Great material , I'm almost 70 and bought my own MJ new in 1990. It's got at least 550K on it. I had the motor professionally rebuilt about 13 years ago and converted from the dumb gauge cluster to a tac, oil pressure, water temp, and amp gauge. I didn't swap any sensors but after watching this it looks like I need to swap the oil pressure sending sensor and probably the water temp sensor too. Tac works off the cable driven speedo cable fine, temp gauge seems fine, and the amp gauge seems fine too. Been that way for over a decade. Oh and of course you have to make sure the gauge cluster is for a speedo driven cable if it's as old as mine is. Also mine was an automatic so you want the window in the gauge cluster to see the selector. A tip I might share has to do with those headliners. Remover the entire headliner. Take off the fabric down to the insulation. Lay the formed fiberglass headliner on a table with the top (roof side facing down). Only work small portions till you're comfortable with the process. Apply a base coat of slightly diluted glue with a brush to the formed headliner. Then using water soaked paper, which is randomly torn to odd shapes, and liberally coated with a water based & water resistant glue on both sides ( weldwood or elmers), apply the randomly torn scraps of glue coated paper directly over a base coat of glue. Only do small portions at a time and use a brush for the base coat of glue. Don't crush the fiberglass formed headliner. Just work the paper flat to it. You're going to need a couple gallons of water based wood glue for a Cherokee's headliner. I used a about 3/4th of a gallon on my MJ headliner. Any missing chunks of headliner can be molded with some crushed fiberglass insulation to fill in. Often these headliners are missing corners so you might need to do that or just build it up with paper and glue. This process is very similar to doing Papier-mâché. All of this is done using the same glue which you've brushed over the fiberglass formed headliner. No epoxy or anything else. Just good water based wood glue. Use a diluted but relatively thick base of coat of glue to assure first layers of paper stick to the headliner. Don't worry about drying. This process is going to take a couple days because you're going to get bored after a couple hours so just work in sections. Don't try to do the the whole thing at one time. Only do an small area so that the base coat glue isn't drying out before you get a layer of paper over it. Go slow and take your time. A table with a some warm water to dip the paper in and something flat to put the paper on to smear glue over it. This will at first seem like the paper hasn't got a lot of glue in it but it will have. Do a small area and let it dry and that will begin to give you a sense of how much glue you need to smear on the water soaked paper. This is a little artsy fartsy crafts project like task so just resign yourself to it. Spread your glue on scraps of water soaked paper and do that on both sides. Using rubber gloves and just smearing it all over by hand on a table is easiest, then apply the scraps of glue covered paper to the fiberbased headliner. The glue is diluted by the water and that's fine. You will see it bonds strongly enough. My headliner was molded/formed fiberglass which is quite flimsy once you strip the original covering away. You can use scrap paper from the junk bins from the post office or buy craft paper which I used for the final covering. Just keep applying layers as you go making sure it's bonding to the original fiberglass shaped headliner. This takes some time to do but believe me it's worth it. Cover the entire side and as you go along it will begin to harden up and retain it's shape. Cary the covering process on around the edges and around to what will be the roof portion. This gives it more strength. Typically about 3 layers will be strong enough. This will make a stiff and durable headliner that will last as long as you will. I've had mine in for at least 8 years and all I've had to do is occassionally reapply a small patch whenever a tear appears from stretching due to shrinkages over time. Mine is done in torn bits of brown craft paper so it looks like the headliner is covered in stitched patches of leather. I have an MJ and XJ and so now I have to do this to my XJ's headliner, which I expect will take a while to finish but once done you're never going to have cloth falling on your head. Also I tore the cloth off the sunvisors and replaced the matting with carboard which I bonded over the metal strips with the same glue and then covered those the same way. Bullet proof and been a sensational hit. Give it a try.

One of the best headliner replacements I ever did was in one of those square bodied Cherokee, got a piece of 1/8" wood grain paneling,(like you see in an old mobile home) bowed it like a playing card and stuffed it into the top, (had to remove dome light, do a little trimming, etc.) Left the original in place, Let it rest right on the trim, Turned out great.

Hey Dex! There is a procedure to test the instrument cluster! I can’t exactly remember you will have to look it up on your own but i have tried it when I replaced mine months ago, it will test all gauges and lights , cycle through everything, but also worth mentioning is the fact that the vin number will no longer match, certian parts, which include trans control module, instrument cluster, the computer and a few other things, thats not to say these parts aren’t interchangeable because they are! But sometimes if you do not have these reprogrammed, and vinned to the car, you may have trouble getting it inspected and the computer may give inaccurate information and act up, and yes your mileage will change, so that’s another reason for a reprogram

Ive had problems with aftermarket temp sensors the one for the gauge they don't work right but i was able to find some oem new and i have some in my stash. In fact i try really hard to use oem sensors on everything nowadays. It can be a bit difficult finding new OEM sensors especially the crank position sensor for the 91-92 with the different plug. Ive had nearly every year of xj ive had a bunch except the real early ones but for whatever reason 92 seems to be my favorite i like playing with those i have parts from other years i like to use like little detail things but we seem to like 92s i do really like the obd1 system and playing with things. Ive had a couple different oil pressure sensors on my 92, when i rebuilt the harness i went with the one i believe it should have had thats the one with the plastic plug like in this video but when i got the jeep it had the earlier style large metal sensor with the blade style terminal it had an obvious non original flat blade plug crimped on, both types worked. Ive also seen larger and smaller of the plastic style oil sensor and if i remember correctly they both work for the pressure gauge. Ive actually had problems over the years with those plastic ones leaking into the plug i had to put used OEM ones on mine and my wifes xj to stop the leaks.

I had mine fail after 30 years and it's a bugger to get at but there's not much to it. The only thing you want to be positively sure about is making sure the cable from the Crank Sensor isn't going to contact the exhaust manifold. It will melt and ground it out and the truck will die. Mine did that but as soon as I pulled it free it ran perfectly fine and so I ended up just duct taping it to the firewall to insure it wouldn't fall down on the manifold again.

Reminds me of my 86 Buick Regal Factory V8 sport coupe factory idiot light vehicle except for the gas guage and speedometer and you find me a Oldsmobile and Buick motor that doesn't run hot?! No battery volts, oil pressure, water temp, oil and choke light and water temp running hot light otherwise known as service engine soon and if that idiot light comes on its already too late
