I have a 97 & mine were glued in also along with the clips. Had a hell of a time, had to use heat & a 20 ton press, sounded like a gun shot when they let loose.

That’s not a constant velocity joint. It’s a double Cardon U joint

On the inside yoke with the ball you can push it with your thumb and remove both u joint caps. Than you can only remove just the end u joint to pull the yoke out and change the cv ball. Regardless dex makes awesome videos!!

Yes you can. You can. I was showed that way when I was a kid by my dad. Used hammers,sockets and pieces of wood. That's the only way. I've even done that in the trail in the woods

Been there done that. Seems like it's going to be a super complicated job, But it's honestly a simple task to do.

Exactly how I like to work- sitting Indian style with tools and 2x4 scraps. All but rebuilt a Dana 30 like that a couple months ago lol. Same with all the suspension components on my 94 Formula.

I rebuilt mine on my 04 rubicon. It all just fell apart. Lol. Very bad shape. I use a dremel and a small sanding wheel and clean them up before I put new caps in. 🤷🏻♂️

For pulling the ball, just stick it in a vise, and use a 3/8 extension, shove it into the ball, and pry against the yoke, itll pull the seal and ball together

Any room to put a zurt fitting to re grease that ball piec? Find a different way to keep it lubed some kind of way

2001 Cherokee sport, automatic transmission. I have a knocking noise that sounds like its coming from right under the gear shifter, maybe more towards passenger side. Shifting gears seems to effect it, seems worse in neutral than in drive. Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

That's a lot easier than the method I utilized which involved hitting my thumb with the hammer.

Do you use greasable or non-greasable? Spicer "1310X" is now listed at Rock Auto as DANA 51310X Spicer Life Series (SPL) That other thing is a Universal Joint Ball Kit at Rockauto. Also known as Double Cardan CV Ball Kit. Right now the MOOG 617 Includes Ball, Cup Seal, and Spring kit is $26 on Rockauto vs $62 for the O'Reilly version. I am changing my clutch this week and plan to do this too. Parts are in my Rockauto cart.
@dexjs3 ай бұрын
Non greaseable is just stronger. Greaseable probably last longer. No good advice for the cv ball 😞
@noberet3 ай бұрын
@@dexjs I have greasable on the way, wasn't able to stay up as late as you lol. CV ball was just cheaper and a brand name at Rockauto, but I didn't see any greasable, and ships on same truck as my other parts.

@@dexjs Another question, sorry. Does lining up the Zerks the same orientation on the driveshaft matter, or do they need to be somehow alternated to reduce vibration?
@corywillis334613 күн бұрын
@@dexjsthe cv ball in my 91 XJ has a factory grease zerk that uses the grease needle to fill same as the two u-joints in the cardigan. They are not the easy to grease at all but removing the crossmember does make it easier.
