Now that you've made the samples, what would you set as a price point if someone ordered 50 or 100 or more of any of these favors? I would assume just the handmade flowers alone would increase the price a lot compared to what the other bakeries charged.
@jethro44532 жыл бұрын
@Bec true, they did, but I just kinda wonder how much more it would have been if she specified these types of decorations.
@matthewbaas31972 жыл бұрын
I agree. I think a cost per item should've been included in the video. She often criticises about not getting hand-made sugar paste flowers, but doesn't consider the time and cost for them to be made. Whilst there was an unlimited budget, it wouldn't look great i the bill came in at $50 per wedding favour!
@ELoveHo2 жыл бұрын
I don't think the problem w/ the ordered ones were only on the flowers. The falvours she used were also a lot more innovative and elevated than those sent to her. I agree that the flowers will make the price per item much higher but flavours are more important to me, and also wouldn't drastically increase the time taken or cost.
@matthewbaas31972 жыл бұрын
1. The mood boards didnt account for flavours. Most bakeries will flavour with their top selling flavours. Also you are trusting her judgement of the flavour and she will obviously like her own more. 2. Imagine if the bakery threw out that many donuts! So much wastage to get one that, in my opinion, looked like trash! 3. She needs to be less critical of other bakers when clearly she cannot provide what she is asking for in the time/cost range she is providing.
@baba-bv8xz2 жыл бұрын
@@matthewbaas3197 She said she wanted the flavours to be just as extravagant and sophisticated as the looks. That was one of the few things she specified to them in her brief and they gave her bubblegum flavoured rainbow cake and chocolate peanut butter cake with pieces of reese's? Is that a childs version of extravagant and sophistcated? The flavours were boring and uninspired. While Laurie's flavours were a huge upgrade I would have gone even more interesting like Calamansi, bergamot, wasabi, sesame, florals like hibiscus, violet or elderflower, spices like cardamom or saffron, maybe experiment with chilli or herbs, booze-y flavours. The bakery specialized in doughnuts so theirs would come out in good shape, had Laurie practiced a little more or tried again she would have a more perfect shape. She exceeded their product, and they are the professionals selling their skills.

i think she should realise now how hard the bakeries worked when making the wedding favours and how long it would have taken. Not only that, but they're also juggling other creations that other clients have asked for, not JUST laurie's request. Whereas, Laurie only has this to make and is already struggling. Honestly she owes them an apology for disregarding how hard they worked and for criticising them so easily.

I am truly hoping that you will get back to what made people fall in love with your channel. I feel you’ve lost your way and unfortunately this video came back to bite you. After critiquing other artists, many people challenged you to do it better and you couldn’t. Not even close. This was probably not the best video to ask what your audience would like to learn from you, especially when you struggled with so many basic techniques, continued to mispronounce macaron, and admitted that you had never before made pastry cream. I love your energy and the banter with Kevin and I loved the early versions of these videos before you started expecting Amaury Guichon-level creations for $400. That level of perfection costs time and time costs money. You of all people should know that….especially after saying so many times in this video how long it took you.
@Cheeseanonioncrisps2 жыл бұрын
I think that asking for wedding favours *specifically* was a bad idea. Like, this series was actually alright when she was just doing cakes. For the most part her criticisms were fair, and especially with the 3D cakes there was also a fair amount of gushing over how impressive they were, which helped balance it out. Plus the cakes themselves were usually genuinely impressive and interesting to look at. But wedding favours? She's asking for a super elaborate version of something that is supposed to be produced in large batches and served to a whole wedding party. Of course there's going to be a limit on how complicated they can be. Hand painting fondant flowers for a single giant cake is different to potentially having to hand paint flowers for 200 mini-cakes. The reason she keeps feeling let down is because she's asking for one thing (small party favours that can be easy to mass produce for an unspecified but potentially large number of wedding guests) but expecting another (by the sounds of it just miniature versions of the big cakes she got last time).

I want to see this again, but like a side by side BLIND comparison. As in - you pay the other bakeries but YOU are making the favors you are envisioning (because you did a GREAT JOB) and then you can see what you did vs. what they do. Because here you were kind of just copying what they had done (except he donuts, you more or less did your own thing) and seeing if you could replicate or make it better based on what you were thinking in the first place. So seeing your vision versus thiers, without you seeing thiers first would be a neat idea. Even if it was a long video. I would watch a 30 minute video of that if I had to.

I enjoyed watching both videos and seeing the process of making them in this one too. I would add that the bakeries have to make money, thus, nowhere near as much time and unusable product can be afforded as in this video, if they wish to make a profit. Thus the homemade ones had gorgeous and delightful flowers that took many, many hours to attain the right shade, roll, cut, feather, press, dry, assemble etc all before they even make it to the favour and look far more polished. A business would need to charge considerably more per favour if it were to be sustainable. These things need to be kept in mind when rating bakeries etc. The flowers were really special though... I'd love to learn more about the colour shades and brands used and flower tutorials.

It’s not really fair since she already knows what the other bakeries made and can top it easily. I would have liked to have seen Laurie do the things she criticized in the previous video better than the bakeries did, like not showing the seam in the middle of the chocolate hearts etc, but in all honesty Laurie had a lot of sloppy outcomes, for someone that’s a detail person and so critical of others work not being perfect, I’m shocked she thought these were ok to show us. I expected Laurie to wow us! Show us perfect favors like she expected the bakeries to produce 🤩 plus of course she’s going to love these fillings since she picked/made them herself. And Laurie, your donut, girl, you know if a bakery would’ve given you that donut you would’ve talked only about how sloppy it looks 😂

She was honest all throughout the video and had herself some of the same criticism you have here. If you don't skip to the end only, you would have known. I think she did great and had her results with a much reduced price, she made them! If I'm paying 100s to a bakery, I will be critical too.

AND she had a great advantage over them since she already saw what they did and how she wanted to improve on them, plus she was the one with the vision herself and would know what she wanted. I don’t understand all the comments saying they love her positivity, I find her incredibly negative and unfair . I watch her videos because I find the cakes she features interesting, but am never a fan of her comments and often feel aggravated

I mean the hearts and cakes were basically the same as the one from the bakery, just a little adjusted. I think would a better way of approaching this video and the criticism would be: - Creating a mood board - Making wedding favors you envisioned and how you'd do them and how you'd like them - Commissioning the bakeries after you made your version
@briannadudley42702 жыл бұрын
I agree, I felt that the favors made here were way too similar to the bakeries. I would like to see her vision first based off of a mood board and then get them commissioned - and then compare.
@OhItsNekoAgain2 жыл бұрын
@@briannadudley4270 It was kind of a headstart because she didn't have to come up with something from scratch. And because the favors in her video where basically the same as in the original one, just kinda showed how much she actually liked them compared to what she said about the favors from the backery.

purely because I can't go off flavours, the bakeries looked like they did a better job (icing, detail, colour matching, technicality)... almost certain that if she recieved her own first cake from a baker she would have torn it to shreds for being "too basic".

So you basically copied their styles? I don't think from the amount of comments that you've received that you misunderstood the assignment, so why did you copy their style? So that means that your better is the same as their bad, which makes no sense at all..

Let's be honest, if a bakery sent Laurie the favours that Laurie made in this video, she would criticise them so bad and say that it's not extravagant enough or up to her standards etc. I MUCH prefer the bakery ones over hers

So this is what I've learned from this: making a mini cake / pastry / party favor is as much work as making a big one but bakers has to charge a fraction of the price. I can see why the bakeries were struggling to make something as elaborate as the brief was without charging 200$ for each mini dessert.

The sizes, flavors, and colors were all way more spot on! I do wish there was a bit more detail in the final assembly -- the flowers were the MOST gorgeous, but there could have been a bit more color/texture on the donut glaze and the mini cakes, because these felt a bit simple compared to the bakeries. Yes, doing it solo is way more work than a bakery team, you rocked this challenge!!

Laurie, I normally love your videos and how wholesome you are but am disappointed in the negative tone of some of your latest videos critiquing other bakers with vague input from you. I don't like writing a negative comment either, but I needed to share that as a long time fan I'm not happy with the direction your channel is taking. This video highlights that you still need to work on your own skills compared to the bakers your heavily criticized in your last video. The world is already such a dark place and your channel was once a great escape to watch something fun and bright but now feels it took a turn to focus more on unfairly judging other baking artists for their hard work despite the nebulous directions from you. I really hope that this tone isn't permanent and the cheerfully spirited content returns to your channel.

And the molded chocolate hearts were just cast incorrectly. Ease up on the criticism, Laurie. You're not who you used to be.

She judged those bakery desserts so much, even though they were gorgeous and the flavours were awesome and to not do a good job making her own pisses me off. The ones she made were mediocre at best. She acted like she would do a better job than the bakeries but she failed horribly. The flavours she put were so basic and she was so upset with the bakery ones even though the bakey ones were way more elaborate than her ones. Very arrogant baker.

Idk if it was so much arrogance, but I do agree that she did not "top them" in terms of details. I also don't love that she essentially made the same things the bakeries did. I will say, yes her sugar flowers topped the chunky ones from a couple of the bakeries, but she could have simply specified that she wanted sugar flowers.
