Have you ever booted up the old sims 2 game and tried playing in the broke family? It’s quite hard! I’m starting a short series where I try to get Brandi Broke out of poverty! Is it possible? We will have to see!

The Brokes are a hard family at first but once you’re used to the game they’re actually pretty easy to keep happy. The first thing to do when loading them up is to teach Beau a toddler skill (can’t remember if it’s walking or talking) because he’s already made a lot of progress in it and finishing it off quickly gives aspiration points to both him and Brandi. As for Dustin, it’s key to lock in his want for kissing Angela so he doesn’t re-roll when he gets home from school. When he gets off the bus the first day, he will always bring Angela home with him, and having his first kiss should really help out his aspiration meter. Hope this helps anyone who might be new to the game.

I remember playing this family briefly decades ago when I had the game. In my playthrough, Dustin was just the best. It was so hard to keep him happy, but he was the first one to take care of the babies and was constantly trying to teach the toddlers skills. Often I would have to make him stop because he wouldn't take care of his needs to take care of the kids. I remember Brandi not wanting to change diapers and constantly trying to go to bed. So Dustin would just do that all by himself (autonomously). I did all I could to make him happy, gave him his first kiss with his sweetheart, etc. The part that really got me was that since I had Brandi working, Dustin would be home with the baby when Beau came home with his first A+. Since Dustin had taught Beau how to study and had had the most interactions with him, Beau ran to Dustin to celebrate and Dustin cheered him on! It was so sweet and so sad because their mom wasn't there for them, but for some reason she was always kind of aloof towards the kids anyway. Once Dustin was close to growing up, I stopped playing the Brokes. I just couldn't see Dustin grow up. I don't understand why Maxis always tries to make him into a bad guy since he grew up rough. In my experience he was always so sweet and caring towards his brothers and mom. He just had it rough growing up but he was good inside. In my heart Dustin Broke will always be a sweet and caring misunderstood soul that deserves better.

Funny you should say that, because last year I downloaded TS2 again specifically so I could play with this family and seeing Dustin grown up ruined me 😂 If you have the University expansion there's this sequence where he turns into a young adult and Brandi drops him at campus and I was like "ooh, this is so not it" the whole time. He had a dumb ass haircut and was wearing a tracksuit.

*as in "rainbow" or "bow and arrow" not the verb pronunciation of "bow" or as in ship's bow. Tbf -eau is an "oo" sound in "beautiful" Spellings and pronunciations are hardly consistent in English. I always mispronounce words because of this lol

This family is one of my favourites. They start off so rough, with the loss of Brandi's husband, Dustin being a criminal, and of course her third son being on the way was totally unexpected. But I love how its totally possible for the family to turn their lives around, succeed, and become both financially secure and loving towards each other. Great to see everything going well so far.

Memories are one of the things I miss the most! So great for story lines & lore. I also had the multi-functional painting downloaded (name of the creator just went out of my head, he made tons of great hacked objects). I used it to boost skills and relationships, etc. Always cheated points to get the babies "smart milk" & adults that aging down cooler contraption.

The pool didn't build Dustins skill because in the sims 2 you aren't allowed to build skills on public lots for some reason... there is a mod for that though! Love ts2 vids!!! Totally need more of those

I send Dustin to Private school because he is a Fortune sims and want's the good life. I don't see him being a long time criminal. He's just a child of circumstance like Lilith and Dirk. Either their parent died or they were neglected and treated bad. You were struggling really bad here too. For anyone else, rearrange everything in the home or at least mom and Dustin's room, put the crib in mom's room until the baby comes and Beau grows up, add a bed to Dustin's room for Beau.

Wow, i also named her third baby Toby every time I played her! A long time ago, maybe 15 years, I was playing the Broke family and when the third baby was born, I turned to my younger brother (about 5years old) and asked what should we name the baby. He said Toby. So, it absolutely blew my mind that you picked that name!

Sometimes simmers have sold the pinball machine, Brandy's double bed, and her painting for some extra cash. At least that what the wiki or some guide i read about the sims 2 (Used to play it for a bit)

My best case scenario was Beau grow practicing ballet and getting a dream of becoming the dancer. Also Brandy and Dustin were into the hobby of repairing junk cars in free time - this way they earned for boys to go to university. And they went there as 5. Lilith, Angela, Beau, Hans Dreamer and Dustin. Lilith got engaged to Hans, Angela to Dustin. But after they finished it Beau made a move on Lilith since he had same likes as his brother. And Lilith cheated on Hans with Beau and got pregnant. When baby was born Hans just knew it is not his. Hope my fav scenario shook your entertainment a little.

This is my favorite family. I always play them when I play sims 2. I usually end up deleting the pinball machine, getting a games console bc it's more fun, making Dustin & Beau share a room, I make the kitchen way smaller to save money from the foundation and walls that I delete. I delete any landscaping too and delete the wardrobe so I can make brandi's bedroom way smaller or split her bedroom in half to make it into another room for the last baby. I always immediently start teaching Beau to walk bc I find that's the easiest to complete fast & I don't even try to teach him to potty train bc it's impossible. Even if you just teach him to walk or talk he grows up well. I also either build a wall separating Beau's crib from the livingrpom and kitchen so he won't be woken up, or I move his crib into brandi's bedroom once I delete the wardrobe. Also, sometimes I will have the youngest baby sleep in brandies bed too to save money if I don't have enough. It's always a kind of a mad dash at the beginning. I pause it often so I can line up tasks & Idont idle about going nothing or there just isn't enough time to get everything done. This is just the way I play so I love seeing others methods

Lock their wants and get aspiration points perks! The ones for needs are very useful. Also, changing the bathtub for a shower, or adding a shower, will be worth it. I always sell their counters and some of their paintings.

So I love playing Brandi in what I call "Brandi Broke's Groundhog Day." I play her until 5:59pm then exit and save. Evict her and buy the trailer back, repeat. Pregnancy progresses but she, Dustin, and Beau don't age. It gives Beau a real opportunity to finish his toddler years. Dustin can get his grades up, and Brandi doesn't have to work. Every day she gets the wants for shower, fridge and toilet plus other things so that's enough to keep her going.

@@VioletKitty411 Some would consider not playing the game through as cheating. You kicking them out and buying it back so they don't age and get the easy wants, is cheating, since you don't play the game with the game mechanics. Nothing wrong with it, but saying you don't cheat is not correct. It just seems like a ridiculous amount of effort for something you can achieve with a simple cheat input. But for some reason it makes you feel better that you don't "cheat".

@@plumdutchess well anyone that would consider that a cheat does not understand that there is a difference between workaround and cheat. Cheat requires that one press control + shift + C, open the cheat window, type in a cheat, press enter and then proceed to cheat. My work around requires none of that. Semantics: small but important.

First thing I always do is sell all her bedroom items, delete the pool and the pinball machine coz they are all expensive. That gives a nice chunk of change. I put Brandi is Dustin’s room and move the kids on her room coz it’s bigger.

The Broke family has so much nostalgia for me. It wad the first household I ever played. I was 10 and had no idea what I was doing, and unfortunately got beau taken away from me by the social worker. I didnt realize Brandi was pregnant until she gave birth and my jaw hit the floor.

I always have Beau learn to walk first, he learns the skill in a snap (and before I cheated) I would give him smart milk to earn his skills. He’d also work on his creative skill as a toddler then when he grows up he can paint for cash, more recently I’d also throw him a good party to add some toughness to the game. Dustin I try to get him to become an overachiever, yes in the criminal career. I cheat with the third kids skills and Brandi sometimes gets a job in her field sometimes stays home all day.

Sims can earn body skill through swimming, but in the Sims 2 sims can't build up skills in community lots. Unless you have a mod that fixes that

I’m confused. Did you not get the scripted event? The first thing the game prompts you to do is teach Beau (pronounced B-oh but Boo did make me LOL!) to walk. He’s very close to being able to walk and it fulfils a want for Brandi and Beau straight away!
