In the 80s, I constructed a windsurfer in one day, rode it in the afternoon. Shaped an EPS blank, then laminated it using 8 lb urethane pour foam, water proofing it with sun cured polyester resin. Used pour foam for the inserts and fin box as well, sugar deck for traction. The 14 lb board, 120 liters worked well, I was able to best local sailors.

I love watching this board develop. I think you should set a budget and stick to it. I think the next step is to reduce the weight. Overall a very nice looking row boat, though. Lol. I would love to win this camera, I love videography and photography and looking to improve. My family are going to have a try at making our own board this same way, fixing a dinged up board and then building a real board from scratch. Between myself, my husband and our home educated autistic kids we have a lot of skills and enthusiasm. We feel this will be fun, educational and once the videos are uploaded it will really show how capable, creative and ordinary autistic kids are. We wanna make a channel and be generally awesome. Like yourself really. Thanks for all the awesome videos, Gina.

Next time thinner marine plywood and more stringers made of marine plywood - with big round holes, in the stringers, to reduce weight. Then cover the shell with a layer of woven glass fibre, which is glued on with epoxy. When dry, sand the outer and the varnish with several layers of two component marine varnish.

Very promising project! Congrats! Go on with that approach and please keep us all in the loop. And when it´s ready to market as an open source project the whole windsurf and foil community will participate and benefit from that - in small local DIY projects, but especially in the laboratories of big manufacturers which would be under pressure to adapt and come out with positive results. Aloha!

Next time, Nico, use some sort of water friendly glue between the joints of the board so that the board is even more waterproof and also so that the loads are distributed even more.

Those details about making your own Windsurfer were good and well described, and although I ran my own Windsurfing school and had intended to begin producing my own boards I would have designed them and then given a Plastic Thermoformer the contract to blow mould the cases, and then inject and fill them with a foam boyency volume suitable for the hull case size and style.

You encourage us to build board DIY. This is great. In Indonesia, getting a windsurfer is very difficult because of the high price, and the transport cost to get it sent here. And Windsurf board is the most expensive and too large for transport. If we can make it our own, it will be much possible to popularize this sport in Indonesia. We should be able... thanks for the inspiring video...

That was fun to watch. Much better results than the last plywood iteration. Way to go.
@profiskipinternational44022 ай бұрын
thats why plywood was invented, its built by layers which are "watersealing against each layer". If you want be very safe, use so called "marine plywood". It is used in boat building. And for the size of such a surfboat, its not a big investment. It exists in all kind of thicknesses, and as marine plywood also is used for building cabins on boats, it has a nice surface which shines through a clear varnish, e.g. mahagoni marine plywood is most common. - For varnishing in boat building we have specific materials, e.g. most typical is one component hardwood oil (here Epifanes is one of the market leaders). It just needs a good preparation (in total with 7 layers), it has also a UV filter to protect from detoriation. - Still your raffle going for the 360-camera ? Seems a good quality. Would like to take my chance :-) Living on a 63 year old wooden two master in Netherlands :-) Have good memories when sailed in the Kieler Bucht and Danish South Sea. :-) Keep going your video productions. Seems you have lots of fun.
