gym system is gone to take a crack at the more creative Totem boss fights. The evil team are just a goofy group of local drop outs who are kind of hard not to like. It's still a linear game, but at least it feels fresh. Oh, and HM's are gone. Z-Moves were kind of a flop compared to Megas, but that didn't stop me from causing havoc with Porygon-Z. Also I absolutely love Alola as a region. Being based on Hawaii with fitting music gives it fantastic atmosphere, and the whole place has a wonderful sense of family and community. I also really dig that they gave something for your boxed mons to do. #4: Scarlet/Violet. I kind of think about these games as the antithesis of Black and White. While those games were little high/little low, but overall skippable, Scarlet and Violet go to both extreme ends of quality. They are an embarrassingly glitchy and buggy mess that clearly needed more time in the oven. But if it weren't for that, I would probably put them at #1. They finally bucked the linear formula entirely and let you do whatever you want whenever you want. Granted proper level scaling would have made things much better here. It didn't come at the cost of story either. In fact the theme of adventure and finding what you value plays into the openness wonderfully. Paldea's worldbuilding is fantastic, and I cared more about Arven's dog than any of the world ending legendary nonsense of the earlier games. The final battle against the AI professor in Area Zero is a highlight of the series. Terastelization is probably the most balanced generational gimmick, since it's equally available to everyone, and you can only do it once before recharging. There still isn't a complete natdex, but the Pokemon's models are actually really well textured, and the animations have soul again. Looking at you, Blastoise's hydro pump and Typhlosion's neck flame. Overall, it's like they had an incredibly delicious recipe to cook, but were forced to pull it out of the oven way too early. #3: Red/Blue. Let's face it. These are the main reason to buy a Gameboy. The hard part here is knowing what to write, since they've already been discussed so thoroughly. It's a story of childhood rivalry and adventure. You start as a kid heading out alone into the world, bonding with these colorful critters, always one step behind Butts, but you progress as a team until you're the best there ever was. Legendaries aren't part of some over dramatic story, but powerful beasts to reward you for exploration. They're glitchy games, but in the best way possible. Being able to break reality if you choose to spawn hundreds of items, or skip story segments, or spawn whatever Pokemon you like makes them an even better experience than their technically superior remakes. Of course that N64 Stadium compatibility gave them a heck of a final challenge if you were hard core enough for it. #2: Diamond/Pearl: I remember when these games were first advertised one of my friends looked at me and said 'Pokemon is trying to resurrect.' I'd say they did a pretty solid job (granted Platinum's excellence might be influencing my opinion here). The story isn't worth talking about, but I think this was when they finally perfected the battle formula. The physical/special split was the last really major change, and not much aside from the fairy type has changed since. Also significantly, this was when they finally added wifi. You no longer needed friends in the same room, because you could trade, battle, and watch other peoples' battles across the planet. There's also plenty of side content to do here, with the Underground being one of my favorite features to date. The Poketch made excellent use out of that bottom screen, featuring the best version of the item finder. I also think this is the generation where they finally became generous with movepools and almost all species had appropriate options available. #1: Gold/Silver. I absolutely stand by the claim that these are the Super Metroid or Mario 3 of the Pokemon franchise. They took what worked with Gen 1, ironed out all of the kinks, and went absolutely ham with innovation to the point where it could barely fit the cartridge. The story and themes were about the old and new, letting you straight up revisit areas and characters of the first game while fully embracing the passage of time. The games are true sequels and make full use of that fact. The day/night cycle and different events based on days of the week make the world feel way more alive than a GBC game has any business being. Your character from the first game being the secret final boss was a surprise well remembered to this day. Steel and dark types were huge contributions, and steel being a newly discovered type was integrated into the lore at the time. All of the old mons were basically reinvented with the special split, with a lot of old guys also getting deserved evolutions. New moves are more tactical, so experienced battling isn't just clicking super effective moves all the time. Breeding, shinies, held items, Pokerus, and so much more all originated here. They even had sense to make Ditto breedable with anything, and stick it on the route by the day care. The music always hits its mark, whether it's trying to be chill, adventurous, or intense. The overall difficulty leans toward the easy side, and I see a lot of people run the games down for that. I think they're missing the point. GSC weren't meant to be games you just sit down and push your way through. They're meant to be an experience where you slow down and take the world one step at a time as a day-to-day adventure. Go headbutt trees until you get Heracross, or maybe take on the lucky egg hunt. Pairing up with the old games and using all of your resources to prime your team to take on Stadium 2 in its entirety still feels like the ultimate non pvp battle experience in the franchise.

For real, the glitches and performance issues have been heavily exaggerated by a salty community that likes to hate everything about new Pokémon games. The Pokémon designs are absolutely amazing and some of my new favorites came from this generation, even considering nostalgia for some older ones. I’ve put more hours into this game compared to my playtime of older games combined when playing as a kid. I remember when everyone hated BW and now everyone is overhyping them. I think they’re great, but people are now claiming they’re the absolute best in the series and think that’s kind of funny since they used to be the most hated. Give it 20 years when SV remakes are rumored to be coming out and people will start claiming them to be the best. I feel like this cycle occurs every time we’re expecting remakes and the generation expected to be remade becomes the most beloved and the newest at the time becomes the most hated.

And then I feel you are doing SV a bit dirty while sure there is a number of issues I still feel the openness and the slight increase in replayability help it a bit, but especially i think it is helped by the blueberry cafe having actual challenging battles, which have really been missing since X and Y, as such i think it should at least be placed ahead of SWSH

Lets see...For the best, I'd kind of put it in a tie between three different games. They can kind of shift depending on my mood. Platinum: I spent so many hours doing all that I could and raising so many Pokemon for the Battle Frontier. I do wish it was a bit faster, but I love this game so much. B2W2: Definitely can see why this is considered the best by a lot of people. So much to do, a great Pokedex, overall fun. USUM: Rather underrated in my opinion. I can get some of the story being a bit of a downgrade to the original, at least with Lillie (I actually didn't mind Lusamine in the Ultra games) it expanded the Pokedex well, and actually gave me a bit of a challenge. For the worst: Probably BDSP: Sure, I will appaude it for not bringing back HMs and running faster, but that's honestly it. I've always perferred Platnuim over Diamond and Pearl and everything in BDSP just feels so...lame. And for some runner ups so I can have three for each: XY: Going to be honest, I wasn't the biggest Gen 6 fan. But when I went back to play them recently, I did enjoy ORAS. I didn't enjoy XY that much sadly. Let's Go: I don't really hate this game if I'm being honest, it was a fun little relaxing time to play it, but I don't see myself going back for another playthrough again. I have nothing against these games I hate and if you guys like them, that's fine. I can see some charm for them.

@@clarkX100 exactly. like for instance i remember nearly the entire community HATED gen 5 when it was newer and all of a sudden now it's everybody's favorite (its mine too, but like, my ass was getting shit on for it years ago!). the newest games always get the most backlash, and then a few more years down the line everyone goes crazy for them. i've played every entry multiple times (except usum, never got around to getting a copy but from what i've seen it doesn't look bad) and honest to god i had so much more fun on my scarlet playthough than probably every time i've played dpp and gens 6-8 combined. they're not that bad, they're just new.

The map is pretty boring to explore. Same pokemon spawning in a large biome. No subtle differencies in the same biome like in PLA. No interesting hidden spots on the map like in open world Zelda games. Also the lack of level scaling forces linearity on the player (which is ironic for an open world game). The exp share removes the necessity for grinding: three battles/encounters and you're now overleveled. The in-battle dialogue and events are slow-paced compared to BW/XY. No shiny overworld sounds/markers. Most of the shinies introduced are barely distinguishable from the originals, which makes them boring.

I imagine you will never see this message, however, as a 38 year-old that has played from gen 1 onwards, the importance of the 'feeling' that gen 1 created in a player can never be overstated. Red and Blue are 'S' tier games in my opinion, and the best games that followed are the ones that recaptured that feeling.

Was with you for like 75%, but that last quarter? Phew, I got some disagreements. I feel like judging Scarlet and Violet for its lost potential is a bit unfair if you aren't also gonna do that for BDSP. When you put those next to every other remake it's the epitome of lost potential in the franchise. I also would have rather Sword and Shield gotten judged a bit more harshly given that the positives of the DLC like the Dynamax Adventures and Crown Tundra would mean you're spending $90 on the game. I'd also disagree with the SM/USUM ranking. Lusamine was an unabashedly vile woman, with her denying Lillie as her daughter being one of my favorite moments in the series. Seeing Lillie still push past the abuse to become her own person and stop her mother was such a thrill to watch. I'd argue the art direction of Sun and Moon is one of the best, second only to the Let's Go games. And then for USUM I'd rank it as worse because it came out directly after Sun and Moon, nerfed Lusamine as a villain, and was completely unecessarily split into 2 games to squeeze out some more money.

Red and blue were great because the pokemon looked like organic creatures, not characters. What gen 1 did right that something like black and white didnt do was giving you options on where to explore. Black and white is shaped like a line if you stretch out the curves of the road like a string. Red and blue starts off linear, but then branches out as soon as you get your water badge. Heck, I didnt even know about the SS anne for so long!

Spoiler warning, this comment is being made around the end of the video. You stopped mentioning pros in let’s go like overworld Pokémon, and overworld shiny Pokémon, and Pokémon Legends Arceus being an open zone (not exactly world) game with improved movement mechanics, exploration and it being the 1st/sole mainline Pokémon game where you can actually complete the Pokédex within the game itself.
@marcosdheleno6 ай бұрын
let's go is also a bore with the catch mechanic. i would even argue that the fact you need to grind by catching multiples feel very off, as it pretty much kills the individuality of your team, when you got 100+ of that one pokemon. it makes "gotta catch em all" into a joke. its not 100% bad, as it has, hands down, the best pokemon outside the pokeball experience, specially compared to the newer games, somehow. its also something i really dont like in arceus.

I think the big issue with gen 2 is that most Pokémon fans now aren’t old enough to have actually played those games (myself included), and so people just look at the list of new Pokémon added that generation which frankly sucks, and trash it, but still love the remakes because the gen 2 game design was genuinely very good

And then there’s people like me who genuinely consider Sword and Shield to be S-tier games. The Gym Challenge experience carries a lot of that for me because it felt like what Gyms should have always been. As in this big competition and tournament brackets. If Alpha Sapphire, Omega Ruby, Heart Gold and Soul Silver could combine into one game with three campaign mode, including Kanto, that would be the ultimate game for me. Picking where to start, you could have the Hoenn experience. You could choose to go through the whole Johto experience with Kanto slapped on the end to solidify your team before Red. An option I would like to see would be starting in Kanto, then going through a buffed Johto before fighting Red (or a re-imagined Gold)

Ouch, I dont know about Ultra Sun/Moon being so low. Especially compared to Lets Go series. USM had the ultra beast, a unique approach to the gym system, an incredible region with a great culture aesthetic, the manta surfing mini game, the HM use for ride Pokémon was cool, it introduced regional forms like Alolan Vulpix which is REALLY cool, a good post game with the team Rocket axis of evil style time travel, the warp dimension of being able to capture old legendries, the island system of Barry farms and training courses to raise EVs while you were not playing, The SOS mechanic for chaining good IVs and Shiny hunting at the same time. There is a lot of good there. Yea a lot of cut scenes and its linier, but once everything is open there is a lot of fun to be had. But Lets Go! was a big disappointment. It had no abilities, no held items, and I hated the catching mechanic. It doesn't even have pro controller support which I will hold against it as it didnt utilize the whole Switch systems capabilities. The chain mechanic was a slog compared to the SOS system. No game corner and no safari zone either. The could have added something new like the GO park without removing an iconic location from the original game, and since I do not play Pokémon Go it was a bummer. And it was made easier. So overall I feel like its less of a package that the original Red and Blue.
@marcosdheleno6 ай бұрын
pretty much how i felt as well. hated the let's go games. only thing it did right was look the best on the switch(which is less merit of it, and more a detriment of the games that in that console) and the pokemon outside the pokeball being the best done in the entire franchise. everything else was complete trash for me.

Gen 2 was always overrated, the internet is just now catching up to that fact. Gen 3 was better by a mile from the initial release and emerald has aged even better making the divide even larger. Also, putting emerald on the same tier as ruby and sapphire is nonsense, it's at minimum 1 tier higher

@@snintendog The lack of a run button *alone* makes the gen 1 and 2 games a slog to replay (unless you have speed up on emulation, or a romhack that adds the feature). I agree on the BDSP and SwSh front, though I disagree on SV performance. I've actually recently found out that it plays infinitely better in handheld mode, (both through personal experience and anecdotal evidence online) since it caps at 720p (instead of the 1080p default docked mode) It won't make the game look any prettier, but it will have a much more playable framerate. The gameplay (which I value the most) is top-notch in these games, compared to any other game before it, my favorite being the Blueberry Academy double battles Also, I love all of the friends you get in SV, especially during the dlc and epilogue, where you get to see so many interactions between them all, from rivals to gym leaders, and elite four members alike. They all have so much personality that was utterly lacking back in the Gameboy era

@@snintendog You say that, and yet that is the mindset that most people nowadays will be using when going back to those older games. You can't just look at the games as they were when they were released; that's called having nostalgia blinders for a reason. You have to look at the games objectively to see if they are *still* worth playing in the 2020s, because that's when you will be playing them, not in the 1990s. And yes, I have actually gone back to play both gens 1 and 2 with my brother, within the past 3 years, along with gens 3 and 4 (still working through gen 5, juggling between LPA and SV), and the original games just don't hold up. Most level-up learnsets are awful, the move variety is horrendous especially for Bugs, Ghosts, and Dragons, and unavoidable glitches, like the 1/256 miss glitch, badge boost glitch, critical hits based on speed, "smart AI" that spams agility against poison types, special being a singular typing (in gen 1), and the level curve being awful (in gen 2), psychics being overpowered, effects like Sleep and Wrap being overpowered; the list goes on and on. They just aren't that good anymore, when there are much better versions of those games. Even the most simplistic vanilla+ romhacks make the game infinitely more playable than the originals.
