In this challenge I attempt to beat Pokemon Red with only a single Oddish. For this challenge I won't be using any items in battle and I'll not be using any sleep tactics. Think I can do it?
Thanks for stopping by. I've loved Pokemon games my entire life. Unfortunately, I sort of missed the boat and never had many real life friends who loved it as much as I did as a kid. I'm here to share my passion for these games with you! I hope you enjoyed the video. See you in the next one!

I hope this channel can gain more subs / interest too I've seen a few videos and Scott really seems to actually enjoy doing the runs other channels like MDB and Jrose11 they seem to use " gag " jokes or take things too serious I get that they know the games mechanics and could easily finish challenges but honestly I think they do it more to get content out but with Scott I really can see / hear how much he actually enjoys this type of challenge So MDB and Jrose11 don't take it the wrong way

Thanks to that you see the effect of the badge boost. If you do it again in the yellow version, use acid (STAB), mega drain (healing STAB), double-edge (strong normal move) and sword dance. Sword dance will raise your attack (acid and double-edge) but also increase your other stats. I bet that you will win way before level 92.

You really slept hard on the Vileplume line. Sure, in the early gens (1-3) it wasn't that great, but as the generations progressed, Vileplume steadily got better and better. Petal Dance received a buff, going from 70 base power to 120. Vileplume received the Chlorophyll ability, making it twice as fast during the effects of Sunny Day, making it a very good addition to any sun team. It has Sludge Bomb, which later became special, taking advantage of Vileplume's massive 110 special attack stat. It also gets all the powder attacks which, when combined with an accuracy boosting item like Wide Lens, makes it a very reliable status setter. Its defense are also extremely good, especially when compared to other non-starter grass types (90 special defense and 85 physical defense). It can take a hit or two, set up sun, and sweep under the right conditions. That's more than you can ask from any grass type. Vileplume has never been as useful as it is in Sword and Shield. It gains a plethora of other moves that give it many potential roles. It can be a status setter/healer with max evs in HP and the remaining EVs split between defense and special defense. Simply give it Pollen Puff, Moonlight (for its own HP recovery for longevity), Sleep Powder, and Toxic. Give it Black Sludge for its held item for added longevity and you've got a very difficult to take down healer/status setter for double battles. That's just one of the roles it can play. It can also be a sweeper on sun teams like I said above 252 EVs in special attack, 252 in speed, 4 in def and Sunny Day, Solar Beam, Sludge Bomb, and Moonblast (checks dragon types). For this set, I'd give it Life Orb for added power. This set really comes in handy in double battles if you pair it with a teammate with the Drought ability, like Ninetales or Torkoal. If you're doing this set for doubles, replace Sunny Day with another move of your choice, depending on which type you want Vileplume to check. Just keep in mind that, if you're doing doubles, you may want to sacrifice some speed or special attack EVs to put them into HP, since Vileplume will need to withstand more attacks in doubles compared to being a singles sweeper. Almost any pokemon, with some exceptions like Magikarp, Feebas, or Unown, can be viable pokemon.

Great video! I think something that would help (that isn’t resorting to just badge boosting or mimic) is to use Reflect. It would greatly increase your defense and allow you to get through Koga much easier. And for the beginning it would be good to waste poison powder and most of absorb PP on wild battles so when you get to the team rocket and super nerd trainers you can start the battle with a couple of absorbs but then move into using struggle. This can help you through the game but wouldn’t help with Agatha at the end

I have surprisingly strong and fond memories of my little Oddish in Pokémon Red. At the time, what I did is I had my Charmander starter, and I more or less used it all the way through to beat the elite 4. I basically didn't use anything else, and ran my Charizard against the elite 4 wall (with Cut, Flamethrower, Fire Blast and whatever else) until I beat it. Except... For that little short part, where I caught an Oddish, and it helped me get past those annoying Hikers with it's Absorb after Rival 2. And then also, the Oddish being the sole destroyer of Mysti. Everything else - Charmander+, excpet that little Odd-ish hero ^^

The reason the move sets in red and blue are so weird, especially in the E4, is that they have their natural level up moveset with no TMs. Some things like the rivals rhydon/execcutor only have normal moves as a result.

I always like Bellsprout Evo line more (Victreebel is my favorite grass type in Gen 1), but that was mostly because Oddish has horrible speed. I did catch an Oddish North of the bridge and used it to solo Misty. Really good if it has the advantage, but if it is matched up with same type or disadvantage,it is brutal haha. On Let's Go Pikachu, I catch 100 Weedle in Viridian Forest for speed candies. Then boost Oddish's speed and make it the fastest vegetable in the world 🤣

I stumbled on to your channel and enjoy watching what you do. These older playthroughs are fun to watch since you aren't too sure what you're doing yet. Something I noticed during the Sabrina fight. 14:06 Alakazam used Psywave, a 100 percent accuracy move. You won that fight due to a Gen 1 miss. Did the crit count? Probably not but that was a very lucky fight.
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Жыл бұрын
Psywave has 80% accuracy in gens 1-5. In gen 6 it was changed to 100%. It’s truly one of the worst moves in the game. I can’t believe it took them so long to increase its accuracy.
@iantaakalla8180
@iantaakalla8180 10 ай бұрын
I suppose they assumed the chance to hit above the level of a Pokémon was worth the inaccurate move? In any case, Psywave has been phased out in Gen 8 onwards. Good riddance to a useless move. Another “fun fact” is that Psywave is only given to Kanto Pokémon. That’s right, Psywave is a Kanto thing, like Ice types, Rock types, Psychic types, Ghost types implementation, Dragon type implementation, unified Special attack and Special Defense, speed-based crits, 8 turn sleep where waking up wastes your turn, Bind where you can switch but not use a move, the weird synergy between Toxic and Leech Seed, and many more.

First off I was surprised at how hard it was with this Pokémon. Second off this was one of the only solo gen one runs that Lorelei was easy. And on one final note I think depending on the Pokémon should make you choose between yellow or R/B just because I feel the rival is easier as is Lt. Surge. But it is always depressing to see the dragon master spam barrier.

What are your thoughts on giving Oddish the Cut HM? It's not a great answer to Ghosts, but it'd be good against the annoying Poison types. You also get it pretty early in the game. But it'd also suck to be locked into 3 moves... EDIT: And I just noticed you gave him Double-Edge. And TIL/Today I Remembered that Oddish (and probably most Gen 1 Pokemon) can learn Double-Edge.

Oddish with the TM for Bullet Seed is decent enough until he evolves, which is an issue if you don’t plan on evolving it

@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon oh, yeah! That TM in Mt. Moon is for something stupid like Bind or something like that. Well. my statement stands. If you redo the challenge for gen 3, try Bullet Seed on it

You should tackle Gen 1 Chansey. Brock is going to suck but the rest of the game should be a breeze barring any physical Pokemon issues.

Ironicly Vileplume is my Favorite Grass Type with Exeggutor x3 Even in Yellow I choose it over the Bulbasaur xD I never liked the Bulbasaur line to be honest, I only like Squirtle or Charmander

You might have been able to finish at a lower level if you had taught Swords Dance, and set up the BBG and swept. Boring, but reliable in Red and Blue.
