This one was a viewer request. I sort of messed that up because the request was specifically for Pokemon Blue but I did Yellow and realized while editting. Forgive me. While playing through this I realized that Blue will probably be harder with Geodude so I intend to re-run that game in the future.

Another quirk I noticed is most rock Pokemon have shit to just mediocre HP, which negates their good DEF so they generally don't even have that going for them. I think the only rock types with good HP I can think of are the Rhyhorn line, because they are an actual animal with bulk and not just living stone like Geodude and Onix.

Yeah but Ground doesn't resist Normal. Rock Throw's BP was 50 * 1.5 * 0.5 = 37.5 and Tackle's was 35 * 0.5 = 17.5, yet it looked like it was doing 3-4x more damage. Probably some rounding shenanigans.

I think it's a good idea if you stick to the Yellow version (when it comes to RBY challenges). The movesets of most major opponents are definitely better when compared to R/B, even if you sometimes are unable to "select" the right eeveelution for the rival... Your channel and content is great. The only thing that slightly frustrates me is that sometimes you're narrating how a battle (or a certain opponent/Pokemon) went really well or really bad, even though things are yet to happen on screen. It feels like you're giving us a spoiler when the battle is about to begin and you already tell us that you've lost or that you won... Just my two cents, of course. Keep going! EDIT: I've just watched your Jigglypuff run and the way you narrated the final battle against Geovanni in the Veridian Gym was GREAT. Full of suspense and intensity! You really didn't spoil how things were going to end beforehand in that situation! Maybe you could consider that sort of approach whenever possible!

I have this odd feeling that someone wanted this to occur in Blue instead of Yellow. I can't quite put my finger on why.
@Alizudo
@Alizudo 2 жыл бұрын
Some of my favorite parts of these games is how they end up all being so... different! Red/Blue/Yellow all have different Pokémon that can be encountered, and if you're using Yellow you'll have the hardest time completing the 'dex (since you'll need both Red and Blue to do so); however, the moves certain Pokémon learn at certain levels are different in Yellow, and the teams the NPCs have are different. BUT ALSO, Red/Blue/Yellow are completely cross-compatible with Gold/Silver/Crystal, which have EVEN MORE changes to the move pools! You could trade a Machamp from Red to Gold, teach it Thunderpunch, then trade it back to Red. That COMPLETELY changes the game! Add on top of that how hard some Pokémon are to get, and if you have a circle of 6 friends all playing together, you'll get up to some absolutely insane adventures.

It's hard to remember _any_ of the Gen 1 ice types are in fact ice type, aside from Articuno. We didn't get Ice types that looked y'know, _icy_ until Gen 3, again exempting Articuno. And the one Water type that really looks icy before then, Suicune, bafflingly _isn't_ Ice type. Ice is almost as much of an afterthought in the Gen 1 type chart as Dragon.

Rock / Ground types are great early - mid game because there's abundance of normal types. They're just physical walls. Later in the game they're getting worse but still are very useful in many situations. They're like high reward & high weakness types. If you know how to use them properly then they're great asset to the team. Just don't use them for every battle in the game :) PS. They're also good as walls for electric, flying and fire types.

I think any Pokemon is possible, with Caterpie probably being the most difficult run. But still possible? That's my challenge: Beat Pokemon Yellow with ONLY CATERPIE. It'll be a bit of a ... STRUGGLE ... at certain parts of the game. (And I think it's impossible without using items) My next suggestion (if you haven't already done a similar one) would be Gastly in Gen 2! (Gen 1 is probably easy because of Night Shade) EDIT: Rock Throw = 75 power (halved to 37.5) vs. Tackle = 35 (halved to 17.5)...so it's a little bit stronger than double. But maybe some rounding errors? Hmm...

Ah, I too share your dismay at using mega punch after you've gotten body slam. That worse accuracy and damage with no actual effect to make up for that makes mega punch all around worse. Also, rock vs bug/poison is better than ground, because bug resists ground, thus making the damage neutral. Gen 1 text does not give an accurate representation of that. So, even though earthquake and rockslide both get stab and the baseline damage on rockslide is *normally* lower, rockslide's the better move to use. Similarly, rockslide vs water/ice can net better results than earthquake, as was clearly figured out by the time it mattered. Also, ground isn't very effective against grass, so tangela or egg-mon is better handled with body slam. Since ground is neutral vs grass/poison, the others go down to earthquake just fine.

Giovanni's Guard Spec fetish makes me laugh lol. I have no idea why he does that. Great run with a fun but not great Pokemon. Well... he's really strong, but Rock/Ground with low Special and Speed just isn't that good in Kanto.

@ScottsThoughtsPokemon
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon 3 жыл бұрын
Caterpie is impossible in Yellow, doesn't learn anything other than Tackle and String Shot so it can't get past Pokemon Tower. Weedle is theoretically possible but would be brutal as it only learns poison sting and string shot. Not sure it can actually make it through the game though.
