My experience from the refund perspective was bad. They purposely make this hard. In my opinion, it is simple unused hours = refund = simple policy. Sad that recurring billing isn’t an option but required as part of the membership, and that they tried to squeeze from both tutors and customers.

It's difficult finding good teachers because prices are too low. Even when the teachers ask for "a lot" of money, Preply gets a 30% commission (or minimum for 18%) and trial lessons are not paid. So teachers are not really motivated, I guess that many of them must work a lot in order to make a living out of this job, they are tired, they do not arrive on time, they can't prepare the lessons because they don't have time etc. This is a message I received from a student on Preply "I have tried tutors here before and have had them waste my time and money. Either being unprepared turning up late leaving the lesson to tend to other responsibility's or cutting the lesson short as they have another lesson." So logical... And however, this lady was still looking for cheap tutors. She wrote me as I was asking for USD 15. I am now asking for the double (and this is still low, as I get only USD 20 per hour). What can one expect from people who are so low paid? You must have realistic expectations!

Yeah, it's a tough one. In addition the the imbalance between supply and demand, the 1-to-1 model is just not great for teachers. I think they get burned out quite quickly. One reason being that they are doing a lot of work for mediocre pay, primarily because the number of students willing to pay more is very small. I ran a language learning platform for 5 years, and we had to deal with a lot of these issues.

19 dólares para México si es caro , para alguien que gana el salario mínimo en 1 sola clase gasta aproximadamente el 9% de su sueldo. Si tomarán una clase por semana estarían gastando el 35% de su salario mensual.

Lo entiendo pero en este caso tienes que buscar a profesores que viven en países con el mismo nivel de vida que el tuyo. En el caso contrario, sólo encontrarás a jóvenes sin experiencia, o a personas que apenás pueden vivir con lo que ganan, que trabajan mucho, están cansadas y no tienen tiempo para preparar sus clases. Lo triste es que cuando cobras poco, te das cuenta de que muchos alumnos no son mexicanos en la incapacidad de pagar más. Son "pitucos" de Estados Unidos que te cuentan que viven en una casa con piscina.... Recibí este mensaje de una usuaria de Preply, creo que es interesante ver que estas tarifas bajas no permiten proponer clases de calidad: "I have tried tutors here before and have had them waste my time and money. I want to improve my conversational speaking I made a lot of mistakes when I am speaking also when I am writing, I have never use preply, I try the app for first time next Tuesday, I choose the cheaper option because it's not possible for me pay more, I hope get a great experience with my tutor and whith the app.
